Purpose: To compare the radiographic evaluations between two radiographic views (AP and lateral views) and four radiographic views (AP, lateral and both oblique views) in ankle fractures. Materials and Methods: From January 2000 to June 2002, 60 cases of ankle fractures were treated with open reduction and internal fixation and its followed up periods were at least 2 years. All cases were classified into three groups according to the method of preoperative radiographic evaluation. Two radiographic views (AP and lateral views) were taken in group A and four radiographic views (AP, lateral and both oblique views) were taken in group B. 12 Cases were evaluated with three dimensional computed tomography (3D CT). Four radiographic views and 3D CT were taken in group C. All cases were classified according to the Danis-Weber and Lauge-Hansen classification. Displacement of fracture fragment of medial, lateral, posterior malleolus and size of fracture fragment of posterior malleous were measured using picture archiving communication system (PACS). Results: Although kappa value between two or four radiographic views were good or excellent in Danis-Weber classification and Lauge-Hansen classification of ankle fractures, the displacements of medial and lateral malleoli were statistically different. Four radiographic views evalulated the degree of displacement of medial and lateral fragments more accurately compared to two radiographic views. Conclusion: Four radiographic views will be more useful than two radiographic views to decide the method of treatment and operation considering the displacement of fracture fragment.

Purpose: Diversity and the lachrymal duct deformities and the passage inside the nasal cavity except for anterior image such as epiphora happens during the test were able to express more precisely during the dacryoscintigraphy. Also, we thought about the necessity of a method to classify the passage into the naso-lachrymal duct from epiphora. Therefore, we are to find the validity of the method to obtain both oblique views except for anterior views. Materials and Methods: The targets of this research are 78 patients with epiphora due to the blockage at the lachrymal duct from January 2013 to August 2013. Average age was $56.96{\pm}13.36$. By using a micropipette, we dropped 1-2 drops of $^{99m}TcO4^-$ of 3.7 MBq (0.1 mCi) with $10{\mu}L$ of each drop into the inferior conjunctival fold, then we performed dynamic check for 20 minutes with 20 frames of each minute. In case of we checked the passage from both eyes to nasal cavity immediately after the dynamic check, we obtained oblique view immediately. If we didn't see the passage in either side of the orbit, we obtained oblique views of the orbit after checking the frontal film in 40 minutes. The instrument we used was Pin-hole Collimator with Gamma Camera(Siemens Orbiter, Hoffman Estates, IL, USA). Results: Among the 78 patients with dacryoscintigraphy, 35 patients were confirmed with passage into the nasal cavity from the anterior view. Among those 35 patients, 15 patients were confirmed with passage into the nasal cavity on both eyes, and it was able to observe better passage patterns through oblique view with a result of 8 on both eyes, 2 on left eye, and 1 on right eye. 20 patients had passage in left eye or right eye, among those patients 10 patients showed clear passage compared to the anterior view. 13 patients had possible passage, and 30 patients had no proof of motion of the tracer. To sum up, 21 patients (60%) among 35 patients showed clear pattern of passage with additional oblique views compared to anterior view. People responded obtaining oblique views though 5 points scale about the utility of passage identification helps make diagnoses the passage, passage delayed, and blockage of naso-lachrymal duct by showing the well-seen portions from anterior view. Also, when classifying passage to naso-lachrymal duct and flow to the skin, oblique views has higher chance of classification in case of epiphora (anterior:$4.14{\pm}0.3$, oblique:$4.55{\pm}0.4$). Conclusion: It is considered that if you obtain oblique views of the bilateral orbits in addition to anterior view during the dacryoscintigraphy, the ability of diagnose for reading will become higher because you will be able to see the areas that you could not observe from the anterior view so that you can see if it emitted after the naso-lachrymal duct and the flow of epiphora on the skin.
A 3-year-old male Thoroughbred serving as a Korean racehorse named RAON PORTEOUS presented with acute lameness concomitant with edema and fever in the right carpal joint after completing a horse race. Through radiological examination using lateromedial oblique, flexed lateromedial oblique and dorsopromixal-dorsodistal oblique views, the horse was diagnosed with a slab fracture in the 3rd carpal bone of right forelimb. The fracture was surgically approached and corrected by applying 4.5 mm leg screw fixation during surgery. At eight months post-surgery, the horse was able to return to racing and has had successful racing performances with two wins and several prizes in the last 8 months. This is the first reported case of the successful use of lag screw fixation surgery in Korea with the horse showing complete recovery from a severe injury that is often considered fatal in a racehorse.

The use of fluoroscopy guidance together with the loss of resistance technique during epidural injections has been advocated lately; moreover, epidural injections in the absence of fluoroscopic guidance have a high rate of inaccurate needle-tip placement during the injections. However, the approach to the lower cervical and upper thoracic epidural space may be challenging due to its obscure lateral fluoroscopic views from overlying normal tissue structures. In this case, we report an alternative oblique C-arm fluoroscopy guided view approach to supplement the standard anterior-posterior and lateral fluoroscopic views to facilitate successful needle placement and precise anatomical localization of the epidural space.
Thyroid scans using $Na^{131}I\;and\;^{99m}TcO_4^-$ in two (anterior and anterior oblique) projections were done simultaneously in 50 patients with single palpable nodule and in euthyroid state(nodular nontoxic goiter) and 20 normal subjects to evaluate the imaging ability of each radionuclide and the necessity of oblique view. In detection of a nodule as a cold or cool area, $^{99m}TcO_4^-$ was slightly superior to $^{131}I$(82 % to 78% with anterior view alone, 92% to 84% when oblique view is added in detectability), with addition of an oblique view, 5 more cold or cool area in $^{99m}Tc$ scan and 3 more $^{131}I$ scan were detected. In normal subjects $^{99m}TcO_4^-$ scan was significantly superior to $^{131}I$ scan(90% to 70%) in getting normal pattern of tracer uptake in the glands. For routine imaging study of the thyroid, $^{99m}Tc$ pertechnetate scan with multiple projection is considered to be a preferable method.
Objective : To evaluate 3-dimensional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of Kambin's safe zone to calculate maximum cannula diameter permissible for safe percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy. Methods : Fifty 3D MRIs of 19 males and 31 females (mean, 47 years) were analysed. Oblique, axial and sagittal views were used for image analysis. Three authors calculated the inscribed circle (cannula diameter) individually, within the neural (original) and bony Kambin's triangle in oblique views, disc heights on sagittal views and root to facet distances at upper and lower end plate levels on axial views and their averages were taken. Results : The mean root to facet distances at upper end plate level measured on axial sections increased from $3.42{\pm}3.01mm$ at L12 level to $4.57{\pm}2.49mm$ at L5S1 level. The mean root to facet distances at lower end plate level measured on axial sections also increased from $6.07{\pm}1.13mm$ at L12 level to $12.9{\pm}2.83mm$ at L5S1 level. Mean maximum cannula diameter permissible through the neural Kambin's triangle increased from $5.67{\pm}1.38mm$ at L12 level to $9.7{\pm}3.82mm$ at L5S1 level. The mean maximum cannula diameter permissible through the bony Kambin's triangle also increased from $4.03{\pm}1.08mm$ at L12 level to $6.11{\pm}1mm$ at L5S1 level. Only 2% of the 427 bony Kambin's triangles could accommodate a cannula diameter of 8mm. The base of the bony Kambin's triangle taken in oblique view (3D MRI) was significantly higher than the root to facet distance at lower end plate level taken in axial view. Conclusion : The largest mean diameter of endoscopic cannula passable through "bony" Kambin's triangle was distinctively smaller than the largest mean diameter of endoscopic cannula passable through "neural" Kambin's triangle at all levels. Although proximity of exiting root to the facet joint is always taken into consideration before PELD procedure, our 3D MRI based anatomical study is the first to provide actual maximum cannula dimensions permissible in this region.
The cervical spine of anteroposterior oblique view is essential to observe the intervertebral foramen(IVF). The morphologic changes of IVFs were proved to be abnormal with nerve roots and peripheral structures. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effective projection angle for observing the IVFs in the Korean adults. In a prospective clinical study of 100 normal persons, $45^{\circ}$, $50^{\circ}$ and $55^{\circ}$ oblique views were compared by measuring the maximal transverse diameter of all the cervical IVFs. $45^{\circ}$ oblique views provided slightly better visualization of upper cervical level(C2-C3, C3-C4, C4-C5), but the lower cervical level(C5-C6, C6-C7, C7-T1) of IVF transverse diameters were substantially increased on the $55^{\circ}$ AP oblique projection. In the comprasion of mean differences between 8 obese person(BMI > 25) and 58 normal person(18.5 < BMI < 22.9) proved to be statistically not significant. Consequently this study shows that $55^{\circ}$AP oblique(tube angle $15^{\circ}$cephalad) view is optimal for evaluating the lower cervical IVFs.
Consideration of Glenohumeral joint's image with the Changed Body angle of the Glenohumeral joint's Oblique Position in Erect Position. Glenohumeral joint's of Grashey method is a shoulder oblique method available to view the shoulder joint. Grashey method projects AP view of the Glenohumeral joint's so that the Humerus head's subluxation or joint degeneration can be easily visualized. However in this view, the patients, erect position, have to keep their body obliquely. Oblique position is will be needed to get the good quality Glenohumeral joint's view. Therefore, we thought of examining a method which shows the Glenohumeral joint's well by angling the patient one side upward in erect position. For this study, total 20 subject with no history of neurological or psychiatric illness, were recruited for examinations. They consisted of 13 mails and 7 femails, Statistic group analysis was performed with ANOVA test. Score of the evaluation of the expects were $30^{\circ}$ at $0.40{\pm}0.499$, $35^{\circ}$ at $1.34{\pm}0.657$, $40^{\circ}$ at $1.84{\pm}0.573$, $45^{\circ}$ at $0.76{\pm}0.649$, and they were significant(P<0.05). The degree of $40^{\circ}$ views were shown to yield good quality shoulder oblique images.

An anatomic radiolucency called medial sigmoid depression can be observed on a number of panoramic and mandibular oblique lateral views in the ramus just below and anterior to the mandibular sigmoid notch. The radiolucency may be unilateral or bilateral. Seventy-eight mandibles of dry skulls were visually examined and radiographed by panoramic machine. The observable incidence, the location center, and the mean size of the medial sigmoid depression were studied. Additionally, the radiographic incidence of the depression was determined using 500 panoramic radiographs. Normal anatomic radiolucent areas in the jaws are encountered often in the radiographs taken for the usual dental practice purpose. Some of these radiolucencies can be misdiagnosed as pathologic entities. But in most cases, the size, location, and appearance of the radiolucent area, and the presence or absence of symptoms can lead one to the correct diagnosis before surgery is undertaken. And this can be secured if diagnosticians are aware of the common and varied appearances of the normal anatomic radiolucencies A depression in the ramus just below and slightly anterior to the most inferior aspect of mandibular sigmoid notch shows occasionally foramen-like or notch-like radiolucency on some panoramic and oblique lateral views. This radiolucency was named medial sigmoid depression by Langlais et a1. in 1983. Since there're no reports about this medial sigmoid depression after that, (The author retrieved the Mediline from 1983 to 1990: Cambridge scientific abstracts, (7200 Wisconsin Ave Bethesda MD 20814 U.S.A.) National Library of Medicine) the author studied the size and the location of the depression of the mandible specimens, and determined the relationship between the observable anatomic incidence and its reproducibility on the radiographs.
Arthroscopy is a valuable diagnostic and operative tool in equine and human orthopedics. The arthroscope is a difficult instrument to use and requires patience, practice, and persistence in order to obtain good results. This technique was found to be less traumatic than arthrotomy, invasiveness, rapid recovery and the feasibility of surgically correcting many arthropathies. The use of the arthroscope in the dog provides a new dimension in the study and diagnosis of joint derangements. The purpose of this report is to introduce the use of the arthroscope in the dog-more specifically, in the stifle of the dog. A diameter 2.7 mm fore-oblique viewing arthroscope, cold light source, video and video printer are used. With the fore-oblique viewing type it is possible to view directly as well as slightly to the side and the range of viewing can be increased by rotating the arthroscope around the object The scope is connected with a cold light source by means of a fiber-optic light guide. The stifle joint was flexed to 20~30$^{\circ}$. The joint were lavaged with lactated Ringer's solution during arthroscopic examination. Arthroscopy of the stifle was performed prior to arthrotomy in 1 dead dog and 4 healthy dogs, and other 3 dogs was performed only arthroscopic examination. In this study only the conventional approaches were used and in most cases it was possible to view all the intra-articular structures via the lateral infrapatellar approach. In the stifle joint, endoscopic observation was performed to find lateral femoral condyle, patella, medial femoral condyle, trochlear groove, tibia, fat, cranial cruciate ligament, caudal cruciate ligament lateral meniscus, tendon of long digital extensor muscle, medial meniscus, and medial collateral ligament Post-arthroscopic examination, the lameness had disappeared within 12~24 hours. Pain and swelling in the stifle joint had disappeared within 24~36 hours. Post-arthroscopic secondary infection was never encountered in the dogs. In conclusion, arthroscopic insertion technique in canine stifle joint using a diameter 2.7 mm 30$^{\circ}$ arthroscope was established and arthroscopical views of all anatomical structures in the normal stilfe joint were obtained through lateral infrapatellar portal.
