Objectives : The K-ARS (Korean ADHD Rating Scale) is one of the most important assessment tool of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in Korea. in this study, we presented detailed normative data on the K-ARS for school-aged children in Seoul metropolitan area to put it to practical use. Methods : The subjects were 2,397 students(1,223 boys and 1,174 girls, aged 6-12) from 4 elementary schools in Seoul, and one caretaker of each child completed the K-ARS for parents. Children who showed high scores of the K-ARS for parents were screened, and 2 child psychiatrists interviewed them to make a clinical diagnosis. We compared the mean scores of the K-ARS for parents between ADHD and normal group, and examined the percentage of correct classification. Results : There were some differences in score of the K-ARS for parents according to sex and age, so we presented continuous normative data with T score and subdivided cut-off points for ADHD screening. Interviews with child psychiatrists using DSM-IV criteria were performed to test diagnostic validity, and the difference in every the K-ARS for parents index between ADHD and normal group was significant(p<.001). Using 3 different cut-of points(80th, 90th, 93rd percentage), the accuracies of ADHD correct classification were 67.9, 72.2, 71.1% and all 3 canonical discriminants were significant (p<.05) between ADHD and normal group. Conclusion : The normative data and cut-off points on the K-ARS for parents are useful in screening ADHD children in Seoul metropolitan area.
The purpose of this study was to obtain normative nasalance scores for adult subjects speaking the Korean language. Additional objectives of the study were to determine if speaker sex played a role in differences in nasalance score and there was significantly correlation of nasalance score with nasalance slope score. The subjects include 75 healthy young Korean adults with normal oral and velopharyngeal resource and function. They had no history of speech problem, were judged as having normal speech and resonance at the time of testing, and had no upper respiratory tract infections or allergies at the time of testing. The Nasometer II 6400 was used to obtain nasalance scores and nasalance slope scores for /a/, /i/, /e/, /o/, /u/, /ja/, /je/, /wi/, /p'ap'i/ and /sasi/. The data of nasalance and nasalance slope were analyzed statistically. The mean nasalance score of the female was significantly higher than that of male at /a/, /i/, /wi/, /p'ap'i/ and /sasi/(p <0.10). The mean nasalance score of /i/ was highest and that of /o/ was the lowest. In this study, we could not and the relationship of the nasalance score and the closing slope score. However, there was negative correlation between the mean nasalance score and the opening slope score at ie/ and /;ai, positive to /sasi/. These normative nasalance scores for normal young adults speaking the Korean language provide important reference information for Korean cleft palate teams. In the future study of velopharygneal activity with the Nasometer, the opening slope score will be able to be the important parameter.

Purpose : This study aimed to present normative data and cut-off points for older Korean adults completing the Montreal Cognitive Assessment - Korean (MoCA-K), which is used as a screening test for mild cognitive impairment in Korea. Methods : A total of 195 healthy adults ≥60 years were recruited. All participants completed the MoCA-K and the Korean - Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE-K) to assess their cognitive function. Participants were divided into six groups based on their age: 60-64 years, 65~69 years, 70~74 years, 75~79 years, 80~84 years, and 85~89 years. Results : The results revealed that MoCA-K score decreased significantly with age (mean score ± standard deviation [SD]; 27.63±2.80 in subjects aged 60~64 years; 27.00±2.39 in subjects aged 65~69 years; 24.94±2.96 in subjects aged 70~74 years; 24.74±3.37 in subjects aged 75~79 years; 22.59±4.72 in subjects aged 80~84 years; and 18.83±5.38 in subjects aged 85~89 years; p<.001). Additionally, MoCA-K score also increased significantly with educational level (mean score±standard deviation [SD]; 19.95±4.78 in no formal education group; 24.95±2.22 in elementary school graduated group; 26.35±2.72 in middle school graduated group; 28.32±1.36 in high school graduated group; and 28.50±1.51 in more than college graduated group; p<.001). The optimal cut-off points were 24/25 for 60~69 years old group, 21/22 for 70~79 years old group, 17/18 for 80~84 years old group, and 13/14 for 85~89 years old group. The optimal cut-off points were 15/16 for individuals who were illiterate, 22/23 for individuals with 6 years of education, 22/24 for individuals with 9 years of education, and 26/27 for individuals with 12 or more years of education. Conclusions : This study presents normative data and cut-off points for the MoCA-K in older Korean adults. This data will facilitate more accurate detection and follow-up of the risk of mild cognitive impairment in this population, taking into consideration age and education. Future studies are required that should focus on the cut-off score on the level of education according to age.
This study develops normative scores of the Infant/Toddler version of the Home Observation for Measurement of the Environment (IT-HOME) inventory for Korean infants and toddlers. We selected 482 0- to 36-month-old infants and families by a stratified sampling procedure that considered residency, age, and gender of children. The pass rate, discrimination rate, and internal consistency were analyzed for the item analysis. Statistical validity included intercorrelation among the IT-HOME subscales, correlation between IT-HOME scores and environmental status variables, and correlation between IT-HOME and Korean Bayley Scales of Infant Development second edition (K-BSID-II) scores. Normative scores were prepared by percentile ranks. The results of this study were as follows: First, 45 items were acceptable for Korean subjects with few exceptions. IT-HOME was developed to screen unfavorable environmental factors during infancy; therefore, items such as 12, 17, 23, 39, 44 need to be retained even though they had low discriminating power. Second, IT-HOME subscales were correlated, and IT-HOME was significantly related to parents' education level, household income level, and infant' developmental levels. Third, percentile scores and the median of each IT-HOME subscales were suggested as normative scores. We discussed the normative scores of the IT-HOME to screen the quality of home environments for children aged 0-36 months in Korea, and provide the intervention basis for the at-risk population.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe hospital nurses' knowledge and beliefs about hand hygiene and to identify the relationships between knowledge and beliefs. Methods: Data were collected from 232 nurses working in four university hospitals and were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 20.0 program. Results: The mean score of knowledge of hand hygiene was 8.1. The mean scores of behavioral, normative, and control belief about hand hygiene were 2.3, 2.5, and -0.7, respectively. Knowledge was correlated with educational level (p=.013) and experience of hand hygiene campaign (p=.018). The behavioral belief was correlated with age (p<.001) and career (p=.002). The normative belief was correlated with work department (p=.007). The control belief was correlated with educational level (p=.043) and experience of being monitored on hand hygiene (p=.010). The subjects who believed that head nurses, charge nurses, and colleagues practiced better hand hygiene had higher behavioral and normative belief scores than those who did not. There were no significant relationships between knowledge and beliefs. Conclusion: There is a need to improve knowledge of hand hygiene in hospital nurses. This study provides information for developing strategies to strengthen beliefs about hand hygiene.

The purpose of present study was to develop the Korean Version of Luria-Nebraska Neuropsychological Battery for Children(LNNB-C), to examine the reliability of it, and to establish the norms for determining the probability of brain damage. The normative group used to standardize the Korean version of LNNB-C was composed of 147 children between the age of 8 and 12(body 74, girl 73). The clinical group consisted of 19 brain damaged, 16 ADHD, and 16 psychiatric controls. The inter-scorer reliability was 96.3%, indicating that the stability of the scoring system for the Korean version of LNNB-C is good. The reliability coefficients(Cronbach's ${\alpha}$) of LNNB-C scales were ranged .51 to .91, which are similar to those of original LNNB-C. To establish the norms for detecting brain damage, the means and standard deviations for normative group were used to calculate T-scores for each scale. To determine a critical level that could successfully predict a normal child's average score at a given age, first the average score of normative group was calculated, and this score was then entered a regression equation with age to predict the average(baseline) acore. Finally, some issues on constructing the Korean version of LNNB-C and the cultural differences between Korean and American children in performing LNNB-C were discussed.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare psychosocial adjustment in children aged 4-11 years with cancer between on and off treatment. Method: The data was collected from parents of children with cancer through interviews with structured questionnaire at the pediatric outpatient department and inpatient ward of one university hospital located in Seoul. The instrument were the Child Behavior Check List(CBCL) developed by Achenbach(1991) and revised to standardize for Korean children by Oh et al(1997). Result: Total behavior problem score for children on treatment was greater than the score off treatment but there was no significant difference. Children on treatment reported higher levels of depression/anxiety, withdrawal, internalizing scores than children off treatment. Social competence score of children off treatment was greater than the score on treatment and the difference of school performance score of children between on and off treatment was not significant. The scores on the withdrawal, somatic complaints, social immaturity, internalizing scales in the cancer group including both on and off treatment was greater than normative findings in the general population. The scores on the school competence of children off treatment were lower than the norms for healthy children. Conclusion: Findings from this study support the importance of nursing interventions to facilitate the adjustment of children with cancer both on and off therapy.
The present research investigated the validity and reliability of the Verbal and Figural tests of the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking(TTCT). Its potential as a basis of normative data, and differences in children's sex and grade in school were also examined. The subjects of this study were 360 children (180 boys, 180 girls) enrolled in two public elementary schools grades 1-6. Pearson's product-moment coefficient and two-way analysis of variance were used for analyzing data collected from these tests. The present research showed a coefficient of concurrent validity of the TTCT-Verbal test of .40. The coefficient of equivalence from reliability between the TTCT-Verbal test and TTCT-Figural test was .65 (p<.01). Regarding the coefficient of interscorer reliability, the total score of the TTCT-Verbal test was .86 and that of the TTCT-Figural test was .95. The coefficient of intrascorer reliability on the total score of the TTCT-Verbal test was .93 and that of the TTCT-Figural test was .96. Generally, score reliability was .86 to .96 in total score but there were great differences in the reliability of sub-factor scores. There were no significant differences between boys and girls in the distribution of scores on the TTCT-Verbal test and the TTCT-Figural test. There were significant differences between grades (p<.01) on the distribution of total scores and subfactor scores of the TTCT-Verbal Test.
The purpose of the present study was to understand the clothing behavior of high school girls, and to analyze the differences of the behavior in accordance with their family self-concept and residential area. The study was implemented through a normative-descriptive survey method using a questionnaire. The survey was conducted in April 2006, and the sample consisted of 462 girls from 5 high schools. The data were analyzed by t-test, factor analysis, and cluster analysis. The results are as follows: I. In general, the family self-concept of high school girls was considerably positive, and the group from the Gangbuk area showed a more positive family self-concept than the group from Gangnam. 2. The group from Gangnam displayed a higher score in conformity, fashionability, and economy than the group from Gangbuk did. In terms of personality, the group from Gangbuk showed a higher score than the group from Gangnam. 3. The group having a more positive family self-concept showed a higher score in aspects of personality and psychological dependency. In the areas of conformity and fashionability, the group having a more positive family self-concept manifested a lower score. 4. In the case of the group having a more positive family self-concept, the girls from Gangnam, more than the group from Gangbuk, evidenced a higher score in conformity and fashionability, but showed a lower score in personality. In the case of the group having a lower score regarding family self-concept, the girls from Gangnam, more than those from Gangbuk, showed a higher score in conformity, fashionability, and economy. On the other hand, the personality score of the girls from Gangnam was lower than that of the Gangbuk group. Considering the results of the study mentioned above, it could be said that the clothing behavior of high school girls is different according to their family self-concept and residential area, and such clothing behavior could be used as a cue to understanding their family self-concept.

Purpose: The purpose of this study aims to provide a fundamental basis for more efficient human resource management of hospitals through career development and through lowering the rate of turnover of nurses. Method: The target group was 370 nurses who are currently employed at four general hospitals. Three hundred and twenty-nine documents were collected, and the statistical results were generated by the SAS program. Result: The average mean score of organizational commitment, career commitment and turnover intention were: 3.13 points for affective commitment, 3.09 points for continuance commitment and 2.92 points for normative commitment, out of a five point scale. The average mean score of career commitment and turnover intention was 2.89 and 3.28 points. The most influential variable in turnover intention was affective commitment out of organizational commitment. Conclusions: This study verified that organizational commitment and career commitment are key variables that could decrease turnover intentions.
