  • Public construction companies have strictly followed a rule that they should not work in the wet area such as structural frame for a certain period during the winter season. It is usually known that the non-working period during the winter causes increase of the project duration, and the project cost escalation. Also, it makes negative effects on national economy because it reduces workers income. Therefore, the site work for the structural frame should be performed even during the whiter season. But the site work for the structural frame during that period cannot proceeds in the same way as during other periods, and requires a different method for estimating project duration. Through an analysis of time scheduling mechanism, actual working days are obtained for 1 cycle of typical floors in the structural frame during these periods, and non-working days of 5 years average are calculated based on calendar day using data of 5 years weather forecasts for that season. This study proposes an optimized way of estimating project duration for 1 cycle of typical floors in the structural frame during these periods. This estimating method uses the combined actual working days and non-working days of 5 years' average, and the estimated results are confirmed by being compared with field data. This study is expected to be used in estimating the construction duration of the structural frame during the winter season.

  • In this paper, non working day for the construction project in Cheongju region considering weather condition for 30 years from 1971 to 2000 and 10 years from 1991 to 2000 as statistical periods was estimated. In Cheongju region, there was no remarkable difference between them because non working day for outside and half outside work was 157days and for interior work 144days at statistics for 30 years., and utside and half outside work was 159days and for interior work 142days at statistics for 10 years.. However, non working day due to high temperature is slightly increased, and non working day due to cold weather is slightly decreased in the case that the recent statistical data was used caused by global warming. Non working day due to rainfall was 23 days at statistics for 30 years, and it was 28 days at statistics for 10 years.

  • Underground building constructions are recently more important because the ratio of underground area is increasing in the huge and high-rise building construction projects. For reducing the total building construction periods, it is required to reduce not only the over-ground structural work periods but also the underground structural work periods. Therefore, this study is proposed the non-supporting system forms for single face walls in underground building construction by one of the methods for reducing the underground structural work periods and investigated the applicability of the non-supporting system forms by analyzing the case-study in civil construction project. In regard of construction duration, the results of analyzing the case-study showed that the non-supporting system forms are better than the euro forms with soldier system for single face walls in underground building construction. In addition, it is showed that the cost of these two forms is similar and usage the working space and safety in non-supporting system forms are better that those of the euro forms with soldier system, too.

  • Recently, despite a decrease in the number of working days and an increase in the number of non-working days due to an increase in the abnormal climate and the revision of the Labor Standards Act, a standard construction period reflecting this has not been established. For this reason, even if the appropriate construction period is calculated at the site, there is a situation where delays occur due to unexpected circumstances. Therefore, this study proposes a method of calculating the number of non-working days for railway bridgework construction that reflects changes in construction conditions and climate change and reflects this to railway bridgework construction, and the number of working days was calculated. As a result, the number of non-working days by region and month in Korea was derived, and through this, the necessity of regulations and standards for appropriate construction periods reflecting regional characteristics and characteristics of each construction type was presented.

  • This paper investigates a non Markovian M/G/1 queue with retrial policy, different kind of service rates as well as unsatisfied clients which is inspired by an example of a transmission medium access control in wireless communications. The server tends to work continuously until it finds at least one client in the system. The server will begin its maintenance tasks after serving all of the clients and if the system becomes empty. Provisioning periods in regular working periods and maintenance service periods should be evenly divided. Using supplementary variable technique, the amount of clients in the system as well as in the orbit were found. Further few performance measures of the system were demonstrated numerically.

  • Peach is a typical summer fruit which can be used for various food, processed food, and fragrance ingredients in Korea. Peach is also known as one of serious allergens which make difficulty for farm workers during peach sorting operations. After peach harvesting, it moves to the sorting operations for removing cover material, removing fuzz on peach surface, sorting by size, and packing. The air-samplers and optical particle counters were used to analyze the characteristics of fine dust generation by location and operation characteristics in the experimental peach farms. During removing peach fuzz, the dust concentrations were increased by 6.89 times on total suspended particulate (TSP), 2.13 times on PM-10 (particulate matter), and 1.30 times on PM-2.5 compared to non-working periods, respectively. During removing peach covering materials, the dust concentrations were increased by 3.14 times on TSP, 1.91 times on PM-10, and 1.43 times on PM-2.5 compared to non-working periods, respectively. This represents peach fuzz can be affected to farm workers during peach sorting operations.

  • Working-day calculation with weather factors of construction-site has estimated wethout proper data. They usually estimate it with their own experience and intuition. It causes not only economic loss to time-adjustment but also conflict with each participants. Moreover, weather estimation becomes worse than before, due to tendency of recently weather change. So, in this paper we present optimal estimation method as assessment by period of the arithmetical mean methods. For that, we analyse characteristic of the regions and weather change of temperature and rainfall which affects time.

  • Recent changes of the climate, which caused by global warming, have much effect world-widely. Korea also has struggled with these kinds of weather problems, and construction industry couldn't get away with them, either. However, the research, regarding to these problems, has not been quite settled, yet. Therefore, this study is to find out how the global warming can affect construction periods. As a result, we could recognize that changes of climate, which caused by global warming, also affects non-working days, too. This study is expected to be used as the data to find out the relationship between weather changes and domestic construction industry in the future.

  • The various degradation phenomena, such as the evolution of gases, tan e, moisture content and total acid number in insulation oils of power transformer have been measured and analyzed as a function of aging temperatures and periods. The insulation oils have been degraded at laboratory in the period of 17, 34, and 72 days. We have also extracted the insulation oils from the working power transformers. The dissolved gases (such as CO, CO2, H2, CH4 C2H2---), tane, moisture content and total acid number in laboratory samples and field samples have been measured and characterized. It has been found that gases increase with degradation temperature and tane increases with total acid number while the moisture content does not increase with tane.

  • Animal experiments have been widely conducted in the life sciences for more than a century, and have long been a subject of ethical and societal controversy due to the deliberate infliction of harm upon sentient animals. However, the harmful use of animals may also negatively impact the mental health of researchers themselves. We sought to evaluate the anxiety level of researchers engaged in animal use to analyse the mental stress from animal testing. The State Anxiety Scale of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) was used to evaluate how researchers feel when they conduct animal, as opposed to non-animal, based experiments (95 non-animal and 98 animal testing researchers). The Trait Anxiety Scale of STAI was employed to measure proneness to anxiety, namely the base trait of the researchers. Additionally, the information on sex, age, education, income, and total working periods was collected. While the Trait Anxiety scores were comparable ($41.5{\pm}10.9$ versus $42.9{\pm}10.1$, p = 0.3682, t-test), the State Anxiety scores were statistically significantly higher for animal users than non-animal users ($45.1{\pm}10.7$ versus $41.3{\pm}9.4$, p = 0.011). This trend was consistent for both male and female. Notably, younger animal testers (${\leq}30$ years of age) with less work experience (${\leq}2$ years) and lower income level (${\leq}27,000$ USD) exhibited higher anxiety scores, whereas these factors did not affect the anxiety level of non-animal users. The present study demonstrated that participation in animal experiments can negatively impact the mental health of researchers.
