간호학생을 위한 웹기반 VRE 감염관리 교육프로그램의 개발 및 효과 (Development and Evaluation of a Web-based Education Program for Nursing Students on Control of Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus Infection)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a web-based education program on control vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) infections and to identify the effects of the program on knowledge and performance of nursing students. Methods: The web-based VRE infection control education program was developed by using the network-based instructional systems design model. The nursing students in the experimental group could access this web-based education program at any time, and as many times as they wanted, during the clinical training period. Effects were evaluated by assessing knowledge and performance of VRE infection control measures during the clinical training period. Results: The contents of the education program included diagnosis, transmission, and treatment of VRE, contact precautions, hand washing, personal protective equipment, environment management, and quizzes. The lecture portion was filmed in a virtual screen studio using flash animation, video, and sound effects, and it was uploaded on an internet site. The knowledge and performance scores of the experimental group after using the education program were significantly higher than those of the control group. Conclusion: The results suggest that the web-based VRE infection control education program is an effective educational method to enhance knowledge and performance of VRE infection control measures.

간호사가 인지하는 병원 간호조직의 핵심성공요인 (The Critical Success Factors of Nursing Organizations Perceived by Nurses in a Hospital)

  • Purpose: This study was designed to describe the Critical Success Factors (CSF) of nursing organization perceived by hospital nurses. Method: Data was collected from 12 nurses who were working in the university affiliated medical center in Seoul using interview. To analyze data, content analysis was done. Results: The Critical Success Factors (CSF) of nursing organizations perceived by hospital nurses was classified into 5 categories. The 5 categories (the expectation of nurses' clients, The awareness economic value that nurses perform work, efficient nurses' work process, attractive nurses' work conditions, nurses' grow into professional) include 21 themes and 53 significant statements. Conclusions: The result of this study may be helpful in the strategic performance management of nursing organizations.

아동병동 간호사와 입원아동 어머니가 인식한 간호의 질 비교 (Comparison of the Quality of Nursing Care as Perceived by Pediatric Nurses and Mothers of Hospitalized Children)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to compare the quality of nursing care as perceived by registered nurses and mothers of hospitalized children in South Korea. Methods: This was a descriptive study that recruited 70 mothers of hospitalized children and 70 nurses in pediatric units in university hospitals as participants. The quality of pediatric nursing care was measured using importance and performance scores for 19 items describing various elements of nursing care. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the independent t-test. Results: The hospitalized children mothers'mean importance scores were significantly higher than those of the nurses (t=2.94, p=.004). However, there were no significant differences in the mean performance scores of nurses and mothers (t=0.91, p=.363) or between nurses'and mothers'perceptions of quality of nursing care, with the exception of a significant difference for the quality of explanations (t=2.78, p=.006). The quality of explanations was assessed more positively by nurses than by mothers. Conclusion: This study suggests that when developing strategies to improve the quality of nursing care in pediatric wards, ensuring that pediatric nurses provide detailed explanations should be considered as a way to improve the quality of nursing care in pediatric units.

간호근무환경과 간호결과와의 관련성 및 간호사 업무 부담에 대한 내용분석 (The Relationship of the Nursing Work Environment and Nursing Outcome among it's Nurses and Content Analysis of Nurses' Workload)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between nursing work environment and nursing outcome of clinical nurses. Also, the purpose of this study was to identify the nurses' workload. Method: The participants in this study were 246 nurses working at one hospital in a province. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire from October 2011 to November 2011. Open questions were subject to content analysis; closed questions were subject to descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation coefficient with SPSS 18.0 program were used. Result: The number of patients per nurse in day-duty and overtime work had a positive correlation. Nursing performance and the overtime work in night duty nurses had a negative correlation. The results of this study, with a much higher number of patients per nurse, showed an increase in overtime hours. In the nursing delivery system experience of nurses, 13 themes were identified and they were divided into five categories. Conclusion: Therefore, in order to improve nursing performance and increase job satisfaction, efforts must be made to reduce overtime, and nursing personnel placement to secure a substantial nursing staff.

시뮬레이션기반 응급간호교육을 받은 간호학생의 학업성취도와 자기효능감, 학습태도 및 수업만족도의 관계 (The Relationship among Learning Satisfaction, Learning Attitude, Self-efficacy and the Nursing Students' Academic Achievement after Simulation-based Education on Emergency Nursing Care)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a lesson plan related to a simulation for nursing students by understanding what relationship learning satisfaction, self-efficacy and learning attitude have after applying simulation-based education on emergency nursing care. Methods: Simulation practice, seminar, class and group self-study about a patient having a myocardial infarction were applied to nursing students for 5 weeks. After applying the simulation-based education on emergency nursing care, students rated their learning attitude, learning satisfaction and a sense of self-efficacy with a self-administered questionnaire and academic achievement was divided into written and performance evaluation. SPSS/WIN 17.0 was used for descriptive analysis, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA and pearson correlation were also used. Results: In this study, the performance evaluation score was related to learning attitude (r=.210, p=.018).Learning satisfaction (r=.220, p=.013)and written evaluation score was related to learning attitude (r=.211, p=.017) and learning satisfaction (r=.190, p=.032). Conclusion: In this study, simulation-based learning was a useful method for practical ability and this is good to acquire both of knowledge and technique. Not only evaluation of theoretical knowledge but performance ability related to practice has to be done by developing lessons with various methods and content. In addition, a standard evaluation method needs to be developed.

학제간 의사소통을 포함한 시뮬레이션 교육이 간호대학생의 의사소통 자신감, 의사소통 행위, 기술적 술기 수행에 미치는 효과 (Effects of Simulated Interdisciplinary Communication Training for Nursing Students on Self-confidence in Communication, Communication Behavior and Technical Skill Performance)

  • Purpose: Ineffective communication between healthcare professionals leads to medical errors and puts patients at risk of harm. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of interdisciplinary communication training in simulated settings on self-confidence in communication, observed communication behavior, and technical skill performances of nursing students. Methods: A repeated measures design with one group was conducted. Data was collected from 92 nursing students through a self-administered questionnaire and an observed behavior checklist. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, a paired t-test, the Wilcoxon signed rank test, the Friedmann test, a Repeated Measures ANOVA, and the Spearman correlation coefficient. Results: Self-confidence in communication, observed Identification-Situation-Background-Assessment-Recommendation-Read Back communication behavior, and technical skill performances of nursing students were significantly improved. In observed communication behavior, the performance of Assessment and Read Back communication significantly improved. However, communication of Background, Assessment, and Recommendation did not improve to a satisfactory level. Observed communication behavior was not correlated with the overall technical skill performance. Conclusion: These results indicate that interdisciplinary communication training in simulated settings was effective in improving nursing students' confidence and communication skills with physicians. Longitudinal studies with larger samples are recommended in order to verify the effects of interdisciplinary communication training on clinical outcomes as well as communication competence.

상호동료 교수학습 기반의 기본간호학실습 교육이 간호대학생의 핵심간호술 수행자신감, 숙련도 및 실습만족도에 미치는 효과 (Effects of Fundamental Nursing Practice Education Applying Reciprocal Peer Tutoring on Confidence in Performance, Core Nursing Skills, and Practice Satisfaction of Nursing Students)

  • 본 연구는 상호동료 교수학습법을 기본간호학실습 교육에 적용하여 간호대학생의 핵심간호술 수행자신감, 숙련도 및 실습만족도에 미치는 효과를 규명하기 위한 비동등성 대조군 전·후 유사실험연구이다. 자료수집은 P 대학교 간호학과 2학년 학생 83명으로, 연구기간은 2019년 3월 11일부터 5월 17일까지이다. 연구결과 상호동료 교수학습법을 적용한 실험군은 수술전간호, 개인위생, 수술후간호의 핵심간호술 수행자신감과 수술전간호, 수술후간호의 숙련도가 대조군에 비해 유의하게 향상되었고, 실험군의 실습만족도가 대조군보다 높게 나타났다. 결과적으로 상호동료 교수학습법을 적용한 기본간호학실습 교육은 난이도 '중' 정도의 핵심간호술의 수행자신감과 숙련도에 효과가 있으며 실습만족도에 긍정적인 효과가 있었다. 이에 상호동료 교수학습법을 다양한 실습교과에 확대 적용하고 핵심기본간호술의 난이도에 따른 효과를 검정하는 연구를 제언한다.

간호단위 관리자의 변혁적 리더십 결과변인에 관한 메타경로분석 (A Meta-Analytic Path Analysis on the Outcome Variables of Nursing Unit Managers' Transformational Leadership: Systemic Review and Meta-Analysis)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the outcome variables of nursing unit managers' transformational leadership and to test a hypothetical model using meta-analytic path analysis. Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. Data analysis, conducted using R version 3.6.2 software, included 49 studies for the meta-analysis and 119 studies for meta-analytic path analysis. Results: In the meta-analysis, four out of 32 outcome variables were selected. These four variables were empowerment, nursing performance, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment, which showed larger effect sizes than the median and more than five k. The hypothetical model for the meta-analytic path analysis was established by using these four variables and transformational leadership. A total of 22 hypothetical paths including nine direct effects and 13 indirect effects were set and tested. The meta-analytic path analysis showed that transformational leadership had direct effects on the four variables. Finally, eight direct effects, 12 indirect effects, and six mediating effects were statistically significant, and the hypothetical model was verified. Conclusion: Nursing unit managers can use the transformational leadership to improve empowerment, nursing performance, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment of nurses. This study empirically showed the importance of transformational leadership of nursing managers. This finding will be used as evidence to develop strategies for enhancing transformational leadership, empowerment, nursing performance, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment in nursing science and practice.

신생아집중치료실 간호사의 상대적 간호업무효율성 분석 (Analysis of Relative Job Performance Efficiency of Nurses in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the job performance efficiency of nurses in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) by using the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). Additionally, the study aimed to provide a detailed method to improve the currently inefficient way in which nurses perform their jobs by differentiating the reference group of more efficient nurses, and to compare the characteristics of the more efficient group of nurses to those of the less efficient group of nurses. Methodology: This study evaluated the relative job performance efficiency of nurses by applying DEA to 43 nurses in the NICU. The input variables for the efficiency analysis were working career (years), time spent in direct nursing care (hours), overtime (hours), and job-related training (hours); the output variables were the job performance scores of professional practice, research, leadership, and education. Data were analyzed using SPSS IBM 23.0 and Open Source DEA (OSDEA). Findings: The relative job performance efficiency of the 43 nurses was 0.933, and 20 nurses were evaluated as more efficient. In addition, the study confirmed the possibility of improving the overall job performance efficiency by improving leadership, while controlling the current input variables. Lastly, the more efficient nurses had significantly higher job performance scores for research (t=2.028, p=0.049), leadership (t=2.036, p=0.048), and education (t=2995, p=0.005) than those who were less efficient. Practical Implications: It is suggested that job performance be evaluated using DEA to improve the overall job performance efficiency of NICU nurses. The analysis results from DEA for nurses becomes evidence in support of establishing individualized goals for each nurse, thus resulting in a foundation for systematic human resource management of nurses, and ultimately contributing to increase in the job performance efficiency of nurses.

수술실 간호사의 안전분위기와 피로 수준이 안전이행에 미치는 영향 (The Impact of Safety Climate and Fatigue on Safety Performance of Operating Room Nurses)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to evaluate the level of safety climate, fatigue, and safety performance and to identify the impact of safety climate and fatigue on the safety performance of operating room nurses. Methods: The study design was a descriptive survey. Participants were 174 operating room nurses from two general hospitals and two university hospitals in S and D cities. Three structurally designed questionnaires were used to evaluate their safety climate, fatigue, and safety performance. Collected data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, t-tests, ANOVAs, Pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: Safety performance of operating room nurses had a mean of 3.26 on a 5-point scale. 'Current department career'(${\beta}=.17$, p=.006) and 'safety climate (work-unit contribution) (${\beta}=.63$, p<.001) accounted for 39% of the variance in operating room nurses' safety performance. Conclusion: Findings indicate that work-unit contribution towards safety climate is an important factor in increasing operating room nurses' safety performance. Therefore, it is essential to find motivational properties consistent with the characteristics of the operating room environment.
