Deep Learning-based Image Data Processing and Archival System for Object Detection of Endangered Species

  • It is important to understand the exact habitat distribution of endangered species because of their decreasing numbers. In this study, we build a system with a deep learning module that collects the image data of endangered animals, processes the data, and saves the data automatically. The system provides a more efficient way than human effort for classifying images and addresses two problems faced in previous studies. First, specious answers were suggested in those studies because the probability distributions of answer candidates were calculated even if the actual answer did not exist within the group. Second, when there were more than two entities in an image, only a single entity was focused on. We applied an object detection algorithm (YOLO) to resolve these problems. Our system has an average precision of 86.79%, a mean recall rate of 93.23%, and a processing speed of 13 frames per second.

  • The camera based object detection systems should satisfy the recognition performance as well as real-time constraints. Particularly, in safety-critical systems such as Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), the real-time constraints significantly affects the system performance. Recently, multi-core processors and system-on-chip technologies are widely used to accelerate the object detection algorithm by distributing computational loads. However, due to the advanced hardware, the complexity of system architecture is increased even though additional hardwares improve the real-time performance. The increased complexity also cause difficulty in migration of existing algorithms and development of new algorithms. In this paper, to improve real-time performance and design complexity, a task scheduling strategy is proposed for visual object tracking systems. The real-time performance of the vision algorithm is increased by applying pipelining to task scheduling in a multi-core processor. Finally, the proposed task scheduling algorithm is applied to crosswalk detection and tracking system to prove the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.

  • We proposed a realtime object tracking system that detects the abandoned or disappeared objects. Because these events are caused by human, we used the tracking based algorithm. After the background subtraction by Gaussian mixture model, the shadow removal is applied for accurate object detection. The static object is classified as either of abandoned objects or disappeared object. We assigned monitoring time to the static object to overcome a situation that it is being overlapped by other object. We obtained more accurate detection by using region growing method. We implemented our algorithm by DSP processor and obtained an excellent result throughout the experiment.

  • A realization for moving object detecting and tracking system in two dimensional plane using stereo line CCDs and lighting source is presented in this paper. Instead of processing camera images directly, two line CCD sensor and input line image is used to measure two dimensional distance by comparing the brightness on line CCDs. The algorithms are used the moving object tracking and coordinate converting method. To ensure the effective detection of moving path, a detection algorithm to evaluate the reliability of each measured distance is developed. The realized system results are that the performance of moving object recognizing shows 5mm resolution and mean error is 1.89%, and enables to track a moving path of object per 100ms period.

  • The construction industry has achieved many benefits through the mechanization of the construction. However, due to accidents for construction machinery, the mortality rate has increased rapidly. Thus, the objective of this study is to develop of tilt modules for object detection system of excavator. The modified laser sensor that increase the efficiency of object detection system was tested. Based on these results, tilt modules were developed through the conceptual design and detailed design. Then, this tilt modules can be applied to the safety management system of excavator and using this tilt modules will be able to improve the efficiency of the system.

Development of a deep-learning based automatic tracking of moving vehicles and incident detection processes on tunnels (딥러닝 기반 터널 내 이동체 자동 추적 및 유고상황 자동 감지 프로세스 개발)

  • An unexpected event could be easily followed by a large secondary accident due to the limitation in sight of drivers in road tunnels. Therefore, a series of automated incident detection systems have been under operation, which, however, appear in very low detection rates due to very low image qualities on CCTVs in tunnels. In order to overcome that limit, deep learning based tunnel incident detection system was developed, which already showed high detection rates in November of 2017. However, since the object detection process could deal with only still images, moving direction and speed of moving vehicles could not be identified. Furthermore it was hard to detect stopping and reverse the status of moving vehicles. Therefore, apart from the object detection, an object tracking method has been introduced and combined with the detection algorithm to track the moving vehicles. Also, stopping-reverse discrimination algorithm was proposed, thereby implementing into the combined incident detection processes. Each performance on detection of stopping, reverse driving and fire incident state were evaluated with showing 100% detection rate. But the detection for 'person' object appears relatively low success rate to 78.5%. Nevertheless, it is believed that the enlarged richness of image big-data could dramatically enhance the detection capacity of the automatic incident detection system.

  • Recently, the utilization of the object tracking algorithm based on the deep learning model is increasing. A system for tracking multiple objects in an image is typically composed of a chain form of an object detection algorithm and an object tracking algorithm. However, chain-type systems composed of several modules require a high performance computing environment and have limitations in their application to actual applications. In this paper, we propose a method that enables real-time operation in low-performance computing environment by adjusting the computational process of object detection module in the object detection-tracking chain type system.

Object Detection with LiDAR Point Cloud and RGBD Synthesis Using GNN

  • The 3D point cloud is a key technology of object detection for virtual reality and augmented reality. In order to apply various areas of object detection, it is necessary to obtain 3D information and even color information more easily. In general, to generate a 3D point cloud, it is acquired using an expensive scanner device. However, 3D and characteristic information such as RGB and depth can be easily obtained in a mobile device. GNN (Graph Neural Network) can be used for object detection based on these characteristics. In this paper, we have generated RGB and RGBD by detecting basic information and characteristic information from the KITTI dataset, which is often used in 3D point cloud object detection. We have generated RGB-GNN with i-GNN, which is the most widely used LiDAR characteristic information, and color information characteristics that can be obtained from mobile devices. We compared and analyzed object detection accuracy using RGBD-GNN, which characterizes color and depth information.

Object Detection-Based Cloud System: Efficient Disease Monitoring with Database (객체 검출 기반 클라우드 시스템 : 데이터베이스를 통한 효율적인 병해 모니터링)

  • The decline in the rural populace and an aging workforce have led to fatalities due to worsening environments and hazards within vinyl greenhouses. Therefore, it is necessary to automate crop cultivation and disease detection system in greenhouses to prevent labor loss. In this paper, an object detection-based model is used to detect diseased crop in greenhouses. In addition, the system proposed configures the environment of the artificial intelligence model in the cloud to ensure stability. The system captures images taken inside the vinyl greenhouse and stores them in a database, and then downloads the images to the cloud to perform inference based on Yolo-v4 for detection, generating JSON files for the results. Analyze this file and send it to the database for storage. From the experimental results, it was confirmed that disease detection through object detection showed high performance in real environments like vinyl greenhouses. It was also verified that efficient monitoring is possible through the database

Combining Shape and SIFT Features for 3-D Object Detection and Pose Estimation (효과적인 3차원 객체 인식 및 자세 추정을 위한 외형 및 SIFT 특징 정보 결합 기법)

  • Three dimensional (3-D) object detection and pose estimation from a single view query image has been an important issue in various fields such as medical applications, robot vision, and manufacturing automation. However, most of the existing methods are not appropriate in a real time environment since object detection and pose estimation requires extensive information and computation. In this paper, we present a fast 3-D object detection and pose estimation scheme based on surrounding camera view-changed images of objects. Our scheme has two parts. First, we detect images similar to the query image from the database based on the shape feature, and calculate candidate poses. Second, we perform accurate pose estimation for the candidate poses using the scale invariant feature transform (SIFT) method. We earned out extensive experiments on our prototype system and achieved excellent performance, and we report some of the results.
