  • In this study, the modeling of the transverse connection of fully precast steel-UHPC (Ultra-High-Performance Concrete) lightweight composite bridges were conducted. The transverse connection between precast components plays a critical role in the overall performance and safety of the bridge. To achieve an accurate and reliable simulation of the interface behavior, the cohesive model in ABAQUS was employed, considering both bending-tension and compression-shear behaviors. The parameters of the cohesive model are obtained through interface bending and oblique shear tests on UHPC samples with different surface roughness. By validating the numerical simulation against actual joint tests, the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed model in capturing the interface behavior of the fully precast steel-UHPC lightweight composite bridge were demonstrated.

  • Predicting fracture properties requires an understanding of structural failure behaviour in relation to specimen type, dimension, and notch length. Facture properties are evaluated using various testing methods, wedge splitting test being one of them. The wedge splitting test was numerically modelled three dimensionally using the finite element method on self compacting concrete specimens with varied specimen and notch depths in the current work. The load - Crack mouth opening displacement curves and the angle of rotation with respect to notch opening till failure are used to assess the fracture properties. Furthermore, based on the simulation results, failure curve was built to forecast the fracture behaviour of self-compacting concrete. The fracture failure curve revealed that the failure was quasi-brittle in character, conforming to non-linear elastic properties for all specimen depth and notch depth combinations.

  • Significant progress has been achieved in the active control of civil-engineering structures, not only in the control algorithm, but also in control testing of the scaled model and full-scale building. At the present time, most algorithms used in the active control of civil engineering structures are based on the various active control techniques. In this paper represents active control method, by using pole assignment for reducing structural vibration under excited load. Numerical simulations are performed to assess the effectiveness of pole assignment control system. The relative displacement of structure system is significantly reduced.

  • Car body resonance often generates severe vibrational and noise problems in vehicle compartment. In this study, vibrational characteristics of 2-D vehicle compartment model is investigated and structural modification is carried out by numerical simulation to shift natural frequencies and to reduce stresses in resonance. To this end, ring models of the compartment are manufactured and analysed by FEA. The results are verified to be in good agreement with those of experimental modal testing. And the results of this study offer efficient strucural modification technique for vibration reduction of real cars.

  • The existence and exact location of cavity is very important for the stability of the large underground storage house or building. Numerical method such as finite element method and finite diference methods are widely used because of model's complexity. Preliminary tests such as calculation step test, mesh size test and model size test were tried. Upper shadow zone and lower shadow zone can be calculated from 50% amplitude level of measuring data. From these statistical methods, the calculatied position of cavity coincided nearly with actual position of model testing cavity.

  • In this paper, we consider multiple comparisons for the ratio of the failure rates in two components system that the lifetimes of the components have independent exponential distributions. Also we suggest Bayesian multiple comparisons procedure based on fractional Bayes factor when noninformative priors are applied for the parameters. Finally, we give numerical examples to illustrate our procedure.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a new proportional pressure reducing valve and to verify the validity of a new mechanism with pressure control pin. The dynamic characteristics of the object pressure reducing valve was studied by numerical analysis of the mathematical model. Also, static and dynamic characteristics of the new pressure control valve were tested with a testing system based on the test standard.

  • In this paper, we generalize the software reliability growth model by assuming that the testing cost and maintenance cost are random and adopt the Bayesian approach to determine the optimal software release time. Numerical examples are provided to illustrate the Bayesian method for certain parametric models.

  • The influence of observations is investigated in fitting proportional covariance matrices model. Local influence measures are obtained when all parameters or subsets of the parameters are of interest. We will also derive the local influence measure for investigating the influence of observations in testing the proportionality of covariance matrices. A numerical example is given for illustration.

  • A design of reliability qualification test based on performance distribution is developed. In general, the performance of an item degrades as the time goes by and the failure of an item occurs when the performance degradation reaches the pre-determined critical level. This article considers the reliability qualification test based on a more tightened critical value at the earlier stage to reduce the evaluation testing time and cost. A numerical example is provided to illustrate how to use the developed reliability qualification test.
