  • A numerical model is represented to calculate the wave fields such as the reflected waves, the transmitted waves and the depth-averaged velocities over submerged breakwaters for the normally incident wave trains of nonlinear mono-chromatic wave and solitary wave. The finite amplitude shallow water equations with the effects of bottom friction are solved numerically in time domain using an explicit dissipative Lax-Wendroff finite difference method. The numerical model is verified by comparisons with the other numerical results and the measured data. It is found that the submerged breakwater may be more useful for protecting the energies of monochromatic waves rather than solitary waves. Finally, the armor stability on submerged breakwater is indirectly analyzed using the hydrodynamic characteristics of flow fields.

  • This paper describes the dynamic shock effects on the pretensioned concrete member by the detensioning using finite element analysis. The investigation was performed by linear and nonlinear dynamic analysis. In nonlinear dynamic analysis, Brittle Cracking Model was applied for concrete behavior. It was shown that the amplitude of stress wave was significantly decreased when time for cutting of tendon was above 0.05sec. The maximum stress values obtained from linear and nonlinear dynamic analysis was nearly same. However, the position forthe maximum tensile stresses were different.

  • Nonlinear parameterization of OLED device from measurements of bias dependence of impedance spectra and parameter extraction using Levenberg-Marquardt complex nonlinear least square regression algorithm based on resistor-capacitor equivalent circuit model enables computer simulation of OLED power driving characteristics in forms of square-wave or sinusoidal output signal at arbitrary conditions. We introduce developed OLED power driving simulation software and discuss transient responses in voltage-or current-controlled operations as well as nonlinear characteristics of OLED, by presenting both the simulation and experimental results. This OLED simulation technique using impedance spectroscopy is extremely useful in predicting performance of the nonlinear device, especially in time-domain analysis of device operation.

  • This study develops an efficient and accurate method for calculating nonlinear diffraction beam fields propagating in fluids or solids. The Westervelt equation and quasilinear theory, from which the integral solutions for the fundamental and second harmonics can be obtained, are first considered. A computationally efficient method is then developed using a multi-Gaussian beam (MGB) model that easily separates the diffraction effects from the plane wave solution. The MGB models provide accurate beam fields when compared with the integral solutions for a number of transmitter-receiver geometries. These models can also serve as fast, powerful modeling tools for many nonlinear acoustics applications, especially in making diffraction corrections for the nonlinearity parameter determination, because of their computational efficiency and accuracy.

  • In this study, a method of leakage detection was proposed to locate leak position for a reservoir pipeline valve system using wavelet coherence analysis for an injected pressure wave. An unsteady flow analyzer handled nonlinear valve maneuver and corresponding experimental result were compared. Time series of pressure head were analyzed through wavelet coherence analysis both for no leak and leak conditions. The leak information can be obtained through either time domain reflectometry or the difference in wavelet coherence level, which provide predictions in terms of leak location. The reconstructed pressure signal facilitates the identification of leak presence comparing with existing wavelet coherence analysis.

  • A brushless DC motor has the high quality of torque output and silence, has been more widely used in industrial area. As the driver and controller of BLDC motor have been more complicated and precise, simulation method has been much used in motor design. And the output characteristics of BLDC motor is determined by the waveform of BACK-KMF in instinct. But because the conventional model of BLDC motor is obtained by approximation of real nonlinear waveform to ideal trapezoidal waveform, the error is occurred in simulation result. Thus in this paper, for the correction of this error in simulation, the model of real nonlinear waveform considered is proposed, and the simulation result is obtained in case of three-phase, four-poles Y-connected, surface mounted permanent magnet BLDC motor.

  • In this paper, finite element method is applied for the numerical analysis of wave height distribution. The mild-slope equation is used as the basic equation. The key of this model is to impose the effect of nonlinear waves. Numerical results are presented and agreed well with the results from experimental measurements and other numerical analysis. The present method to determine wave height distribution can be broadly utilized for the analysis of new harbor and port designs in the future.

  • The ill-posed elliptic wave propagation problems can be transformed into well-posed initial value problems of the reflection and transmission operators characterizing the material structure of the given model by the combination of wave field splitting and invariant imbedding methods. In general, the derived scattering operator equations are of first-order in range, nonlinear, nonlocal, and stiff and oscillatory with a subtle fixed and movable singularity structure. The phase space and path integral analysis reveals that construction and reconstruction algorithms depend crucially on a detailed symbol analysis of the scattering operators. Some information about the singularity structure of the scattering operator symbols is presented and analyzed in the transversely homogeneous limit.

  • This study is to predict accurately the wave induced current accuring by the radiation stress which acts as the driving force around Nearshore structure. For the wave induced current, the depth integrated and time averaged governing equation of an unsteady nonlinear form is derived from the continuity and momentum equation of an incompressible fluid. Numerical solutions are obtained by a finite difference method for the governing equation. In the vicinity of a structure, computed flow patterns show good agreement with the hydraulic experimental data. The numerical results obtained by neglecting the convective term show a large change of alongshore and offshore current.

  • This paper deals the shaking table tests with 1/100 scaled model followed by Scott & Iai(1989)'s similitude law for OO dam main desging section to understand nonlinear behavior characteristics of concrete dam body by earthquake wave. As earthquake wave, Hachinohe and Elcentro waves were used and acceleration and displacements are measured to analyze behaviors of dam body. For ground maximum acceleration range ($0.3^{\sim}0.9g$), the results showed linear behavior regardless of ground maximum acceleration and secured safety of structure. To analyze the behavior of dam after tension cracking, 3cm-notch was placed at the critical section of over-flowing section. As results of applying Hachinohe wave(0.8g), Even though tension cracks were formed at over-flowing section by Hachinohe wave(0.8g), it showed that the dam is stable for supporting upper stream part of water tank of dam.
