펜실바니아 유역 수질의 공간적 변이에 관한 연구 (Spatial Variations of Nutrient Concentrations in Pennsylvania Watersheds)

  • 이 연구는 7년 동안의 수문, 기후, 수질자료를 이용하여 펜실바니아 38개 유역 수질의 공간적 변이 패턴을 고찰하였다. 연구기간동안 도시적, 농업적 토지이용이 많은 유역에서 농도의 변이가 심하게 나타났다. 질소의 농도는 농업적 토지이용과. 인의 농도는 도시적 토지이용과 상관관계가 높게 나타났다. 주성분분석을 통해 이들의 농도 변이를 설명하는 주요 성분 셋이 - 토지 지형관련, 기후관련, 규모 - 도출되었다. 부분 여분 분석을 통해 기후, 토지, 지형의 복합적인 영향이 질소 농도 변이의 28.1%를 설명하고 있으며, 순수한 토지 변수의 영향이 인 농도의 41.8 o/o를 설명하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 주 전체적인 차원에서 농도변이의 뚜렷한 지리적 패턴-북서부지역의 낮은 농도와 남동부지역의 높은 농도-이 나타나고 있으며, 이는 지역적 규모에서 수문, 기후, 토지이용, 지형 등 여러 가지 환경변수의 복합적인 상호관련성을 반영하고 있다.

Prediction of Nutrient Composition and In-Vitro Dry Matter Digestibility of Corn Kernel Using Near Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy

  • Nutritive value analysis of feed is very important for the growth of livestock, and ensures the efficiency of feeds as well as economic status. However, general laboratory analyses require considerable time and high cost. Near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) is a spectroscopic technique used to analyze the nutritive values of seeds. It is very effective and less costly than the conventional method. The sample used in this study was a corn kernel and the partial least square regression method was used for evaluating nutrient composition, digestibility, and energy value based on the calibration equation. The evaluation methods employed were the coefficient of determination ($R^2$) and the root mean squared error of prediction (RMSEP). The results showed the moisture content ($R^2_{val}=0.97$, RMSEP=0.109), crude protein content ($R^2_{val}=0.94$, RMSEP=0.212), neutral detergent fiber content ($R^2_{val}=0.96$, RMSEP=0.763), acid detergent fiber content ($R^2_{val}=0.96$, RMSEP=0.142), gross energy ($R^2_{val}=0.82$, RMSEP=23.249), in vitro dry matter digestibility ($R^2_{val}=0.68$, RMSEP=1.69), and metabolizable energy (approximately $R^2_{val}$ >0.80). This study confirmed that the nutritive components of corn kernels can be predicted using near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy.

농촌 이유기(離乳期) 어린이의 영양섭취조사 (A Food and Nutrient Intake Study of the Weaning Children in Rural Korea)

  • Ninety-three weaning children, 8-36 Mo. old wererandomly selected from rural areas of South Korea. Food and nutrient intake level were measured by the weighing-interview method for two consecutive days in December 1976. Their weaning pattern, dietary pattern, food and nutrient intake level were analyzed. A brief summary of 4he finding follows; 1) 80% of the rural children completed the weaning by the age of 24 months. 2) 44% of 8-12 month olds were living only on breast mil while the rest of the age group received regularly a supplementary food. 3) Over half of the 8-36 Mo old children investigated were receiving the same dietary pattern, arbitrarily called 'Diet K'. Diet K consists of rice-Kimchi-seasoning-oil which is the basic components of an average Korean adult diet. This very composition of the diet K and no other variety of food included inevitably result in low intake of vitamin A, iron, calcium and riboflavin for the children. 4) The weaning children were found to be taking all nutrients except niacin in amount far from sufficient to recommended level. Particularly low were the intakes of good quality protein, iron, vitamin A, riboflavin and vitamin C which met only 15%-37% of the recommended level for 12-36 Mo. olds. 5) It was concluded that majority of the rural children of weaning age in Korea are given the simple diet K and feeding the weaning children only with the basic dietary pattern of adults can not meet the nutritional requirements. Comparison of the chemical compositions and nutritive values of various pumpkin ($Cucurbitaceae$) species and parts

  • Pumpkins have considerable variation in nutrient contents depending on the cultivation environment, species, or part. In this study, the general chemical compositions and some bioactive components, such as tocopherols, carotenoids, and ${\beta}$-sitosterol, were analyzed in three major species of pumpkin ($Cucurbitaceae$ $pepo$, $C.$ $moschata$, and $C.$ $maxima$) grown in Korea and also in three parts (peel, flesh, and seed) of each pumpkin species. $C.$ $maxima$ had significantly more carbohydrate, protein, fat, and fiber than $C.$ pepo or $C.$ $moschata$ (P<0.05). The moisture content as well as the amino acid and arginine contents in all parts of the pumpkin was highest in $C.$ $pepo$. The major fatty acids in the seeds were palmitic, stearic, oleic, and linoleic acids. $C.$ $pepo$ and $C.$ $moschata$ seeds had significantly more ${\gamma}$-tocopherol than $C.$ $maxima$, whose seeds had the highest ${\beta}$-carotene content. $C.$ $pepo$ seeds had significantly more ${\beta}$-sitosterol than the others. Nutrient compositions differed considerably among the pumpkin species and parts. These results will be useful in updating the nutrient compositions of pumpkin in the Korean food composition database. Additional analyses of various pumpkins grown in different years and in different areas of Korea are needed.

제주 송이를 이용한 방울토마토 양액재배시 양액성분 및 생육에 관한 연구 (Study on the Nutrient Solution Content and Growth of Cherry Tomato in Scoria Culture)

  • 양액재배에서 제주송이가 다른 배지와 비교하여 방울토마토의 수량 및 품질에 미치는 영향과 양액성분 변화를 조사하여 제주송이를 양액재배용 고형배지로 실용화하기 위하여 시험한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 건엽비, 건과비, 당산비는 1익㉣ 1회 1시간 담액후에 완전 배액한 구에서 높았다. 2. 방울토마토 생과중은 상위 화방으로 갈수록 암면구와 담액수경구는 작아졌으나, 송이구와 일향토구, 펄라이트구 등 고형배지경에서 무거웠다. 3. 방울토마토의 생육이 왕성한 시기에 양액성분중 다량원소를 분석한 결과는 송이 재배구에서 인산과 칼륨 농도가 낮았다. 4. 방울토마토의 수량과 당도는 암면과 일향토구에서 높은 경향을 보였다. 5. 일반적으로 양액재배에서는 수분의 증발과 식물의 수분 흡수 증산작용으로 비료염의 농도가 높아가는데 송이구도 다른 고형배지경과 비슷한 결과를 보였다. 6. 제주 송이 양액재배용 고형배지로 손쉽게 이용할 수 있는 가벼운 자재로 가공개발 연구가 있어야 할 것으로 본다.

Effect of Methionine Supplementation on Performance and Carcass Characteristics of Awassi Ram Lambs Fed Finishing Diets

  • The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of ruminally-protected methionine supplementation (0, 7, or 14 g/head/d) on nutrient intake, digestibility, growth performance, carcass, and meat characteristics of Awassi ram lambs fed finishing diets. Twenty four Awassi ram lambs ($16.8{\pm}1.17kg$ body weight) were randomly assigned to 3 treatment diets (8 lambs/treatment) and housed in individual pens. Lambs were given an adaptation period of 7 days before the intensive feeding period that lasted for 86 days. On day 74 of the trial, a digestibility experiment was performed. At the end of the trial (d 86), all lambs were slaughtered to evaluate carcass characteristics and meat quality. Increasing the level of methionine supplementation did not improve (p>0.05) performance nor feed conversion ratio. Nutrient intake and digestibilities were not influenced (p>0.05) by methionine supplementation. There were no differences in final weight, hot and cold carcass weights, dressing percentages or any of the measured non-carcass components. Tissues and fat depth measurements together with all meat quality attributes measured on longissimus muscle of the loin cut were not affected by methionine supplementation. The only meat quality parameters affected were redness (a*) and the hue angle being higher for the control group (p<0.05). These results suggest that methionine supplementation is not likely to produce any production benefits in nutrient digestibilities, performance or carcass characteristics of ram lambs fed a high performance diet.

AMOUNT AND DISTRIBUTION OF DIETARY MINERALS IN SELECTED PHILIPPINE FORAGES

  • Eight Philoppine forages were studied to obtain the following: 1) nutrient concentrations and digestibility, 2) distribution of the various minerals in fiber fractions through mineral analyses of neutral detergent fiber(NDF) and acid detergent fiber(ADF) residues, and 3) correlation coefficients among the factors affecting forage quality and mineral concentrations. These Philippine forages were paragrass [Brachiaria mutica (Forsk.) Stapf], stargrass (Cynodon plectostachyum Pilger), napiergrass (Pennisetum purpureum Schumach.) calopo (Calopogonium muconoides Desv.), centrocema (Centrocema pubescens Benth.), gliricidia [Gliricidia sepium (Jacq.) Walp.] leucaena [Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) de Wit.] and sesbania [Sesbania grandiflora (L.) Poir]. Species differences(p<0.01) were observed on various nutrient fractions including mineral composition and digestibility. The cell wall(NDF) fraction, prepared by boiling in neutral detergent solution, contained the following proportions of the total mineral originally present (%): calcium (Ca), 0.7; phosphorus(P), 14.3; magnesium(Mg), 1.9; potassium(K), 3.7; copper(Cu), 16.4; zinc(Zn), 2.9; molybdenum(Mo), 9.3; cobalt(Co), 16.2; manganese(Mn), 5.6, and iron(Fe), 81.3. The ligno-cellulose(ADF) fraction, prepared by boiling in acid detergent solution, contained the following proportions of the total mineral originally present(%): Ca, 0.2; P, 4.4; Mg, 0.7; K, 2.8; Cu, 32.3; Zn, 1.1; Mo, 8.9; Co, 4.7; Mn, 5.4; and Fe, 36.8. Correlation coefficients among the factors affection forage quality and mineral concentrations were also observed. Evidently, 75 and 45% of the minerals in grasses and legumes was positively correlated to CP and IVDMD, respectively. Moreover, 55, 80 and 75% of the forage minerals was negatively correlated to NDF, ADF and ADL fraction, respetively, implying that most of the minerals reside in the non-structural cell components.

Effects of Dietary Addition of Surfactant Tween 80 on Ruminal Fermentation and Nutrient Digestibility of Hanwoo Steers

  • A non-ionic surfactant, Tween 80 has been known to exert a number of positive effects on degradative enzymes in in vitro aerobic and anaerobic microbial cultures. An experiment was conducted to examine effects of supplementation of Tween 80 on ruminal fermentation and nutrient digestibility of Hanwoo steers. The experiment was designed as a $3{\times}3$ Latin square with duplication and six Hanwoo steers with rumen cannulae, average weight 497 (SE 61.1) kg. For the experiment the animals were given a basal diet consisting of rice straw and compound feed mixed at 4:6 ratio. The three experimental treatments were (1) the basal diet, supplemented with (2) 5 g/d Tween 80 and (3) 10 g/d Tween 80. Ruminal pH was significantly (p<0.05) affected by Tween 80 supplementation at 6 h after feeding. Increasing supplementation levels of Tween 80 linearly increased the total VFA concentration. CMCase activity by the 10g/d supplementation of Tween 80 were significantly increased (p<0.05) by 24.4% compared with that of control. Digestibility of crude fiber was significantly increased (p<0.05) in Hanwoo steers fed the diet supplemented with 10 g/d Tween 80 compared with those of control, whilst digestibility of ether extract (EE) was linearly increased by increasing Tween 80 supplementation level (p<0.05). In other nutrient components, their digestibilities of Hanwoo fed diets supplemented with Tween 80 tended to increase. It is concluded that Tween 80 has a potential for industrial application as a feed additive to improve ruminant production.

농촌 지역 폐경 후 여성의 골밀도에 따른 영양소 섭취 상태 및 혈청 오스테오칼신, 칼슘, 인, 마그네슘 함량과 이들간의 상관성 연구 (A Study of Nutrient Intake and Serum Levels of Osteocalcin, Ca, P, and Mg and Their Correlation to Bone Mineral Density in Korean Postmenopausal Women Residing in Rural Areas)

  • Postmenopausal women lose more bone mass than men as a result of estrogen deprivation. The resultant low bone mineral density (BMD) is a major risk factor in the development of osteoporosis. Calcium, phosphorus and magnesium are main components of bone. The purpose of this study is to investigate nutrient intake and serum osteocalcin, Ca, P and Mg and their correlation to bone mineral density in Korean postmenopausal women residing in rural areas. We conducted 24 hour dietary recalls, anthropometric measurements and blood analysis on 60 postmenopausal women. The BMD of the lumbar spine (L2$\rightarrow$L4) and the femoral neck were measured by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA). Subjects were assigned to one of three groups:normal (T-score> -1, n=20), osteopenia (-2.5> T-score $\leq$ -1, n=23), and osteoporosis ( T-score $\leq$ -2.5, n=17). The mean age, height, weight and BMI were 62.37 yr, 154.36 cm, 55.28 kg and 23.18 $kg/m^2$ respectively. The mean daily energy and protein intakes were 76.35% and 87.41% of RDA for Koreans. The mean intakes of calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium were 463.62 mg (66.23% of RDA), 955.32 mg (136.47% of RDA), 345.87 mg respectively. The mean serum levels of calcium, phosphorus and magnesium were 8.76 mg/dl, 3.80 mg/dl, and 2.10 mg/dl, respectively, and there were no significant differences among the three groups. However, the BMD of the femoral neck showed a significantly negative correlation with serum magnesium (p<0.05). To summarize the results, most nutrient intakes (especially calcium) in postmenopausal women did not reach the RDA values for Koreans. Also, increase of serum magnesium levels may be related to bone loss.

영양상담이 제2형 당뇨병 환자의 혈당과 식사요법에 대한 지식과 실천에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Nutrition Counseling on Diabetes Management in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of nutrition counseling on diabetes management by determining changes in anthropometry and blood components as well as knowledge and practice of diet therapy and nutrient intake in 34 (male 11, female 23) type 2 diabetes patients. The knowledge and the practice of diet therapy, drinking, smoking and exercise were analyzed by questionnaires. Dietary nutrient intake were obtained from the patients by the 1 day 24-hr recall. Blood glucose level and blood pressure were measured before and 3 months after the treatment. The results are summarized as follows: Average weight (p<0.05) and body mass index (p<0.05) were significantly lower post-counseling. Fasting blood glucose levels (p<0.01) and postprandial-2hour blood glucose levels (p<0.01) were also significantly lower post-counseling. In lifestyle changes for self-management the patients showed significantly higher exercise habits post-counseling (p<0.01). Regarding their level of diet knowledge, they showed significantly higher levels post-counseling in six items such as importance of diet therapy for diabetes (p<0.001), principles of diet therapy (p<0.001), nutrient composition of foods (p<0.01), carbohydrate composition of foods (p<0.001), the prescribed calories (p<0.001) understanding food item and exchange units of cereals, grains (p<0.001) and fruits, juices (p<0.001). Regarding their diet practices, the patients showed significantly higher levels of practice post-counseling in keeping within permitted meal size (p<0.001), using food exchange lists (p<0.001), keeping exact meal times (p<0.01), and controling sweet foods (p<0.001). Protein (p<0.05), animal lipid (p<0.05), and vitamin C (p<0.05) intakes were significantly higher post-counseling.
