  • A novel pretreatment technique was applied to the conventional Pt/alumina catalyst to prepare for the highly efficient catalyst for the preferential oxidation of carbon monoxide in hydrogen-rich condition. Their performance was investigated by selective CO oxidation reaction. CO conversion with the oxygen-treated Pt/Alumina catalyst increased remarkably especially at the low temperature below $100^{\circ}C$. This result is promising for the normal operation of the proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) without CO poisoning of the anode catalyst. XRD analysis results showed that metallic Pt peaks were not observed for the oxygen-treated catalyst. This implies that well dispersed small Pt particles exist on the catalyst. This result was continued by high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) analysis. Consequently, it can be concluded that highly dispersed Pt nanoparticles could be prepared by the novel pretreatment technique and thus, CO conversion could be increased considerably especially at the low temperatures below $100^{\circ}C$.

  • Nickel sulfide (NiS) has been utilized in optoelectronic applications, such as transformation-toughening agent for materials used in semiconductor applications, catalysts, and cathodic materials in rechargeable lithium batteries. Recently, high quality nickel sulfide thin films have been explored using ALD/CVD technique. Suitable precursors are needed to deposit thin films of inorganic materials. However, nickel sulfide precursors available for ALD/CVD process are very limited to nickel complexes with dithiocarbamate and alkanethiolate ligands. Therefore, it is essential to prepare novel nickel sulfide suitable for ALD/CVD precesses. Herein we report on the synthesis and characterization of new nickel sulfide complex with designed aminothiolate ligand. Furthermore thin films of NiS have been prepared on silicon oxide substrates by spin coating nickel precursor 10 wt% in THF. The novel complex has been characterized by means of 1H-NMR, elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM).

  • A novel mode of parallel operation of a modular 3-phase AC-DC flyback converter for power factor correction along with tight regulation was recently analyzed and presented. The advantage of the proposed converter does not require expensive high voltage and high current devices that are normally needed in popular boost type 3-phase converter. In this paper tile detailed small signal analysis of the modular 3-phase AC-DC flyback converter is provided for control purpose and also experimental results are included to confirm the validity of the analysis.

  • Single-phase, brushless DC (BLDC) motors have unequal air-gaps to eliminate the dead-point where the developed torque is zero. Unfortunately, these unequal air-gaps can deteriorate the motor characteristics in the cogging torque. This paper proposes a novel design for a single-phase BLDC motor with an asymmetric notch to solve this problem. In the design method, the asymmetric notches were placed on the stator pole face, which affects the change in permanent magnet shape or the residual flux density of the permanent magnet. Parametric analysis was performed to determine the optimal size and position of the asymmetric notch to reduce the cogging torque. Finite element analysis (FEA) was used to calculate the cogging torque. A more than 28% lower cogging torque compared to the initial model with no notch was achieved.

  • This work presents a novel model for analysis of the loading rate influence onto structure response. The model is based on the principles of nonlinear system dynamics, i.e., consists of a system of nonlinear differential equations. In contrast to classical linearized models, this one comprises mass and loading as integral parts of the model. Application of the Kelvin and the Maxwell material models relates the novel formulation to the existing material formulations. All the analysis is performed on a proprietary computer program based on Wolfram Mathematica. This work can be considered as an extended proof of concept for the application of the nonlinear solid model in material response to dynamic loading.

  • The present work mainly reports a significant development of a novel efficient meshfree method for vibration and buckling analysis of orthotropic plates. The plate theory with orthotropic materials is followed the Kirchhoff''s assumption in which the only deflection is field variable and approximated by the moving Kriging interpolation approach, a new technique used for constructing the shape functions. The moving Kriging technique holds the Kronecker delta property, thus it makes the method efficiently in imposing the essential boundary conditions and no special techniques are required. Assessment of numerical results is to accurately illustrate the applicability and the effectiveness of the proposed method in the class of eigenvalue problems.

  • The analysis of current distribution in a solidly modeled coil is very important for accurate of electric machines such as deflection yoke. In general, Modeling every coils is nearly impossible for analyzing magnetic field using the 3-D finite element method, so solidly modeled coil is usually used. Some methods have been developed for analyzing current distribution, but these methods have fatal disadvantages. The main disadvantages are that the methods cannot be applied to an arbitrary shaped coil and that they yield numerical errors. In this paper, a novel method for resolving the problems mentioned above is proposed. The new method is verified by the application to a test model and it shows a very accurate result.

  • In this letter, we propose a novel bitrate control, using both Kalman and FIR filters, based on a Hamiltonian analysis with respect to the amount of bits from each macroblock, in an encoding of a general video codec such as H.264/AVC. Since the proposed bitrate control is based on the simple computation of an optimal control method based on the Hamiltonian analysis, it is not necessary to use additional computation, such as a DCT or quantization, to estimate the bits for bitrate control. As a result, the proposed algorithm can be applied to single-pass encoding and can provide sufficient encoding speed with respect to various applications, even those requiring real-time control.

  • In this work, a novel higher-order shear deformation theory (HSDT) for static and free vibration analysis of functionally graded (FG) plates is proposed. Unlike the conventional HSDTs, the proposed theory has a novel displacement field which includes undetermined integral terms and contains fewer unknowns. Equations of motion are obtained by using Hamilton's principle. Analytical solutions for the bending and dynamic investigation are determined for simply supported FG plates. The computed results are compared with 3D and quasi-3D solutions and those provided by other plate theories. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed HSDT can achieve the same accuracy of the conventional HSDTs which have more number of variables.

  • The synthesis of a novel superabsorbent hydrogel with natural hybrid backbone via graft copolymerization of acrylamide (AAm) onto kappa-carrageenan (kC, as a polysaccharide) and gelatin (as a protein) under classic thermal conditions is described. The Taguchi method as a strong experimental design tool was used for synthesis optimization. A series of hydrogels were synthesized by proposed conditions of Qualitek-4 Software. Considering the results of 9 trials according to analysis of variance (ANOVA), optimum conditions were proposed. The swelling behavior of optimum hydrogel was measured in various solutions with pH values ranging from 1 to 13. In addition, swelling kinetics, swelling in various organic solvents, various salt solutions and On–Off switching behavior were investigated. The hydrogel formation was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and thermogravimetrical analysis (TGA). Surface morphology of the synthesized hydrogels was assessed by scanning electron microscope (SEM).
