Purpose The ASAN Medical Center, Nuclear Medicine performs TSH (Thyroid stimulating hormone) and FT4 (Free Thyroxine) tests 8 times per day. Accordingly, 70 ~ 80 kit tubes are consumed every day for the measurements and the time consumed for reagent dispensing averages over 170 seconds, where the TAT (turnaround time) may be effected when the number of test samples is larger than expected. Therefore, the following test was conducted with the purpose to reduce the number of kit tubes consumed, and reduce the time for reagent dispensing. Materials and Methods The test is based on applying the same reagent for tests where the number of samples is 30 or less. The test for TSH was conducted 9 times from July $1^{st}$ 2015 to July $10^{th}$ 2015. The test for FT4 was conducted 4 times from June $18^{th}$ 2015 to June $22^{nd}$, 2015. Standard Solution No.2 (0.153 uU/mL) and No.5 (4.96 uU/mL) was selected as the two-point standards for the TSH test, and Standard Solution No.3 (0.777 ng/dL) and No.4 (2.044 ng/dL) was selected as the two-point standards for the FT4 test. 38 test samples were subject to correlation analysis. Results For TSH, the result of the normal test shows ranges of 0.20 ~ 0.37 uU/mL for Control1, 0.53 ~ 0.71 uU/mL for Control2, and 6.77 ~ 7.94uU/mL for Control3, while the result of two-point calibration curve test shows ranges of 0.18 ~ 0.27 uU/mL for Control1, 0.53 ~ 0.71 uU/mL for Control2, and 7.30 ~ 8.52 uU/mL for Control3. For FT4, the result of the normal test shows ranges of 0.85 ~ 0.94 ng/dL for Control1 and 4.23 ~ 4.57 ng/dL for Control2, while the result of two-point calibration curve test shows ranges of 0.61 ~ 0.75 ng/dL for Control1 and 3.88 ~ 5.71 ng/dL for Control2. For TSH, the CV% of the normal test for Control1, Control2 and Control3 are 10.5, 3.3 and 3.6 respectively, while the CV% of the two-point calibration curve test for Control1 and Control1 are 12.4, 8.2 and 5.1 respectively. The result shows an outstanding correlation of TSH: y = 0.9985x - 0.0459 $R^2=0.9986$. For FT4, the CV% of the normal test for Control1 and Control2 are 0.70 and 0.71 respectively, while the CV% of the two-point calibration curve test for Control1 and Control1 are 8.7 and 16.2 respectively. The result shows an outstanding correlation of FT4: y = 1.2674x - 0.1133 $R^2=0.9824$. Conclusion The two-point calibration curve can be efficiently applied for TSH in cases where the number of test samples is not large, since the number of samples to be re-tested increases when the result is abnormal from the calibration curve. The two-point calibration curve test should not be applied for FT4 where the results do not consistently comply with the quality assessment range. Depending on how the two-point calibration curve is applied, up to 5 test tubes can be conserved per test, and the reduced time for reagent dispensing is anticipated to have a positive effect on the TAT (turnaround time).
It is important to analyze the characteristics of normal gait in clinical and biomechanical aspects. Although gait characteristics can be varied by anthropometric, racial and cultural factors, normal gait studies have been performed mostly for Western people. The present study conducted a gait analysis for Korean young adults and compared the gait characteristics with those of Western people for the establishment of Korean normal gait data. A total of thirty-two adults in twenties(20 males and 12 females) were participated in the gait experiment and their spatio-temporal and kinematic/kinetic gait characteristics were analyzed. The comparison of the gait characteristics between Korean and Western people, revealed that the stride length and walking speed of Korean were significantly smaller than those of Western people by 0.1~0.3m and 0.15~0.40m/s respectively. And the knee abduction moment of Korean was larger than that of Western people, while the other moments(such as hip flexion/extension moments, abduction/adduction moments, and knee flexion/extension moments) were smaller than those of Western people. The ranges of joint angles between the gait studies were largely different with each other, but most of motion patterns and excursions were similar.

Purpose: To assess clinical proton MR spectroscopy (MRS) as a noninvasive method for evaluating tumor malignancy at 3T high field system. Methods: Using 3T MRI/MRS system, localized water-suppressed single-voxel technique in patients with brain tumors was employed to evaluate spectra with peaks of N-acetyl aspartate (NAA), choline-containing compounds (Cho), creatine/phosphocreatine (Cr) and lactate. On the basis of Cr, these peak areas were quantificated as a relative ratio. Results: The variation of metabolites measurements of the designated region in 10 normal volunteers was less than 10%. Normal ranges of NAA/Cr and Cho/Cr ratios were 1.67$\pm$018 and 1.16:1:0.15, respectively. NAA/Cr ratio of all tumor tissues was significantly lower than that of the normal tissues (P=0.005). Cho/Cr ratio of high-grade gliomas was significantly higher than that of low-grade gliomas (P= 0.001), Except 4 menigiomas, lactate signal was observed in all tumor cases. Conclusions: The present study demonstrated that the neuronal degradation or loss was observed in all tumor tissues. Higher grade of brain tumors was correlated with higher Cho/Cr ratio, indicating a significant dependence of Cho levels on malignancy of gliomas. This results suggest that clinical proton MR spectroscopy could be useful to predict tumor malignancy. Hemophilia B is a rare blood coagulation disorder. Complications such as bleeding and hematoma can cause necrosis of flaps, wound disruption, and the disturbance of wound healing. In particular, guidelines for flap operations in hemophilia B patients have still not been defined, and case reports are rare. We reconstructed the heel of a 41-year-old male hemophilia B patient using a reverse sural artery flap operation. The patient presented with mild hemophilia, having 27% of the normal value of coagulation factor IX. Coagulation and the changing value of the coagulation factor were regularly measured, and 70% of the normal value of coagulation factor IX was maintained through the injection of recombinant coagulation factors and antihemorrhagics. Hematoma developed twice (postoperative day [POD] 5 and POD 7) and in each case the hematoma was removed. Injections of recombinant coagulation factors and antihemorrhagics were continuously administered until postoperative week 2. When the coagulation factors were within normal ranges. In this article, a hemophilia B patient underwent reverse sural artery flap surgery and the healing progress was analyzed. We conclude that higher than baseline levels of coagulation factors are needed for successful healing in reverse sural artery flap surgery.
A knowledge of the wide ranges in shape of liver is important in the interpretation of hepatic scintigraphy as some variants may be easily confused with pathological abnormalities. In this study, the variations in shape in 250 cases of normal liver obtained by scintiphoto were categorized into 9 types by means of the arbitrary standard for classification. Following were the results; 1) Among 250 normal cases, type 5 was 118(47.2%) with the highest prevalence and type 3 was 2 (0.8%) with the lowest. 2) A high incidence of obesity was noted in type 1, type 4 and type 8. That of ideal weight was noted in type 2, type 5 type 6 and type 9. 3) A high ratio of cardiac impression in scintiphoto was noted in type 4, type 7 and type 8. That of square left lobe was noted in type 2, type 6 and type 9. Finally that of tailed left lobe was in type 4, type 7 and type 8.
Improvement of the classification accuracy is one of the major concerns in the field of remote sensing application research in recent years. Previous research shows that the accuracy of the conventional classification methods based only on the original spectral information were usually unsatisfied and need to be refined by manual edit. This present paper describes a method of combining the image processing, ancillary data (such as digital elevation model) and expert knowledge (especially the knowledge of local professionals) to improve the efficiency and accuracy of the satellite image classification in hilly land. Firstly, the Landsat TM data were geo-referenced. Secondly, the individual bands of the image were intensitynormalized and the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) image was also generated. Thirdly, a set of sample pixels (collected from field survey) were utilized to discover their corresponding DN (digital number) ranges in the NDVI image, and to explore the relationships between land use type and its corresponding spectral features . Then, using the knowledge discovered from previous steps as well as knowledge from local professionals, with the support of GIS technology and the ancillary data, a set of conditional statements were applied to perform the TM imagery classification. The results showed that the integration of image processing and spatial analysis functions in GIS improved the overall classification result if compared with the conventional methods.
This study focused on comparing the following acoustic changes according to age and sex in adulthood: Fo, Jitter, Shimmer, and NHR. One hundred twenty Korean adults were divided into three age groups (20's, 50's, and 70's) and two sex groups (male and female). The subjects of this study performed three tasks: (1) sustained three vowels; (2) read on paragraph of 'Taking a Walk' (3) explained a picture. The data was analyzed using the MDVP of Multi-Speech. In the parameter of Fo, sex and age were influential factors. In the parameters of Jitter, Shimmer and NHR, the effect of sex and age was different in all three parameters. When the groups organized by sex were analyzed by age, the 20's group showed a statistical difference in all four parameters (Fo, Jitter, Shimmer, and NKR), when compared to the other two age ranges of 50's and 70's. We need to consider our standard parameter for the normal voice in the Korean elderly because the 50's and 70's age normal groups in our study are out of the current range of normal in MDVP.
The objective of this study was to investigate Alaska pollock Theragra chalcogramma roe grade distribution among blocks and its nutritional components by grade. M grade roe was predominantly distributed in blocks labeled as L and M (52.1 and 82.8%, respectively), and S grade roe was mainly found in blocks labeled as S (98.6%). Products labeled as containing KB and KC grade roe contained 77.1 and 65.5% normal roe, respectively. Among the five roe grades (L, M, S, G, and Off), total amino acid content was higher in normal roe than in abnormal roe. The major amino acids found in normal roe were leucine, aspartic acid, and glutamic acid, whereas G and Off grade roe contained leucine and glutamic acid, but not aspartic acid. The calcium, phosphorus, potassium, and iron contents of the five roe grades were within the ranges 13.0-20.0, 314.4-392.0, 124.1-157.7, and 1.7-2.2 mg/100 g, respectively. The five roe grades contained total fatty acid contents of 765-1,252 mg/100 g, with no significant differences among grades. The major fatty acids were 16:0, 18:1n-9, 20:5n-3, and 22:6n-3.

The performance of naked neck and normal chicken was evaluated with respect to growth, carcass, immune, biochemical and stress parameters under winter and summer seasons to assess the suitability of naked neck birds under high temperatures in the global scenario of climate change. The growth performance was significantly ($p{\leq}0.05$) higher in naked neck chicken in the summer season. The dressing percentage was significantly ($p{\leq}0.05$) higher in naked neck birds in both winter and summer season because of reduced plumage. The thigh, giblet and feather proportion significantly ($p{\leq}0.05$) varied between naked neck and normal chickens in summer season. The humeral immune response to sheep red blood cells (SRBC), Newcastle disease vaccine (NDV) and cutaneous basophil hypersensitivity (CBH) did not show any significant differences among the chicken groups. The protein and cholesterol concentration observed was within the normal ranges. The total cholesterol levels in plasma were significantly ($p{\leq}0.05$) lower in naked neck birds in both the seasons. H:L ratio was significantly ($p{\leq}0.05$) lower in summer season indicating less stress in naked neck chicken. Basophil and eosinophil concentration was significantly ($p{\leq}0.05$) higher in normal chicken in summer. The lipid peroxidation was higher in full feathered birds under summer stress. The enzyme glutathione reductase (GR) levels were significantly higher during the summer and varied significantly ($p{\leq}0.05$) between the normal and naked neck chicken in both seasons. The results indicated that the naked neck birds performed significantly better at high ambient temperatures with respect to growth, carcass and biochemical parameters. It was concluded that the ability of the naked neck chicken to adapt to high temperatures foresees a viable option for the biological mitigation of climate change.
Normal range has use mainly in the first phase of the diagnostic process, that is, to screen or to raise ideas about possible pathology. The traditional method of determining it is based on the probability paper or on the mean plus or minus two standard deviations. These methods are often turned out to be vague and impractical. The percentile method is adequate and flexible, though. The appropriate limit of lower and upper points should be chosen by considering medical aspects above all things and also the reliability of the range determined by the standard error. The results of normal range are interesting, strictly speaking, only for the hospital concerned. Differences exist between the normal ranges reported by various sources (Bezemer et al, 1983). It would be best to establish the normal range based on a population comparable to a group of individuals to whom the normal range is to serve as a norm.
