Relationship between Soil Management Methods and Soil Chemical Properties in Protected Cultivation

  • Various cultural practices have been promoted as management options for enhancing soil quality and health. The use of soil management methods can cause changes in fertility by affecting soil chemical properties. This study aimed to evaluate interactions between soil chemical properties and soil management methods in protected cultivation, and to classify soil management methods that similarly affect soil chemical properties. Water-logging and irrigation reduced soil pH and available $P_2O_5$ content. Application of animal manures has a positive effect on levels of organic matter, Av.$P_2O_5$, K, Zn, and Cu. The electrical conductivites tened to be low in the application of organic amendments, including rice and wood residues. Deeper plowing caused a reduction in Ca content. Practicing soil nutrient-considering fertilization and fertigation did not exert an influence on nutrient element contents. In a cluster analysis of the soil management methods according to major nutrients, low similarities were found with deeper plowing and crop rotation with rice in comparison with other practices. In a cluster analysis by minor nutrient characteristics, crop rotation and application of animal manures and rice residues were linked at a high Ward's distance, while other practices were found to be relatively low distinct. Each soil management method has a similar or different effect on soil chemical properties. These results suggest the necessity of establishing limits and standards according to the effects of soil management methods on soil chemical properties for economic soil practices.

Dietary pattern classifications with nutrient intake and body composition changes in Korean elderly

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: The body composition changes in aging increased the risk of metabolic disorder. Recent dietary studies have increasingly focused on the correlations between dietary patterns and chronic diseases to overcome the limitations of traditional single-nutrient studies because nutrients in food have complex relations that interact. SUBJECTS/METHODS: This study was conducted to classify a dietary pattern among Korean elderly using cluster analysis and to explore the relationships between dietary patterns and body composition changes in Korean elderly aged 65 years or older. The study subjects (n=1,435) were individuals who participated in the Korean National Health Examination and Nutrition Survey (KNHANES) in 2011. RESULTS: There were three dietary patterns derived by cluster analysis in this study: 'Traditional Korean' (37.49% of total population), 'Meat and Alcohol' (19.65%) and 'Westernized Korean' (42.86%). The (1) 'Traditional Korean' pattern was characterized by high consumptions of white rice and low protein, low fat, and low milk products, while (2) 'Westernized Korean' pattern ate a Korean-style diet base with various foods such as noodles, bread, eggs and milk, (3) 'Meat and Alcohol' pattern had high consumptions of meat and alcohol. In body composition changes, compared with the 'Traditional Korean' pattern, the 'Meat & alcohol' pattern was associated with a 50% increased risk of having elevated BMI ($kg/m^2$), 'Westernized Korean' pattern was associated with a 74% increased abnormality of ASM/Wt (kg) by logistics analysis. Most of the Korean adult population continues to follow ether a traditional Korean having beneficial effects for successful aging. However, the 'Traditional Korean' pattern showed low protein intake (0.7 g/kg), calcium intake, and vitamin D intake as well as low of appendicular skeletal muscle mass (ASM (kg)) among 3 groups. CONCLUSIONS: Considering the low ASM, consumption of protein, calcium and vitamin D should be increased for Korean elderly health body composition.

담수 이후 용담호 영양상태 변동 요인 분석 (Analysis of Trophic State Variation of Lake Yongdam in Dam Construction)

  • We have performed to analyze the trophic state resulting of Lake Yongdam as a result of water quality and nutrient concentration. Lake Yongdam is artifitial multi-purpose Dam resulting from the floods of 2001. The water quality of Lake Yongdam may affect the status of the Geum river basin including the Daecheong reservoir. It is necessary to understand the trophic state to assess water quality until stability after flooding. Water quality was surveyed using depth and hydraulic condition analysis. Further density flow was estimated for stratification and trophic state of Lake Yongdam by chlorophyll ${\alpha}$ concentration (2001~2004). And Environmental factors on chlorophyll ${\alpha}$ concentration were analyzed statistically. Trophic state was evaluated as the oligotrophic state at the main stream of the reservoir and eutrophic state at the upper stream in 2001, but evaluated as eutrophic state in 2002 and 2003 by TSI of Aizaki. From the results of multiple regression analysis using stepwise method, chlorophyll ${\alpha}$ concentration was shown to be very significant when nutrient concentration is high upon initial filling of the Dam. Chlorophyll ${\alpha}$ concentration varied according to sample site, season and year. Concentration were high in the upper stream of Lake Yongdam 4, algae bloom in these watershed were affected by location and high nutrient levels in the summer season which have in turn increased phytoplankton bloom into the reservoir.

  • 혐기-무산소조건으로 구성된 회분식 반응조에서 질산염을 이용하여 인(P)도 동시에 제거될 수 있는 가능성을 알아보기 위해서 인의 제거 양상을 혐기-호기조건의 반응조와 비교하여 조사하였고, 질산염과 인을 동시에 제거하는 미생물분포를 분석하였다. 그 결과 비교적 낮은 농도의 유기물이 적용되었을 때(평균 CODcr=130mg/ι)두 반응조 모두 인이 효과적으로 제거되었으며 반응조내의 최종 인의 농도를 1 mg P/L. 이하로 유지하였다. 특히, 질산염을 전자수용체로 이용한 혐기-무산소조건의 반응조는 기존의 영양소제거 시스템과 비교하여 5-7 mg (P+N)/ι의 영양소를 추가적으로 제거하여 유기물의 효과적 인 이용이 가능한 것으로 판명되었다. 혐기-무산조 조건의 방응조내 미생물 분포를 조사 한 결과 질소원을 제거하는 미생물군(denitrifying bacteria)과 인을 제거하는 미생물군(polyphosphate accumulating bacteria)이 함께 존재하고 있음이 밝혀졌고, 이들 중 $\beta$-proteobacteria에 속하는 Zoogloea ramigera와 Rhodocyclus에 포함되는Alcaligenes defragrans 등은 탈질능력 이 있으면서 anoxic상태에서 인을 동시에 축적할 수 있는 탈질-탈인균주(denitrifying phosphate accumulating organisms; dPAO)로 조사되었다.

Evaluation of the nutritional value of locally produced forage in Korea using chemical analysis and in vitro ruminal fermentation

  • Objective: The use of locally produced forage (LPF) in cattle production has economic and environmental advantages over imported forage. The objective of this study was to characterize the nutritional value of LPF commonly used in Korea. Differences in ruminal fermentation characteristics were also examined for the LPF species commonly produced from two major production regions: Chungcheong and Jeolla. Methods: Ten LPF (five from each of the two regions) and six of the most widely used imported forages originating from North America were obtained at least three times throughout a year. Each forage species was pooled and analyzed for nutrient content using detailed chemical analysis. Ruminal fermentation characteristics were also determined by in vitro anaerobic incubations using strained rumen fluid for 0, 3, 6, 12, 24, and 48 h. At each incubation time, total gas, pH, ammonia, volatile fatty acid (VFA) concentrations, and neutral detergent fiber digestibility were measured. By fitting an exponential model, gas production kinetics were obtained. Results: Significant differences were found in the non-fiber carbohydrate (NFC) content among the forage species and the regions (p<0.01). No nutrient, other than NFC, showed significant differences among the regions. Crude protein, NFC, and acid detergent lignin significantly differed by forage species. The amount of acid detergent insoluble protein tended to differ among the forages. The forages produced in Chungcheong had a higher amount of NFC than that in Jeolla (p<0.05). There were differences in ruminal fermentation of LPF between the two regions and interactions between regions and forage species were also significant (p<0.05). The pH following a 48-h ruminal fermentation was lower in the forages from Chungcheong than from Jeolla (p<0.01), and total VFA concentration was higher in Chungcheong than in Jeolla (p = 0.05). This implies that fermentation was more active with the forages from Chungcheong than from Jeolla. Analysis of gas production profiles showed the rate of fermentation differed among forage species (p<0.05). Conclusion: The results of the present study showed that the nutritional values of some LPF (i.e., corn silage and Italian ryegrass) are comparable to those of imported forages widely used in Korea. This study also indicated that the nutritional value of LPF differs by origin, as well as by forage species. Detailed analyses of nutrient composition and digestion kinetics of LPF should be routinely employed to evaluate the correct nutritional value of LPF and to increase their use in the field.

EC 기준 파프리카 순환식 수경재배에서 양액 교체 주기에 따른 양액 중의 이온 균형 및 각 이온의 EC 기여도 변화 (Changes in Ion Balance and Individual Ionic Contributions to EC Reading at Different Renewal Intervals of Nutrient Solution under EC-based Nutrient Control in Closed-loop Soilless Culture for Sweet Peppers (Capsicum annum L. 'Fiesta'))

  • EC 기준의 순환식 수경재배시스템에서 재사용 양액 내의 이온 농도의 변화와 각 이온의 EC 기여 비율의 변화는 안정적인 양액 관리를 위해서 고려되어야 할 중요한 요인이다. 본 연구는 초기 생육단계 파프리카의 EC 기준 순환식 수경재배에서 교체 주기에 따른 재사용 양액 내 이온 농도, 이온균형 및 이온의 EC 기여도의 변화를 조사하여 재사용 양액의 적정 분석 주기를 규명하고자 수행하였다. 실험은 파프리카의 평균 마디수가 13마디일 때 시작하였고, 처리 종료시점에서는 평균 마디수가 18마디였다. 1개의 암면 슬라브당 3주의 파프리카가 재배되었다. 처리는 재사용 양액의 교체 주기에 따라 각각 1주, 2주, 3주, 4주 교체 처리구로 구성되었다. 양액은 일사비례제어방식으로 급액되었다. 배액은 배액 탱크에 수집된 후에 당일 관수가 종료된 후 혼합 탱크에서 EC $2.69dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$가 될 때까지 희석되었다. 혼합된 양액은 익일의 양액으로 사용되었다. 재사용 양액은 주기적으로 수집하여 분석되었다. 교체 주기에 따른 이온 농도의 변화는 처리별 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 모든 처리구에서 이온 농도의 변화 범위는 각각 $K^+$ 5-8, $Ca^{2+}$ 11-14, $Mg^{2+}$ 2.0-2.7, $Na^+$ 0.5-0.6, $NO_3{^-}$ 14-19, ${SO_4}^{2-}$ 4-5, ${PO_4}^{3-}$ 1-4, $Cl^-$ $0.3-0.5meq{\cdot}L^{-1}$와 같았다. 교체 주기에 따른 이온 균형 변화는 크지 않았다. 그러나 전체 처리구에서 이온 비율의 변화는 일정한 경향을 나타냈다. 양이온 비율 변화는 $K^+$ : $Ca^{2+}$을 중심으로 나타났으며, 음이온은 ${SO_4}^{2-}$ : ${PO_4}^{3-}$를 중심으로 나타났다. 양액 중의 $K^+$, $NO_3{^-}$, $H_2PO_4{^-}$의 1가 이온과 $Ca^{2+}$, $Mg^{2+}$, ${SO_4}^{2-}$의 2가 이온의 활동도 계수는 각각 0.8-0.9, 0.5-0.6 사이에서 변하였고, 시간 경과와 함께 각 이온의 활동도 계수는 일정한 경향을 나타냈다. 각 이온이 양액의 EC에 기여한 비율은 $K^+$$NO_3{^-}$가 가장 컸고, 다음으로 $Ca^{2+}$, ${SO_4}^{2-}$, $Mg^{2+}$ 순으로 나타났다. 본 실험에 적용한 교체 주기 4주는 초기 생육단계의 파프리카를 EC 기준 순환식으로 수경재배 할 경우, 이온 농도 변화와 이에 따른 EC 기여도의 변화는 안정적인 범위 이내라고 판단된다.

블루베리 양액재배시 공급량 및 공급횟수가 수체생육 및 과실품질에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Supplying Volume and Frequency of Nutrient Solution on Growth and Fruit Quality of Blueberry)

  • 블루베리는 호산성 식물로 피트모스를 활용한 상토에서 잘 자라며 관목인 점을 고려하여 용기재배를 많이 하고 있고 또한 고령화에 대비해 생력적으로 생산할 수 있는 재배기술 개발이 요구되고 있다. 본 시험에서는 블루베리 양액재배시 공급량 및 공급횟수가 수체생육과 과실품질에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 수행하였다. 시험방법은 3년생 '듀크' 품종을 대상으로 피트모스와 펄라이트의 용량을 각각 130L, 40L(v/v)로 하여 용기($60{\times}80{\times}40cm$)에 식재하고 톱밥으로 멀칭한 후 2015년과 2016년에 양액 공급량을 4L와 8L로 나누어 4월 중순부터 7월 하순까지 1회, 2회, 3회 공급하여 수체생육 및 과실품질을 조사하였다. 양액은 $NO_3-N$ 4.6, $NH_4-N$ 3.4, $PO_4-P$ 3.3, K3, Ca 4.6, Mg $2.2mmol{\cdot}L^{-1}$를 주당 공급하였다. 채소에서 양액재배시 적정 배액율은 20~30%로 알려져 있는데 본 시험에서 평균 배액량은 4L 2회/7일 처리가 27%, 4L 3회/7일 처리가 29%로 다른 처리에 비해 적당하였다. 블루베리의 생육을 보면, 생육후반 8L/3회/7일 처리에서 신초장은 31cm, 신초경은 4.2mm로 가장 컸지만 질소를 많이 줄수록 도장하는 경향이었다. 배액의 무기성분 함량은 생육초반에 질소를 많이 흡수하는 경향이었고, 처리별 과실특성은 과립중, 가용성 고형물 함량 및 산함량 등은 처리간 유의차가 없었으며, 수량은 4L 3회/7일 처리가 주당 2.7kg으로 가장 많았고, 4L 1회/7일 처리가 1.4kg로 가장 작았다. 따라서 배액량, 수량, 수체 및 과실생육 등을 감안해볼 때 블루베리 양액재배시 조금씩 자주 공급한 처리 즉 4L 3회/7일 처리로 공급하는 것이 적당한 것으로 판단되었다.

Modifications of nutrient regime, chlorophyll-a, and trophic state relations in Daechung Reservoir after the construction of an upper dam

  • Background: Previous numerous studies on watershed scale demonstrated that the constructions of upper dams may influence the below dams due to modifications of flow regime and nutrient inputs. Little is known about how the dam constructions influence the downstream lakes or reservoirs in the regional scale. This study demonstrates how the construction of upper dam (i.e., Yongdam Dam) influences nutrient regime, trophic relations, and empirical models in Daechung Reservoir (DR). Yongdam Dam was constructed at the upstream region of DR in year 2000. Results: The analysis of hydrological variables showed that inflow and discharge in the DR were largely reduced after the year 2000. The construction of upper dam construction also resulted in increases of water temperature, pH and conductivity (as an indicator of ionic content) in the DR. Empirical models of TP-CHL and N:P ratio-CHL suggested that stronger responses of CHL to the phosphorus were evident after the upper dam construction, indicating that algal production at a unit phosphorus increased after the upper dam construction. Mann-Kendall tests on the relations of N:P ratios to TN showed weak or no relations ($t_{au}=-0.143$, z = -0.371, p = 0.7105) before the dam construction, while the relation of N:P ratios to TP showed strong in the periods of before- ($t_{au}=-0714$, z = -2.351, p = 0.0187) and after the construction ($t_{au}=-0.868$, z = -4.270, p = 0.0000). This outcome indicates that TP is key determinant on N:P ratios in the reservoir. Scatter Plots on Trophic State Index Deviations (TSIDs) of "TSI(SD) - TSI(CHL)" against "TSI(TP) - TSI(CHL)" showed that the dominance of clay turbidity or light limitation was evident before the upper dam construction [TSI(TP) - TSI(CHL) > 0 and TSI(SD) - TSI(CHL) > 0] and phosphorus limitation became stronger after the dam construction [(TSI(TP) - TSI(CHL) < 0 and TSI(SD) - TSI(CHL) > 0]. Conclusions: Overall, our analysis suggests that the upper dam construction modified the response of trophic components (phytoplankton) to the nutrients or nutrient ratios through the alteration of flow regime, resulting in modifications of ecological functions and trophic relations in the low trophic levels.

유아의 우유군의 섭취가 식이의 다양성과 영양소 섭취의 적정도에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Milk Group Intake to Dietary Diversity Score and Nutrient Adequacy Ratio among Toddler)

  • This research was conduced to 1) examine the influence of milk group intake on the dietary, considering dietary diversity and nutrient adequacy, 2) identify which foods truly contribute to the intake of specific nutrients 3) point out the dietary problems of this age group. The subjects were 664(male 357, female 307) healthy toddlers of the ages of 12-36 months, who had neither been taking any medicine-type supplements nor had any diseases that affect the dietary intakes, chosen among the outpatients of university and private hospitals in Seoul and Kyonggi province during Mach-August, 1999. The 24 hour recall method and CAN Pro(food analysis program) were used to analyze the amount of nutrient intake. The grouping of the subjects for the analysis by monthly age was based on the 98 Korean Child growth standard. The results that the milk group intake showed significant negative correlations with the grain group(r=-0.194, p<0.01), the vegetable group(r=-0.115, p<0.01) and the fruit group(r=-0.125, p<0.01). It also showed that the more the milk group intake, the lower the Dietary Diversity Score(r=-0.131, p<0.01), and the more the intake of raw milk, the more dificient the intake of iron(r=-0.211, p<0.01), vitamin A(r=-0.169,p<0.01), vitamin B$_1$(r=-0.078, p<0.05) and vitamin C(r=-0.187, p<0.01). Foods contributory to nutrient intake for of 12-14 months of were mostly infant formula, and the contribution ratio was high. In the age of 15-17 months, the subjects obtained most of the nutrients from raw milk., liquid-type yoghurt, soybean milk, cooked rice, etc. As for iron intake, the age of 21-23 month obtained the most from ionic drinks, and 24-29 months from raw milk, chocolate cakes, ionic drinks, etc. Though the NAR(Nutrient Adequacy Ratio) and MAR(Mean Adequacy Ratio) generally tended to increase accordingly with the DDs, as for nutrients Ca, vitamin A, vitamin B$_1$, and vitamin C the NAR marked the highest when the DDS marked the lowest(due to infant formula). And for iron, even when the DDS was 5 the NAR value was low. Im conclusion, the more the milk group intake, the lower was the dietary diversity. High dependency on infant formula and others from milk group over the age of 12 months proved to result in a decrease of nutritious solid food intake, iron deficiency and a low dietary diversity score, which can lead to an unbalanced diet. Therefore, nutrition education towards mothers/caretakers of toddler is of urgent need, in order to reduce the fluid milk group intake of low nutritional density and to provide various solid foods the children. 미생물에 의한 자귀나무·참싸리·비수리 종자의 발아촉진 (The Increase of Seeds Germination in Albizzia julibrissin, Lespedeza cyrtobotrya and Lespedeza cuneata by Microbial Treatment)

  • Herbs and plants widely used for the ecological restoration were selected for germination rate analysis under treatment of microorganisms to determine ideal treatment conditions and medium for enhanced germination rate. Albizzia julibrissin, when submerged in a nutrient medium or distilled water, presented a decrease in germination period rather than increase in germination rate. When treated with microorganism culture solution (JM-2) for 24 hours, 90% germination was achieved in two days, which is sufficient evidence to conclude that such treatment accelerates the germination of Albizzia julibrissin. Germination period decreased for Lespedeza cyrtobotrya samples submerged in microorganism solution for 15 and 48 hours, however, increases in germination rates were not observed. Sample treated in the solution for 24 hours had increased germination rate and enhanced germination period. Microorganism solution treatment had a negative effect on germination for Lespedeza cuneata, unlike Lespedeza cyrtobotrya and Albizzia julibrissin. Microorganism treated seeds of Lepsedeza cuneata had a lower germination rate than that of the control with no treatment.
