We extend our previous theoretical analysis of electronic and optical properties of p-type quantum well structures based on the two heavy- and light-hole system to include all the three valence bands. These theories are then used to clarify the origin of the normal incidence absorption and photo current at photon wavelengths of 2 - 3 ${\mu}m$, which was observed in addition to the absorption around 8 ${\mu}m$ by a recent experimental investigation with heavily doped p-type GaAs/AlGaAs multi-quantum well (MQW) structures. In the theoretical analysis, the Hartree and exchange-correlation many-body interactions are taken into account within one-particle local density approximation, and it is shown that normal incidence absorption occurs in two wavelength regions over the transition energy range higher than barrier height for p-type GaAs/AlGaAs superlattices with well doping of $2{\times}10^{19}\;cm^{-3}$; one region has broad absorption peaks with coefficients of about 5000 $cm^{-1}$ around 8 ${\mu}m$, and the other has two rather sharp peaks at 2.7 ${\mu}m$ and 3.4 ${\mu}m$ with 1800 $cm^{-1}$ and 1300 $cm^{-1}$, respectively. The result indicates that the theory explains the experimental observation well, as the theoretical and experimental results are in close agreement in general absorption features.
The moment-curvature relationship of reinforced concrete beams made of normal- and high-strength concrete experiencing complex load history is studied using a numerical method that employs the actual stress-strain curves of the constitutive materials and takes into account the stress-path dependence of the concrete and steel reinforcement. The load history considered includes loading, unloading and reloading. From the results obtained, it is found that the complete moment-curvature relationship, which is also path-dependent, is similar to the material stress-strain relationship with stress-path dependence. However, the unloading part of the moment-curvature relationship of the beam section is elastic but not perfectly linear, although the unloading of both concrete and steel is assumed to be linearly elastic. It is also observed that when unloading happens, the variation of neutral axis depth has different trends for under- and over-reinforced sections. Moreover, even when the section is fully unloaded, there are still residual curvature and stress in the section in some circumstances. Various issues related to the post-peak behavior of reinforced concrete beams are also discussed.

The purpose of this study is to estimate cesarean section rate in Korea and analyze the socioeconomic variables and health resources which affect regional variation in the rate. Samples were drawn from the record of vaginal and cesarean section deliveries based upon insurance claim bills which have been submitted to the National Federation of Medical Insurance for the first three months, January through March, 1991. The results are obtained as follows : It was found that. cesarean section rate was increasing rapidly up to 23.1% in 1991. Cesarean section per 10 thousand insured people was 4.8 and the number of cesarean section per 10 thousand insured eligible($15{\sim}49$ years old) female was 7.6. The fee for normal delivery was 109,489 won and that for cesarean section was 390,024 won. The average days of hospitalization in normal delivery was 2.3 days, and those in cesarean section was 7.6 days. On the average cesarean section has a longer of stay as much as by 4.3 days and cost 3.6 times more than normal deliveries. Cesarean section rates vary among medical facilities 19.8% at clinics 37.6% in small-scale hospitals, and 29.1% in general hospitals. The regional variation of cesarean section rates was also fairly prominent. The South Cheju Gun has the highest rate of cesarean section, 56.2%. Meanwhile no cesarean section cases has been reported in Sunchang Gun during the period of this study. The variation is noted among provinces. The rate for Cheju province has been 3.4 times higher than that for Chunnam. The number of cesarean section per 10 thousand insured people vary greatly among regions, too. This study has found that there exists significant regional variations among various geographic units in terms of average length of stay, average cost, number of obsretricians and number of beds. Multiple regression analysis was done to identify factors explaining the regional variance of various cesarean section rates : In the urban areas, no significant explaining variables were noted except the number of beds for the dependent variable of cesarean section cases per 10 thousand insured eligible females. The smaller the number of bed, the more cases of cesarean section was noted for an urban area. The is mostly because the rate of cesarean section is higher in medium-size hospitals than in large general hospitals. In the rural areas, the factor of education has been found significant for all three deplendent variables. The higher the educational level, the rate of cesarean section is most likely to rise. An income variable measured by the amount of monthly insurance contribution has been identified a powerful predictor in explaining the valiance of cesarean section rates. The same has been noted for the number of obstetricians. Similar findings are observed for the country as a whole. The income level has veen found as the most powerful explaining factor in the regional variance of cesarean section rates. In general the rate is higher in the urban areas, and lower in the area with more small hospitals. As this is the initial attempt to identify the factors relevant to the regional difference in the rates of cesarean section, more elaborated study is urgently required.
The objective of this study was to estimate the dynamic behavior of a personal rapid transit(PRT) track system using a rail of rectangular tube section and a rail joint of sliding type, and to compare the results with the normal rail and rail joint of a PRT track system by performing field measurements using actual vehicles running along the service lines. The measured vertical displacement of rail and sleeper, and vertical acceleration of rail for the normal rail and rail joint section were found to be similar, and the rail joint of sliding type satisfied the design specifications of the track impact factor for a conventional railway track. The experimental results showed that the overall dynamic response of the rail joint were found to be similar to or less than that of the normal rail, therefore the rail joint of sliding type for PRT track system was sufficient to ensure a stability and safety of PRT track system.
The purpose of this investigation was to determine the intratester reliability of measurements obtained with 3 Dimensional Motion Analysis System(3DMAS) by tester on normal subject. Twenty subjects between the ages of 9 and 29(x=22) were evaluated with 3DMAS using a test-retest reliability procedure after a familiarization session. Computerized 3DMAS was done with 4 50 - Hz CCD cameras connected to the ELITE system(B. T. S., Italy) and kinetic data were collected from the AMTI force platform(AMTI., U. S. A). Data were analyzed by the Eliclinic software to obtain gait parameters, joint angles and joint internal moment and power. Test-retest revealed intraclass correlation coefficients from .80 to .99. A series of paired t-tests revealed no significant differences between test and retest values. Finally, it was concluded that tester with 3DMAS could obtain reliable measurements with 3DMAS for determining kinetic, kinematic and gait parameters in normal subjects.

An active study on UHPC, which has been recently used in high-rise building and bridges, is in progress. However, research on adhesion strength of normal concrete and UHPC is required to be studied due to the lack of information. In this study, experimental research progress for adhesion strength (shear strength of adhesive surface) evaluation of Bi-compressive strength concretes (UHPC, Normal concrete) is proceeded. First, specimens using glue are produced and surface treatment methods of concrete bonded section are considered. Second, Direct Shear test is applied on concrete bonded section of UHPC (80~180MPa) and Normal Concrete (NC). As a result of this study, it is confirmed that bond strength is deteriorated as the difference of intensity ration of NC and UHPC increases.

Generally, diaphragms are installed in the box girder to prevent or decrease the distortion of tile cross section. In engineering practice, diaphragms are spaced in 5m intervals without reasonable basis. ANd the usual diaphragm type is solid-plate type. It is considered to be noneconomical design to the almost design engineers. In this paper, the parametric study was performed to present the design proposal about the diaphragm stiffness and spacing only in tire single cell box girder. For that, the distortional warping normal stress, bending normal stress and transverse bending normal stress were analyzed using finite element program 'SMB' for the accurate structural analysis.

The refrigerant R-134a flow distributions are experimentally studied for a round header/ten flat tube test section simulating a brazed aluminum heat exchanger. Three different inlet orientations(parallel, normal, vertical) were investigated. Tests were conducted with downward flow for the mass flux from 70 to 130 $kg/m^2s$ and quality from 0.2 to 0.6. In the test section, tubes were flush-mounted with no protrusion into the header. It is shown that normal and vertical inlet yielded approximately similar flow distribution. At high mass fluxes or high qualities, however, slightly better results were obtained for normal inlet configuration. The flow distribution was worst for the parallel inlet configuration. Possible explanation is provided based on flow visualization results.
Recent researches of the fire resistance in concrete focus on how to secure relevant functions in the high strength concrete. However, the demand of normal strength concrete less than 40 MPa takes most of the total concrete demand. Therefore, fire resistance study needs to cover not only high strength concretes but also normal strength concretes. This study evaluated the fire resistance performance of 40 MPa concrete columns, taking the concrete covering thickness and the size of section as variables. Consequently, the fire resistance performance improved as the section size and the covering thickness became larger.
Generally, Web & Flange of I shape beam are composed of plane for optimization of measurement in investigating the behavior resistant to horizontal force and bending moment on large section Therefore, longitudinally traperzoidal web section beam has an important function as a body for carrying more load and ensuring more support area. There is only a limited usefulness for analyzing the behavior of web section with opening. It is experimentally verified that this traperzoidal web section has a good resistant caopacity. conclustions on the above research results are as follows : 1) resistant capacity on the above can be more 15% increased than normal case 2) stiffener welding work and complexity of shopdrawing can be excluded in advance 3) traperzoidal section can be applied in structural practice.
