  • The screen printing has been widely used to form silver electrodes in solar cell device due to their simplicity of process. However, the wavy and irregular surface which is believed to be originated from a screen mask mesh and thixotropic characteristics of paste on screen printing process is well-known to give a negative effect on solar cell efficiency. The dispensing method that the silver paste is extruded through micro nozzle under a moderate pressure and coated on substrate can form the silver electrode without any wavy surface. In this study, we optimize the composition of silver paste and develop paste blending condition based on the thixotropic behavior of paste. The optimized paste shows a large thixotropic loop area which is related to an aspect ratio of electrode line and has the viscosity of 40 $Pa{\cdot}s$ at 40 s-1. The electrode line we finally obtainis 67.2 ${\mu}m$ in width and has an aspect ratio of 0.277.

  • The jet pump can be used in a test device of a nuclear reactor for high flow amplification as it reduces inlet flow requirement and thereby size of the process components. In the present work, a miniature jet pump was designed to meet high flow amplification greater than 3. Subsequently, experiments were carried out using a test setup for design validation and performance evaluation of the jet pump for different parameters. It was observed that a minimum pressure of 0.6 bar (g) was required for the secondary fluid inside the jet pump to ensure cavitation free performance at high amplification. Spacing between the nozzle tip and the mixing chamber entry point had significant effect on the performance of the jet pump. Variation in primary flow, temperature and area ratio also affected the performance. It was observed that at high flow amplification, the analytical solution differed significantly from experimental results due to very large velocities encountered in the miniature size jet pump.

  • Ejector system can induce the secondary flow or affect the secondary chamber pressure by both shear stress and pressure drop which are generated in the primary jet boundary. Ejectors are widely used in a range of applications such as a turbine-based combined-cycle propulsion system and a high altitude test facility for rocket engine, pressure recovery system, desalination plant and ejector ramjet etc. The primary interest of this study is to set up an design procedure on the configuration and operating condition of multi-ejector for the various high altitude simulation.

  • In this study, the pneumatic servo valve was developed, and the study results could be summarized as follows; 1. A servo solenoid was designed, and its electromagnetic field was interpreted and the system's transient response was identified by using a commercial analysis program. 2. A program for analysis the flow in the spool was developed, and a study was conducted on the flow rate of the nozzle depending upon the pressure ratio between the upstream pressure and the downstream pressure, when the valve is fully opened in the spool and the flow force depending upon a displacement of the spool in the valve. 3. A PWM analog controller was designed and manufactured in...

  • In this study, the flow characteristics according to the shape of the vortex nozzle was studied by numerical analysis and the amount of microbubble generation was measured experimentally. The shape of the vortex nozzle is cylindrical, diffuser, and conical type. The axial fluid velocity in the induced tube gradually increased from the inlet to the outlet. In particular, the fluid velocity in the nozzle part increased rapidly. The velocity distribution of the fluid at the inlet of the induced tube showed that the flow rotates counterclockwise in the outer region and the inner center of the induced tube. At the outlet of the induced tube, the cylindrical and conical type showed rotational flow, and the diffuser type showed irregular turbulent flow. The dimensionless pressure ratio 𝜂 of the inner region of the induced tube was lower than that of the outer region. Also, 𝜂 near the outlet of the induced tube in cylindrical and conical type showed a similar tendency to the inlet area. At the outer region of inlet of induced tube, intense vorticity was observed on the wall and in lower region. At the inner region of inlet of induced tube, intense vorticity was observed on the inner wall of the induced tube and in the central region of the inlet of the induced tube. At the outlet of induced tube, in the case of the cylindrical and conical type, intense vorticity was observed near the inner wall, the diffuser type showed irregular strong vorticity inside the tube. The total number of bubbles measured was the most in the cylindrical type, and the microbubbles less than 50mm occurred the most in the conical type.

  • Unlike most aerodynamic wind-tunnel, Scramjet Engine Test Facility(SETF) of Korea Aerospace Research Institute should simulate enthalpy condition at a flight condition. SETF is a blow-down type, high-enthalpy wind tunnel. To attain a flight condition, a highly stagnated air comes into the test cell through a supersonic nozzle. Also, an air ejector of the SETF is used for simulating altitude conditions of the engine, and facility starting. SETF has a free-jet type test cell and this free-jet type test cell can simulate a boundary layer effect between an airplane and engine using facility nozzle, but it is too difficult to predict the nature of the facility. Therefore it is required to understand the starting characteristics of the facility by experiments. In this paper, the starting characteristics of the SETF and modifications of the ejector are described.

  • Jet cutting technology currently makes use of a generic supersonic gas jet to improve the cutting speed and performance. In order to get a better understanding of the flow characteristics involved in the supersonic jet cutting technology, the axisymmetric Navier-Stokes equations have been solved using a fully implicit finite volume method. Computations have been conducted to investigate some major characteristics of supersonic coaxial turbulent jets. An assistant gas jet has been imposed on the primary gas jet to simulate realistic jet cutting circumstance. The pressure and the temperature ratios of the primary and assistant gas jets are altered to investigate the major characteristics of the coaxial jets. The total pressure and Mach number distributions, shock wave systems, and the jet core length which characterize the coaxial jet flows are strongly affected by the pressure ratio, but not significantly dependent on the total temperature ratio. The assistant gas jet greatly affects the basic flow characteristics of the shock system and the core length of under and over-expanded jets.

  • Starting characteristics of the axi-symmetric supersonic exhaust diffuser(SED) with a second throat are numerically investigated. Main purpose of this study is to predict theoretical starting pressure of STED using 1-D normal shock theory and to present the range of optimum starting pressure through parametric study with essential design parameters of STED influencing on starting performance. Renolds-Average Navier-Stokes equations with a standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model incorporated with standard wall function are solved to simulate the diffusing evolutions of the nozzle plume. Minimum(optimum) starting pressure difference of $20{\sim}25%$ between 1-D theory and experimental evidences validated from previous results[5] is also applied to predict those in this system. The analysis results indicate that dominant parameters for diffuser starting in this system is diffuser expansion ratio($A_d/A_t$), which has optimum value 120 and second throat area ratio($A_d/A_{st}$), which has optimum range $3.3{\sim}3.5$.

  • A numerical simulation is presented for investigating the effects of pressure ratio of $D_2$ injector to supersonic nozzle on the Population inversion in the DF chemical laser cavity, while a latins concurrently takes place. In this study, these phenomena are investigated by means of analyzing the distributions of the DF excited molecules, while simultaneously estimating the maximum small signal gains and power in the DF chemical laser cavity. Major results reveal that the higher $D_2$ injection pressure provides a favorable condition for $DF^{(1)}$-$DF^{(0)}$ transition to generate the higher power laser beam.
