A Study on Ocean Cultural Space developed on the Jejudo Manned Lighthouse (제주도 유인등대를 활용한 해양문화공간에 관한 연구)

  • The year 2003 is the centennial of the birth of the modern lighthouse in Korea. The lighthouse was originally surrounded by a beautiful nature and it contains the romantic sensitivity which relates with the ocean. And in some case it is a environment-friendly architectural facility which uses a alternative energy like a solar cell. Now the properly developed manned lighthouse is not only functioning as a traditional aids to navigation for the vessel, but also it becomes the new facility and space for all civilians who might visit and experience. Jeju regional maritime affairs & fisheries office has developed the manned lighthouses properly to ocean cultural space for the past several years. As a result of that, the recognition regarded on ocean culture was raised and the regional tourism was vitalized. For this situation we intended to reveal in this study that all the issues which relate to the proper use of the manned lighthouse in the Jejudo, since the project of water-familiar space started by MOMAF.

An approach to computerized preliminary design procedure of mid-size superyachts from hull modeling to interior space arrangement

  • A concept of preliminary design for mid-size superyachts is explored. First, the profile of a superyacht is interactively designed with the help of freeform curve functionality and graphical user interface (GUI) based interaction. The hull form is then constructed using major characteristic curves such as design waterline, deck sideline, and sections in addition to the predefined profile curve. After exterior hull modeling is done, the arrangement of significant interior spaces of all decks is carried out. A genetic algorithm is exploited to find a space arrangement by considering space fitness values, space proximity, and stairs connectivity of relevant spaces. A goal of the paper is to offer a step-by-step procedure for superyacht design from scratch or when initial information is not sufficient for complete design. For this purpose, a GUI based superyacht design system is developed. This design approach is expected to help users interactively design mid-size superyachts.

  • In any large heavy industry like that of ship building, there exist a lot of complications for the arrangement of building blocks optimally for the minimal space consumption. The major problem arises at yard because of laxity in space for arranging the building blocks of ship under construction. A standardized erection sequence diagram is generally available to provide the prioritised erection sequence. This erection sequence diagram serves as the frame work. In order to make a timely erection of the blocks a post plan has to be developed so that the blocks lie in the nearest possible vicinity of the material handling devices while keeping the priority of erection. Therefore, the blocks are arranged in the pre-erection area. This kind of readiness of blocks leads to a very complex problem of space. This arises due to the least available space leading to an urgent need of an availability of intelligent spatial schedule without compromising the rate of production. There exists two critical problems ahead namely, the spatial occupation layout of pre-erection area and the emptying pattern in the spatial vicinity. The block shape is assumed be rectangular. The related input data's are the dates of erection (earliest as well as the latest), geometrical parameters of block available on pre-erection area, slack time and the like.

A Modulation Transfer Function Compensation for the Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI) Based on the Wiener Filter

  • The modulation transfer function (MTF) is a widely used indicator in assessments of remote-sensing image quality. This MTF method is also used to restore information to a standard value to compensate for image degradation caused by atmospheric or satellite jitter effects. In this study, we evaluated MTF values as an image quality indicator for the Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI). GOCI was launched in 2010 to monitor the ocean and coastal areas of the Korean peninsula. We evaluated in-orbit MTF value based on the GOCI image having a 500-m spatial resolution in the first time. The pulse method was selected to estimate a point spread function (PSF) with an optimal natural target such as a Seamangeum Seawall. Finally, image restoration was performed with a Wiener filter (WF) to calculate the PSF value required for the optimal regularization parameter. After application of the WF to the target image, MTF value is improved 35.06%, and the compensated image shows more sharpness comparing with the original image.

Comparison of LCOE of the Southwest Offshore Wind Farm According to Types and Construction Methods of Supporting Structures (해상풍력 지지구조물 형식 및 시공 방법에 따른 서남해 해상풍력실증단지의 균등화발전비용 비교)

  • In order to understand the economic feasibility of an offshore wind farm, this paper analyzed the differences in LCOE (levelized cost of energy) according to the support type and construction method of the substructure in terms of LCOE and sensitivity analysis was conducted according to the main components of LCOE. As for the site to be studied, the Southwest Offshore Wind Farm was selected, and the capital expenditures were calculated according to the size of the offshore wind farm and the installation unit. As a result of the sensitivity analysis, major components showed high sensitivity to availability, turbine related cost, weighted average cost of capital and balance of system related cost. Moreover, the post-piling jacket method, which was representatively applied to the substructure of the offshore wind farm in Korea, was selected as a basic plan to calculate the capital expenditures, and then the capital expenditures of the pre-piling jacket method and the tripod method were calculated and compared. As a result of analyzing the LCOE, it was confirmed that the pre-piling jacket method of the supporting structure lowers the LCOE and improves economic feasibility as the installation number of turbines increases.

  • COMS(Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite) has multiple payloads; Meteorological Image(MI), Ocean Color Imager(GOCI) and Ka-band communication payloads. MI has 4 IR and 1 visible channel. In order to improve the quality of IR image, two calibration sources are used; black body image and cold space look data. In case of COMS, the space look is performed at 10.4 degree away from the nadir in east/west direction. During space look, SUN or moon intrusions are strictly forbidden, because it would degrade the quality of collected IR channel calibration data. Therefore we shall pay attention to select space look side depending on SUN and moon location. This paper proposes and discusses a simple and complete space look side selection logic based on SUN and moon intrusion event file. Computer simulation has been performed to analyze the performance of the proposed algorithm in term of east/west angular distance between space look position and hazardous intrusion sources; SUN and moon.

Behaviour of Space Truss Erected by Post-tensioning (포스트텐션에 의해 시공된 공간 트러스의 거동)

  • This paper suggests that post-tensioned and dome-shaped space truss formed by post-tersionong is easy to fabricate in construction process. In particular, a laboratory model is used to show how a flat space truss system can be transformed into a dome-shaped space truss by means of post-tensioning. There are some diserpancy in vertical displacement of the dxperiment and theoretical analysis for space truss. Nonlinear analysis is used to predict the final shape shape of the space truss, the experiments tndicates that this construction method can offer economy over traditional methods. In addition, the analysis indicates that when all the sxisting mechanisms are controlled, the nonlinear finite element method is more reliable way to predict the shape of the dome-shaped space truss than the linear analysis.
