Numerical calculation has been performed to investigate the fluid flow, heat transfer and local mass fraction of chemical species in the MOCVD(metalorganic chemical vapor deposition) manufacturing process. The mixing of reactants (trimethylgallium with hydrogen gas and ammonia) was presented by the concentration of each reactant to predict the uniformity of film growth. Effects of inlet size, location, mass flow rate and susceptor/cold wall tilt angle on the concentration were reported. From the numerical calculation, the concentration of reactants could be qualitatively predicted by the Nusselt number(heat transfer) and the optimum mass flow rate, wall tilt angle and inlet condition were considered.

Measurement of average of heat transfer and friction coefficients were obtained with air flowing through electrically heated ducts having square, rectangular(aspect ration, 5), and triangular cross section for range of surface temperature from $540^{\circ}$to $1780^{\circ}$ R and Reynolds number from 1000 to 330,000. The results indicates that the effect of heat flux on correlations of the average heat transfer and friction coefficients is similar to that obtained for circular tubes in previous investigation and was nearly eliminated by evaluating the physical properties and density of the air a film temperature halfway between the average surface and fluid bulk temperatures, With the Nusselt and Reynolds numbers on the hydraulic diameter of the ducts, the data for the noncircular ducts could be represented by the same equations obtained in the previous investigation for circular tubes. Correlation of the average difference between the surface corner and midwall temperatures for the square duct was in agreement with predicted values from a previous analysis. However, for the rectangular and triangular ducts, the measured corner temperature was greater by approximately 20 and 35 percent, respectively, than the values predicted by analysis.

A transient liquid crystal technique has become one of the most effective ways in measuring the local heat transfer coefficients on the entire surface. The key Point of this technique is to convert the inlet flow temperature into an exponential temperature profile using a mesh heater. In order to verify the validity of this technique. the heat transfer characteristics on the wall surface by a pair of longitudinal vortices is investigated experimently and numerically. A standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ is used for the numerical analysis of turbulent flow field. It is found from experiment and numerical analysis that two peak values exist over the whole domain. as the longitudinal vortices move to the farther downstream. these peak values decrease and the dimensionless averaged Nusselt number with the lapse of time is maintained nearly at constant values. The experiment results obtained from the present experiment in terms of the transient liquid crystal technique are in good agreement with the numerical results. Therefore, the transient liquid crystal technique developed for the measurement of heat transfer coefficient is proved to be a valid method.

The convective heat transfer on the outer surface of tube arrays perpendicular to the flow direction was experimentally investigated. The test sections which include the aligned and staggered arrangements were made and the local heat transfer coefficients on the outer surface of the tube were measured after the flow has been fully developed. The results showed that the local heat transfer coefficients of the staggered arrangement, which has transverse pitch of 0.075 m and longitudinal pitch of 0.08 m, were about 15% greater than that of the aligned arrangement. Also, the overall mean Nusselt number of the former was greater than that of the latter. It is verified that the results obtained by using the simulation show the same tendency with those of experiment.
The present study numerically investigates the natural convection heat transfer in a 2-D square cavity containing a centered heat conducting body. Special emphasis is given to the influences of the Rayleigh number, the dimensionless conducting body size, and the ratio of the thermal diffusivity of the body to that of the fluid on the natural convection heat transfer in overall concerned region. The analysis reveals that the fluid flow and heat transfer processes are governed by all of them. Results for isotherms, vector plots and wall Nusselt numbers are reported for Pr = 0.71 and relatively wide ranges of the other parameters. Heat transfer across the cavity, in comparison to that in the absence of a body, are enhanced (reduced) in general by a body with a thermal diffusivity ratio less (greater) than unity. It is also found that the heat transfer attains a minimum as the body size is increased with a thermal diffusivity ratio greater than unity.
This study conducts shape optimization of rib turbulator on the internal cooling passage that has triangular cross-section of high pressure turbine nozzle. During optimization, various types of rib turbulator including angled, V-shaped, A-shaped and angled rib with intersecting rib are considered. Each type of rib turbulator is parameterized with attack angle(s), rib height, spacing ratio and bending/intersecting location. For optimization, Design of Experiment (DOE) and Kriging surrogate model are used to utilize computational resource more efficiently and Genetic Algorithm (GA) is used to search the optimum points. As a result, Pareto front of each type of rib turbulator with friction factor that relates to pressure drop in cooling passage and spatially averaged Nusselt number that relates to heat transfer on the wall is drawn and optimum points on the Pareto front are suggested.
This paper reports briefly on the computational results of a turbulent Rayleigh-Benard convection with the elliptic-blending second-moment closure (EBM). The primary emphasis of the study is placed on an investigation of accuracy and numerical stability of the elliptic-blending second-moment closure for the turbulent Rayleigh-Benard convection. The turbulent heat fluxes in this study are treated by the algebraic flux model with the temperature variance and molecular dissipation rate of turbulent heat flux. The model is applied to the prediction of the turbulent Rayleigh-Benard convection for Rayleigh numbers ranging from Ra=$2{\times}10^6$ to Ra=$10^9$ and the computed results are compared with the previous experimental correlations, T-RANS and LES results. The predicted cell-averaged Nusselt number follows the correlation by Peng et al.(2006) (Nu=$0.162Ra^{0.286}$) in the 'soft' convective turbulence region ($2{\times}10^6{\leq}Ra{\leq}4{\times}10^7$) and it follows the experimental correlation by Niemela et al. (2000) (N=$0.124Ra^{0.309}$) in the 'hard' convective turbulence region ($10^8{\leq}Ra{\leq}10^9$) within 5% accuracy. This results show that the elliptic-blending second-moment closure with an algebraic flux model predicts very accurately the Rayleigh-Benard convection.
The present study is to investigates the convective heat transfer characteristics and pressure drop inside the rib-roughened cooling passage of gas turbine blades. The divergent rectangular channel is fabricated with V-shaped ribs on one wall only and the inlet hydraulic diameter to outlet hydraulic diameter ratio($D_{ho}/D_{hi}$) of 1.49 is used. The current investigation has covered a Reynolds number (Re) range of 22,000~75,000, relative roughness height ($e/D_h$) of 0.1~0.2, and rib angle of attack (a) of $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, and $60^{\circ}$ for a fixed relative pitch of 10. Results show that the Nusselt numbers are the greatest in the $60^{\circ}$-angled ribs; however, the total friction factors are the highest in the $30^{\circ}$-angled ribs.
The natural convection heat transfer and solidification in a stratified pool are studied. The flow and heat transfer characteristics in a heat generating pool are compared between single-layered and double-layered pools. And local Nusselt number distributions on outer walls are obtained to consider thermal loads on a vessel wall. The cooling and solidification of Al₂O₃/Fe melt in a hemispherical vessel are simulated to study the mechanism of heat transfer and temperature distribution. A unstructured mesh is chosen for this study because of the non-orthogonality originated from the boundaries of double-layered pool. Interface between the layers is modeled to be fixed. With this assumption mass flux across the interface is neglected, but shear force and heat flux are considered by boundary conditions. The colocated cell-centered finite volume method is used with the Rhie-Chow interpolation to compute cell face velocity. To prevent non-physical solutions near walls in case body force is large the wall pressure is extrapolated by the way to include body force. The numerical solutions calculated by current method show that averaged downward heat flux of the double-layered pool increases compared to single-layered pool and maximum temperature occurs right below the interface of the layers.

In this paper, the experimental results of condensation heat transfer were reported for the plate and shell heat exchangers(P&SHE) using R-l34a. An experimental refrigerant loop has been established to measure the condensation heat transfer coefficient of R-l34a in a vertical P&SHE. Two vertical counter flow channels were formed in the P&SHE by three plates of geometry with a corrugated trapezoid shape of a chevron angle of 45$^{\circ}$. Downflow of the condensing R-l34a in one channel releases heat to the cold up flow of water in the other channel. The effect of the refrigerant mass flux, average heat flux, system pressure and vapor quality of R-l34a on the measured data were explored in detail. The results indicate that at a higher vapor quality the condensation heat transfer coefficients are significantly higher. Condensation heat transfer coefficients were increased when the refrigerant mass flux was increased. A rise in the average heat flux causes an slight increase in the hr. Finally, at a higher system pressure the hr is found to be lower. Correlation is also provided for the measured heat transfer coefficients in terms of the Nusselt number.
