The Horizon Run 4 is a cosmological N-body simulation designed for the study of coupled evolution between galaxies and large-scale structures of the Universe, and for the test of galaxy formation models. Using 63003 gravitating particles in a cubic box of Lbox = 3150 h−1Mpc, we build a dense forest of halo merger trees to trace the halo merger history with a halo mass resolution scale down to Ms = 2.7 × 1011h−1M⊙. We build a set of particle and halo data, which can serve as testbeds for comparison of cosmological models and gravitational theories with observations. We find that the FoF halo mass function shows a substantial deviation from the universal form with tangible redshift evolution of amplitude and shape. At higher redshifts, the amplitude of the mass function is lower, and the functional form is shifted toward larger values of ln(1/σ). We also find that the baryonic acoustic oscillation feature in the two-point correlation function of mock galaxies becomes broader with a peak position moving to smaller scales and the peak amplitude decreasing for increasing directional cosine μ compared to the linear predictions. From the halo merger trees built from halo data at 75 redshifts, we measure the half-mass epoch of halos and find that less massive halos tend to reach half of their current mass at higher redshifts. Simulation outputs including snapshot data, past lightcone space data, and halo merger data are available at http://sdss.kias.re.kr/astro/Horizon-Run4.
To develop the optimal design method for the longline type scallop culturing facilities in the open sea numerical calculations and hydraulic model experiments are carried out for the stability and function optimization. Using the results for the motion and tension of the facilities, stable design concepts and effects of motion control system by vertical anchor and resistance discs art discussed. The results of this study that can be applied to the design are as follows: 1) Total external forces by design wave $(H_{1/3}\;=\;6,7\;m,\;T_{1/3}\;=\;12sec)$ at the coastal waters of Jumunjin for unit facility (one main line) are estimated to 5-20 tons, and required anchor weights are 10-40 tons in the case of 2-point mooring system. Though the present facilities are stable to steady currents, but is unstable to the extreme wave condition of return period of 10 years. 2) The dimensions and depth of array systems must be designed considering the ecological environments as well as the physical characteristics including the mooring and holding forces that are proportional to the length and relative depth of main line to wave length, and the number of buoys and nets. 3) Oscillation of the facility is influenced by water particle motion and the weight of hanging net, and is excited at both edge, especially at the lee side. To reduce the motion of the nets, the vertical anchoring system and the resistence disc method are recommended by the experimental results, 4) The damage of rope near the anchor by abrasion should be prevented using the ring-type connection parts or anchor chains.
A capillary action-induced tension develops in the tear layer between the contact lens and cornea, which leads to the restoring force due to difference in the layer thickness between either upper and lower or left and right side of the lens when it is displaced off the equilibrium position as a result of blinking. Suppose the lens was displaced a certain distance from the equilibrium position, lens starts to oscillate toward the equilibrium position with the decreasing amplitude due to the restoring force as well as the velocity dependent viscous damping force in the tear layer. A mathematical model which consists of the differential equations and their numerical solution was proposed to analyze the damped oscillations of lenses. The model predicts the time dependence of lenses after the blink varying the various parameters such as Be, diameters, masses and positions displaced from equilibrium. As the Be and mass of lens increases the rate of amplitude reduction decreases, which requires a more time for the lens to return to the equilibrium position. It seems that varying the lens' displacement and diameters affect the lens' motion very little.

In this study, a three-dimensional finite-element analysis code has been developed to predict acoustic behaviors in rocket combustion chambers and to quantitatively evaluate acoustic stability margins for various designs with passive stabilization devices such as baffle and acoustic resonators. As a validation case, computations are made for combustion chambers with/without a hub-and-six-blade baffle which are developed in the KSR-III Development Program. Compared with experimental results from ambient acoustic test, the numerical approach reasonably well predicts acoustic pressure responses to acoustic oscillation excitation for both unbaffled and baffled combustion chambers and yields quantitatively good agreement for acoustic damping effects of baffle installation in terms of damping factor ratio and resonant frequency shift.
In this study, the upwind McCormack scheme is introduced to combine the advantage of McCormack scheme, the second order accuracy and simplicity, and the advantage of the upwind scheme, to be applied to the discontinuous flows. This scheme also has another advantage of treating the source terms effectively. This model is approved through applying to the discontinuous flow case with the analytical solution, and the natural river with very strong source terms. Applications of the upwind McCormack scheme developed in this paper show good agreements with the analytical solution without numerical oscillation in existing McCormack scheme. Futhermore, applications to the natural river, the lower Han river with strong variation of bed and width, also show good results in case of both steady flow and unsteady flow. The upwind McCormack scheme in this study will be used for the analysis of flow in natural rivers effectively.

off-design conditions, supersonic air inlets often encounter the problem of aerodynamic instability, called inlet buzz, which causes the significant degradation of the engine performance. An experimental and numerical study was conducted to investigate the phenomenon of supersonic inlet buzz on a generic, axisymmetric, external-compression inlet with a single-surface center-body. It is understood the mechanism of buzz onset as proving that the origin of buzz is the flow choking induced by separation at the intake throat. Also it is observed the intermittent and continuous buzz mode as area ratio varies and understood the transition process through this study. The buzz frequency become to be higher as decreasing the area ratio, but for each area ratio, the frequency of pressure oscillation is the same at all points of intake.

This paper suggests a design method of an improved phase control loop for tracking resonant frequency of solid type precision resonant gyroscope. In general, a low cost MEMS gyroscope adapts the automatic gain control loops by taking a velocity feedback configuration. This control technique for controlling the resonance amplitude shows a stable performance. But in terms of resonant frequency tracking, this technique shows an unreliable performance due to phase errors because the AGC method cannot provide an active phase control capability. For the resonance control loop design of a solid type precision resonant gyroscope, this paper presents a phase domain control loop based on linear PLL (Phase Locked Loop). In particular, phase control loop is exploited using a higher order PLL loop filter by extending the first order active PI (Proportion-Integral) filter. For the verification of the proposed loop design, a hemispherical resonant gyroscope is considered. Numerical simulation result demonstrates that the control loop shows a robust performance against initial resonant frequency gap between resonator and voltage control oscillator. Also it is verified that the designed loop achieves a stable oscillation even under the initial frequency gap condition of about 25 Hz, which amounts to about 1% of the natural frequency of a conventional resonant gyroscope.

CFD flow simulation of vehicles with open sunroof and passenger window help the automotive OEM(original equipment manufacturer) to identify the low frequency noise levels in the cabin. The lock-in and lock-off phenomena observed in the experimental studies of sunroof buffeting is well predicted by CFD speed sweep calculations over the operating speed range of the vehicle. The trend of the shear layer oscillation frequency with vehicle speed is also well predicted. The peak SPL from the CFD calculation has a good compromise with the experimental value after incorporating the real world effects into the CFD model by means of artificial compressibility and damping correction. The entire process right from modeling to flow analysis as well as acoustic analysis has been performed within the single environment i.e., STAR-CCM+.

In this study, the applicability of finite analytic method (FAM) is studied by selecting linearized-Burgers equation and Burgers equation which have convective and diffusive behaviors as the model equation of Navier-Stokes equations and by comparing numerical solution of finite difference method (FDM) and finite analytic method. The results are as follows. It is shown that the convergence of FAM for steady-state analytic solution of linearized-Burgers equation and Burgers equation is better than that of FDM under the same criteria. Also the accuracy of FAM for transient solution of Burgers equation is excellent. Especially, it is shown that oscillation phenomenon due to dispersion errors which occur according to the choice of grid size in FDM does not occur in FAM at all. So, it can be thought that FAM is numerically very stable scheme, which is free from dispersion errors.

Acoustic responses to pressure oscillations in axisymmetric combustion chamber are numerically investigated to examine the qualitative trend of acoustic instability in liquid rocket engine. Chamber operating condition and excitation frequency of oscillating pressure are selected as exciting parameters of acoustic instability. Artificial perturbation is simulated by total-pressure oscillation with sine wave at chamber inlet. Many approximations and simplifications are introduced without losing the essence of acoustic pressure response. First, steady-state solution for each operating condition is obtained and next, transient analysis is conducted. Depending on operating condition and excitation frequency, the distinct response characteristics are brought. Weak-strength flames and high-frequency excitation tend to cause sensitive acoustic pressure response leading to unstable pressure field. These results are analyzed based on the correlation with acoustic pressure responses from the previous works adopting laminar flamelet model.
