Experimental study on partially-reinforced steel RHS compression members

  • This paper presents an experimental study on the behavior of axially-loaded steel RHS (rectangular hollow section) compression members that are partially reinforced along their lengths with welded steel plates. 28 slender column tests were carried out to investigate the effects of the slenderness ratio of the unreinforced member and the ratio of the reinforced length of the member to its entire length. In addition to the slender column tests, 14 stub-column tests were conducted to determine the basic mechanical properties of the test specimens under uniform compression. Test results show that both the compressive strength and stiffness of an RHS member can be increased significantly compared to its unreinforced counterpart even when only the central quarter of the member is reinforced. Based on the limited test data, it can be concluded that partial reinforcement is, in general, more effective in members with larger slenderness ratios. A simple design expression is also proposed to predict the compressive strength of RHS columns partially reinforced along their length with welded steel plates by modifying the provisions of AISC 360-10 to account for the partial reinforcement.

차량 복합판형부품의 설계개선 기법들 (Design Enhancements for Automotive Integrated Shell Structures)

  • Recent attempt to enhance the safety against collision reshaped the simple shell structures into the integrated complex shell structures. Moreover, due to various regulations continuously tightened for environment protection, weight reduction of automobiles becomes an increasingly important issue. Auto parts lightening is mainly accomplished by more reasonable design, adoption of lighter materials and miniaturization of the auto bodies. Focusing on the locally enhanced design approach among the above three ways, we here attempt to develop a patching optimization method, and also to determine the thicknesses of an integrated shell structure, both bringing a specified amount of stress relaxation. We first select a cross member as a patching optimization model. Based on the finite element stress calculations, we relieve the stress of cross member by patching in two ways-nonuniform thickness patching and optimized uniform thickness patching, the latter of which is more effective in a practical point of view for the preset amount of stress relaxation. Selecting a box type subframe as another finite element analysis model, we then determine the thickness of each part by axiomatic design approach for a preset amount of stress relaxation. The patching methodology and the axiomatic approach adopted in this work can be applied to the other complex shell structures such as center member and lower control arm.

통신망에서의 정보전파 방법의 평가에 관한 연구 (Evaluation of Information Dissemination Methods in a Communication Network)

  • This study deals with the problem of information dissemination in a communication network, which is defined to be the process whereby a set of messages, generated by an originator, is transmitted to all the members within the network. Since this type of message generally includes control data to manage the network or global information that all members should know, it is to be required to transmit it to all the members as soon as possible. In this study, it is assumed that a member can either transmit or receive a message and an informed member can transmit it to only one of its neighbors at time. This type of transmission is called 'local broadcasting' Several schemes of call sequencing are designed for a general-type network with nonuniform edge transmission times, and then computer simulations are performed. Some heuristics for information dissemination are proposed and tested. For this, optimal call sequence in a tree-type network, sequencing theory and graph theory are applied. The result shows that call sequencing based on the shortest path tree is the most desirable.

커플러를 갖는 프리스트레스트 콘크리트 구조물의 응력분포에 관한 실험연구 (An Experimental Study on Stress Distribution of Prestressed Concrete Structure with Coupler System)

  • The uniform state of prestress in a fully prestressed concrete members shows reductions of more than half of the initial prestress in the construction and coupling joint vicinity. Especially, at a zone x/d=0.2 above the construction joint where at the edge of the member, a quite localized reduced stress state of 1/3 of uniform stress is encountered. Five full-scale test specimens were segmentally constructed and post-tensioned and analytic models is used to verify and validate measured test results. The encountered highly nonuniform stress/strain state in the coupling joint vicinity requires special design consideration for the successful application of tendon couplers.

  • 펄트루젼 FRP 구조용 부재는 많은 유용한 역학적, 물리적 성질 때문에 토목분야에서 구조부재의 매력적인 대체부재로 고려될 수 있다. 그러나 펄트루젼 FRP는 탄성계수가 상대적으로 낮고, 부재의 단면이 복부와 플렌지 등의 얇은 판요소로 구성되어 있기 때문에 압축재로 설계할 때 구조적인 안정성은 매우 중요한 고려사항이 된다. 따라서, 압축을 받는 구조용 부재의 설계를 위해, 판요소의 좌굴 및 후좌굴강도를 고려해야 한다. AISC/LRFD의 강구조 설계기준에서는, 후좌굴강도에 추가적인 단면 내 일정하지 않은 응력분포의 영향을 형상계수(form factor)를 사용하여 고려하고 있다. 이 논문에서는 압축력을 받는 펄트루젼 FRP 구조용 부재의 형상계수를 해석적으로 연구하였으며, 형상계수를 설정하는 과정에 대하여 제안하였다.
