Purpose: This study was conducted to compare the characteristics of organizational structure and occupational satisfaction among nurses in general hospital and small to medium-sized hospital and to investigate the affecting factors on their occupational satisfaction. Methods: The study was based on the cross-sectional descriptive survey. A self-report questionnaire was used to collect data from 343 nurses between June and July, 2010. Data were analyzed by ${\chi}^2$-test, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression using the SPSS/WIN 14.0 program. Results: Hierarchical structure was dominant in general hospital whereas relationship was highly valued in small to medium-sized hospital. Occupational satisfaction was positively correlated with work environment built on relationship, innovation and tasks. Factors significantly influencing on occupational satisfaction in general hospital included innovative work environment, nurses' income and their health status ($R^2$=40.3%). For the small to medium-sized hospital, they included innovative work environment, satisfaction in life, tasks and professionalism ($R^2$=40.4%). Conclusion: Organizational structure, especially innovative work environment and relationship-oriented attitude had a significant influence on nurses' occupational satisfaction. Therefore, nursing administrators have to develop and consider organizational structure to improve occupational satisfaction.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify knowledge structure of the Korean Journal of Occupational Health Nursing from 1991 to 2014. The structural change of occupational composition with the coming of post-industrial society is most evidently observed in the developed country. Specially representative of social changes is the emergence of new occupational sectors, such as the so-called quaternary and quinary sectors, which are based on the use of information technology and managerial skills. The paper raises the question of how and in what this chage of occupational components in a mtro area affects the existing residential structure over the period. In order to extend the discussion of the question, the related hypothetical statements on urban spatial impact due to transformation of the society have xtnsively considered and identified a possible multicenter structure concentration and deconcentration of new jobs and population over the metro area. For further examination, the renowned high tech city of Minneaplis -St. Paul has been selected and the occupational labour forces data for 1960 and 1980 analyzed. As a whole, this area has experienced a dispersal and reconcentration of population in new patterns which have resulted from changes in the occupational structure. In particular, the residential area of white-coller workers(the quaternary / quinary or information workers) has expanded into the city from a suburban core area. In this process, a large proportion of the manual-worker's residential areas in the central city either disappeared or diminished. Consequently, other isolated centers created by the manualworker residents are emerging in both the central city and suburbs. Thus, the development of mulitple centers or cores based on the distribution of occupational characteristics can be considered as a typical ongoing pattern of metro areas in the Unite States.

The statistics of occupational injuries and illnesses is one of the most important indicators of worker's safety and health in the field of occupational safety and health. The conventional statistics was produced without consideration of gender difference. This study was planned to investigate the difference of occupational injuries and illnesses by gender because that recently female workers was increased through the change of industrial structure such as from manufacturing dominated to service dominated structure. Statistics of occupational injuries and illnesses collected by workmen's compensation insurance system that have no information about gender composition of population. Economically active population survey was used to calculated the rate of occupational injuries and illnesses by gender. The distribution of estimated rate of occupational injuries and illnesses by industry, occupation and the type of accident were different between male and female employees, but those by the size of enterprise, age of the injured, the duration of the first recuperation, and job tenure were similar between male and female employees. This study has shown that gender sensitive approach may be applied to policy of occupational safety and health because that gender neutral perspective may not discover the fact of gender specific problems.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify visiting nurses' occupational satisfaction and their stress who are working at district health centers in Chungnam province. Methods: The subjects of the study were 109 visiting nurses of 16 district health centers in Chungnam province. The data were collected by self report questionnaires from March 1 to 31, 2010. The data were analyzed by Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, t-test, ANOVA (Sheffe's test), and correlation coefficient using the SPSS program. Results: The results of this study were as follows. The occupational stress level of the subjects was 46.7 and the level of subjects' occupational satisfaction was 2.46. There was a significant negative correlation between occupational satisfaction and occupational stress (r=-.627). Conclusion: The occupational stress level of the subjects, and stress levels of 'work environment', 'job insecurity' and 'organizational structure' were higher than those of the Korean women workers' standard. The level of subjects' occupational satisfaction was lower than that of the nurse practitioners. There was a significant correlation among occupational stress and 'burden of workload' and 'visiting nurse career'. The study showed that occupational stress was correlated with occupational satisfaction. The results suggest that further follow-up study on visiting nurse is necessary to relieve their occupational stress and increase occupational satisfaction.
Background: The vulnerability of international migrant workers is on the rise, affecting the frequency of occupational accidents at workplaces worldwide. If migrant workers are managed in the same way as native workers, the consequences on safety assurance and risk management will be significant. This study aimed to develop the vulnerability factor model for migrant workers in seafood processing industries because of significant risk-laden labor of Thailand, which could be a solution to control the risk effectively. Methods: A total of 569 migrant workers were surveyed (432 Burmese and 137 Cambodian), beginning with 40 initial vulnerability factors identified in the questionnaire established from experts. The data were analyzed through descriptive analysis; exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were used to ascertain the model. Results: The result of content validity >0.67 and the Cronbach's alpha of 0.957 specified the high reliability of 40 factors. The EFA indicated a total variance of 65.49%. The final CFA validated the model and had an empirical fitting; chi-square = 85.34, Adjust Goodness-of-Fit Index = 0.96, and root mean square error of approximation = 0.016. The structure concluded with three dimensions and 18 factors. Dimension 1 of the structure, "multicultural safety operation," contained 12 factors; Dimension 2, "wellbeing," contained four factors; and Dimension 3, "communication technology," contained two factors. Conclusion: The vulnerability factor structure developed in this study included three dimensions and 18 factors that were significantly empirical. The knowledge enhanced safety management in the context of vulnerability factor structure for migrant workers at the workplace.
Purpose: Regarding workers' health promotion and disease prevention, the law on the health management system has been enacted and implemented since 1961. However, regulations related to health managers do not meet recent demands for changes in fields such as industrial structure, occupational health problems, or the improvement of occupational health skills. This study aimed to suggest improvement strategies regarding the health management system in the workplace. Methods: We summarized past empirical or theoretical literature. Results: This study summarized the overview and history of the Korean occupational health management system, advanced foreign occupational health management system, and the effectiveness of the health management at workplace. Further, this study proposed various strategies to improve the occupational health management system in Korea. Method: We summarized past empirical or theoretical literature. Conclusion: The effective operation of the health management system in the workplace would improve workers' health, in addition to enhancing national competitiveness through securing a healthy workforce.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to predict industrial accident rate using time series analysis. Methods: The rates of industrial accident and occupational injury death were analyzed using industrial accident statistics analysis system of the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency from 2001 to 2014. Time series analysis was done using the most recent data, such as raw materials of Economically Active Population Survey, Economic Statistics System of the Bank of Korea, and e-National indicators. The best-fit model with time series analysis to predict occupational injury was developed by identifying predictors when the value of Akaike Information Criteria was the lowest point. Variables into the model were selected through a series of expertises' consultations and literature review, which consisted of socioeconomic structure, labor force structure, working conditions, and occupational accidents. Results: Indexes at the meso- and macro-levels predicting well occurrence of occupational accidents and occupational injury death were labor force participation rate for ages 45-49 and budget for small scaled workplace support. The rates of industrial accident and occupational injury death are expected to decline. Conclusion: For reducing industrial accident continuously, we call for safe employment policy of economically active middle aged adults and support for improving safety work environment of small sized workplace.
This study aims to investigate the changes in the occupational structure of employment in Korea during the last three decades, in which have transformed from industrialized economy to knowledge-based economy very rapidly as well as having experiences of both IMF and financial crisis. For this purpose, we analyze the trends occupational distribution and the socio-demographic characteristics of the occupational structure of employment since 1980. By applying correspondence analysis of Multidimensional Scaling(MDS) methods, we examine the inter-relationships between the employed persons by occupation and their characteristics such as gender, age group, educational attainment, industry, region. We found the occupational structure of Korea has been changed dramatically with the socio-economic transformations during the last four decades. In particular, the occupational (job) structure has been highered in general. However, it has also been dualized extremely into two groups, one is the specialized-skilled-white color jobs and the other is the simple-unskilled-blue color jobs. The results of this study could be utilized as the importation basis for the provision of labour supply and employment policy plan at the national level as well as at the local level.

The total number of confined space accident cases from 1999 to 2007 in Korea were 220, causing 353 injuries and 212 casualties. Out of 220 cases, 44(20.0%) occurred in sewage treatment facilities and 40(18.2%) occurred in both manholes and containers. When the main causes of confined space accidents were classified, oxygen deficiency accounted for 69 cases(31.4%), carbon monoxide, 48(21.8%), hydrogen sulfide, 40(18.2%), and organic solvent, 32(14.5%). Improvement of occupational accident statistics is necessary in order to report accurate and precise data for confined space accidents. The structure of confined space must be considered when selecting gas to be measured.
