  • We have examined the Ferroelectric properties of $PbZr_{0.4}Ti_{0.6}O_3$ (PZT) grains by monitoring the surface potential through the utilization of Kelvin force microscopy. Hysteretic and time dependent behaviors of small and large grains were compared with each other. The smaller grain yields had smaller values of surface potential. However, the normalized voltage versus surface potential behavior indicates that the smaller grains became saturated earlier with respect to the writing voltages than did the larger grains. On the other hand, the surface potential hysteresis loop obtained from the smaller grains showed a similar shape to what might be obtained from a Zr rich PZT film. In contrast the hysteresis loop of the larger grain looks like that obtained from a Ti-rich film. In addition, the time dependent behaviors of the smaller grains also revealed a better response than the response of larger grains. The overall ferroelectric properties of the smaller grains seem better than corresponding properties for larger grains. The Ti/Zr ratio of the PZT film which was examined in this study was 60/40.

  • This paper considers the applicability of a pseudosteady-state approach to the long-time behavior of real gas flow in a closed reservoir. The method involves a combination of a linearized gas diffusivity equation using a normalized pseudotime and a material balance equation. For the simulation of field-scale problems with multiple wells of differing production rates over extended production periods, the pseudosteady-state equation was solved successively for each flow period. Results from this study show that the approach provides a fast and accurate method for modeling the long-time behavior of gas reservoirs under depletion conditions.

  • In this paper, the optimal condition for efficient active frequency multipliers is analyzed. This analysis is based on the effects from transistor nonlinear coefficients, harmonic impedances, and output parasitic components. From the analysis, normalized harmonic power is estimated with the clipping condition of a commercial transistor, and the condition for high conversion efficiency is suggested. From the analysis, a class-F frequency tripler was implemented for the output at 2.475 GHz, showing the maximum efficiency of 22.9 % and the maximum conversion gain of 9.5 dB.

  • This study examines the reflection of a partially perforated wall with single chamber by 2D and 3D hydraulic experiments. The effects of slit shape on the front wall, relative chamber width and wave steepness were discussed. For the normal incident wave condition, the reflections of horizontal slit case were lower than that of the vertical slit with the similar porosity, but the differences are not significant. When the wave steepness is relatively small, the reflection coefficients are large. In the oblique incidence, the normalized wave heights along a perforated wall with similar porosity are almost same for the vertical and horizontal slit walls and therefore the difference by slit shape can be ignored.

  • Constant ΔK fatigue crack growth tests were performed by applying an intermediate multiple overload for S45C steel. The purpose of the present study is to investigate effects of specimen thickness at various baseline stress intensity factor range levels (ΔK(sub)b), overload application position (a/W) and overload application frequency (OL(sub)HZ) on fatigue crack growth retardation behavior. The principal results are summarized as follows. The amount of retardation for a given ΔK(sub)b level is increased with increasing the baseline stress intensity factor range level for all specimen thickness. The normalized minimum crack growth rate is increased with increasing the specimen thickness, except for ΔK=45MPa√m. The retardation cycle is decreased with increasing a/W and increased with OL(sub)HZ.

  • The Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) technique was applied to investigate the effects of Reynolds number and the characteristics of the organized motions or coherent structures as a function of downstream position from x/D=2 to 6 in a turbulent axisymmetric shear layer at Reynolds numbers of 78,400, 117,600, and 156,800. Data were collected simultaneously using the 138 hot-wire probe used by Citriniti and George (2000). The POD was then applied to a double Fourier transform in time and azimuthal direction of the double velocity correlation tensor. The lowest azimuthal mode for all POD modes, which dominated the dynamics at x=D = 3 in the previous experiments, dies off rapidly downstream. This is consistent with a trend toward homogeneity in the downstream evolution, and suggests that some residual value may control the growth rate of the far jet. On the other hand, for the higher azimuthal modes, the peak shifts to lower mode numbers and actually increases with downstream distance. These mixing layer data, normalized by similarity variables for the mixing layer, collapse at all downstream positions and are nearly independent of Reynolds numbers.

  • Of many modalities for measuring output factor, we measured the outputs of 18mm, 14mm, 8mm and 4mm helmet in Gamma knife using ion chambers and a Gafrcromic MD-55 film and normalized the outputs of four helmets the one of a 18mm helmet. Ion chambers used for this paper were a PR-05P and a PinPoint having a volume of 0.07cc and 0.015cc respectively. The recommended output factors from a manufacture were 1, 0.984, 0.956, and 0.87. For PR-05P, the output factor of 14mm helmet showed a good agreement, but the ones of 8mm and 4mm helmet showed the difference of 4.6% and 47% respectively. For PinPoint, The output factors of 14mm and 8mm helmet showed a good agreement, but the one of a 4mm helmet showed a difference of 18%. The Gafcromic MD-55, however, showed a good agreement for all helmets.

  • Earthquake records are often analyzed in various earthquake engineering problems, making time-frequency analysis for such records of primary concern. The best tool for such analysis appears to be based on wavelet functions; selection of which is not an easy task and is commonly carried through trial and error process. Furthermore, often a particular wavelet is adopted for analysis of various earthquakes irrespective of record's prime characteristics, e.g. wave's magnitude. A wavelet constructed based on records' characteristics may yield a more accurate solution and more efficient solution procedure in time-frequency analysis. In this study, a low-pass reconstruction filter is obtained for each earthquake record based on multi-resolution decomposition technique; the filter is then assigned to be the normalized version of the last approximation component with respect to its magnitude. The scaling and wavelet functions are computed using two-scale relations. The calculated wavelets are highly efficient in decomposing the original records as compared to other commonly used wavelets such as Daubechies2 wavelet. The method is further advantageous since it enables one to decompose the original record in such a way that a clear time-frequency resolution is obtained.

  • Watermarking is one of the methods that insist on a copyright as it append digital signals in digital informations like still image, video, ets. This paper proposed a novel digital watermarking scheme which combines a QR code and a watermarking method using DCT coefficient. It proposed an algorithm for selecting a QR code from a image and to be converted into a watermark. It processed a watermarking process using expanded watermarking method in DCT area. This simulation results showed that the PSNR difference between the proposed scheme and the original image was 33.98dB and the normalized correlation between the proposed scheme and the original image was above 99.51. The proposed method is reusable.
