Optimization of Neural Network Structure for the Efficient Bushing Model (효율적인 신경망 부싱모델을 위한 신경망 구성 최적화)

  • A bushing component of a vehicle suspension system is tested to capture the nonlinear behavior of rubber bushing element using the MTS 3-axes rubber test machine. The results of the tests are used to model the artificial neural network bushing model. The performances from the neural network model usually are dependent on the structure of the neural network. In this paper, maximum error, peak error, root mean square error, and error-to-signal ratio are employed to evaluate the performances of the neural network bushing model. A simple simulation is carried out to show the usefulness of the developed procedure.

  • A strategy for geostationary orbit (or geostationary earth orbit [GEO]) surveillance based on optical angular observations is presented in this study. For the dynamic model, precise analytical orbit model developed by Lee et al. (1997) is used to improve computation performance and the unscented Kalman filer (UKF) is applied as a real-time filtering method. The UKF is known to perform well under highly nonlinear conditions such as surveillance in this study. The strategy that combines the analytical orbit propagation model and the UKF is tested for various conditions like different level of initial error and different level of measurement noise. The dependencies on observation interval and number of ground station are also tested. The test results shows that the GEO orbit determination based on the UKF and the analytical orbit model can be applied to GEO orbit tracking and surveillance effectively.

  • Conventional hyperbolic model does not satisfactorily predict the overall stress-strain behaviors of various geomaterials. Tatsuoka and Shibuya(1992) suggest the generalized hyperbolic equation(GHE) considering strain dependency and calculated performance is in good agreement with precise triaxial compression test results of stress-strain relations over wide range of strains before peak stress condition in some cases, but GHE model also does not satisfactorily predict stress-strain relations as strain goes on state of peak stress in most cases. For improve a weak point of the GHE, in this study, modified form of generalized hyperbolic equation (MGHE model) is proposed which can predict highly nonlinear stress-strain behavior for various geomaterials from small strain to peak stress condition.

  • A new method identifies coupled fluid-structure system with a reduced set of state variables is presented. Assuming that the structural model is known a priori either from an analysis or a test and using linear transformations between structural and aeroelastic states, it is possible to deduce aerodynamic information from sampled time histories of the aeroelastic system. More specifically given a finite set of structural modes the method extracts generalized aerodynamic force matrix corresponding to these mode shapes. Once the aerodynamic forces are known, an aeroelastic reduced-order model can be constructed in discrete-time, state-space format by coupling the structural model and the aerodynamic system. The resulting reduced-order model is suitable for constant Mach, varying density analysis.

  • In this paper, we analyze the characteristic test results of an MR damper for a cruise bus, and we model the nonlinear hysteretic characteristics of the damper using arctangent and polynomial functions. We establish an experimental model of the MR damper according to the input current, and we set the model parameters using the MATLAB Optimization Toolbox. The model is verified via a computer simulation of a full-car model.

  • This paper is concerned with the nonlinear hyperelastic problem fur the incompressible characteristics of the rubber. Tension sensor is a strain gage type load cell element for a fence intrusion detection system and consists of the sensing part and the rubber housing. The analysis includes an elastic analysis and a hyperelastic analysis of a tension sensor for the deformed shape and variation of the maximum strain on the sensing part with respect to the vertical load. Numerical results show that the hyperelastic model is stiffer and less deformed than the elastic model. Comparing with the experimental test data, we know the hyperelastic model is the better approximation than the elastic model.

  • Nonlinear stress analysis of nuclear containment building wall element is carried out using microscopic material model. The present study mainly focuses on the finite element analysis of the nuclear containment building wall element under biaxial tensile stresses and it evaluates the perfomance of adopted microscopic material model in the membrane energy dominant situation. From the numerical analysis, the adopted material model peforms well and has a good agreement with experiment result. Finally, the result of present study can be severed as a benchmark test when concrete material model is in need of evaluation.

  • In this paper, a blackbox approach is carried out to model the nonlinear dynamic bushing model. One-axis durability test is performed to describe the mechanical behavior of typical vehicle elastomeric components. The results of the tests are used to develop an empirical bushing model with an artificial neural network. The back propagation algorithm is used to obtain the weighting factor of the neural network. Since the output for a dynamic system depends on the histories of inputs and outputs, Narendra's algorithm of 'NARMAX' form is employed in the neural network bushing module. A numerical example is carried out to verify the developed bushing model.

Seismic Response Analysis of Lightly Reinforced Concrete Shear Walls

  • Global and local behaviors of a lightly RC shear walls are investigated in this paper. For the sake of cyclic behaviors, nominal ground accelerations of 0.15 g, 0.40 g and 0.55 g which associated with natural periods of the walls are applied as listed in French CAMUS-2000 shake table test. Modified Kent & Park model, Drucker-Prager model for concrete material and $Giufr\acute{e}$-Menegotto-Pinto model for rebar are used for time history analyses using fiber/solids elements respectively. Alternatively, Eulerian beam analysis are discussed by imposing inelastic hinges at the most possible plastic hinge location using modified Takeda's trilinear model with stiffness reduction. Relative displacements, base shears, bending moments of 5-story shear building with 36-tons of mass under bi-lateral seismic excitation are extracted and compared with EC-8, PS-92 and KBC-09 provisions. Multi-scaled degradation process; material damage, elemental fracture and structural failure in turn is discussed in the view of numerical accuracy, efficiency and limitation depending on three different model-based analyses.

  • This paper presents the modeling and validation of a pile-driver breech fatigue testing system model to replicate actual high pressure in a large caliber gun barrel. A hysteresis damping function was incorporated in the nonlinear impact force model. Test of real pile-driver breech fatigue testing system had been performed for model validation. Comparison of the experimental result and model simulation during impact were made. Numerical studies were performed to evaluate how the actual chamber pressure pattern in the live firing of gun barrel was affected by parameters' variation. Some of the parameters simulated included input velocity, damping coefficient and stiffness. As a result, a variety of actual chamber pressure pattern could be reproduced and controlled through current simulation model.
