Objectives: The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the bond strength of 2 universal adhesives used in different application modes to bleached enamel. Materials and Methods: Extracted 160 sound human incisors were used for the study. Teeth were divided into 4 treatment groups: No treatment, 35% hydrogen peroxide, 16% carbamid peroxide, 7.5% carbamid peroxide. After bleaching treatments, groups were divided into subgroups according to the adhesive systems used and application modes (n = 10): 1) Single Bond Universal, etch and rinse mode; 2) Single Bond Universal, self-etch mode; 3) Gluma Universal, etch and rinse mode; 4) Gluma Universal, self-etch mode. After adhesive procedures nanohybrid composite resin cylinders were bonded to the enamel surfaces. All specimens were subjected to shear bond strength (SBS) test after thermocycling. Data were analyzed using a 3-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey post hoc test. Results: No significant difference were found among bleaching groups (35% hydrogen peroxide, 16% carbamid peroxide, 7.5% carbamid peroxide, and no treatment groups) in the mean SBS values. There was also no difference in SBS values between Single Bond Universal and Gluma Universal at same application modes, whereas self-etch mode showed significantly lower SBS values than etch and rinse mode (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The bonding performance of the universal adhesives was enhanced with the etch and rinse mode application to bleached enamel and non-bleached enamel.
An experiment was carried out with 48 IVRI 2CQ rats 6-8 week old, weighing 50-100 g, to study the effect of lead exposure on antioxidant defense, lipid peroxide level, status of thiol groups and concentration of lead in the liver and kidneys at the end of the exposure and also after withdrawal of lead administration. Twenty four rats were given lead at a daily dose rate of 1 mg lead/2 ml of distilled water/kg body weight as lead acetate solution intraperitoneally for a period of 30 days. Another 24 control rats received 2 ml of sterile normal saline solution (0.85% NaCl)/kg body weight in an identical manner. A many-fold increase in concentration of lead was associated with a non-significant (p>0.05) decrease in the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) in the liver (27%) and kidneys (12%) and catalase in kidneys (22%). A significant (p<0.05) increase in lipid peroxide level was recorded in the liver (40%) compared with control values. There were significant (p<0.05) decreases in the total thiol and protein bound thiol contents in liver and an increase in non-protein bound thiol groups in the kidneys of lead exposed rats. During the 10 day observation period after withdrawal of lead administration, no significant change was observed with respect to any of the above parameters indicating that a 10 day withdrawal period was not enough for restoration of normality. It is concluded that the magnitude of response and the resultant changes in the lipid peroxide concentration, and the activities of SOD and catalase were not identical in the liver and kidneys of lead-exposed rats.

We investigated hydrogen peroxide resistance of Escherichia coli possessing acetyl xylan esterase(AxeA) of Streptomyces coelicolor A3(2). The induction of AxeA production by isopropyl-$\beta$-thiogalactoside was confirmed by SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The differences in growth between induced and non-induced E. coli were determined by the changes in optical density of cultures after hydrogen peroxide treatment The lethal effect of hydrogen peroxide was observed for non-induced cultures at all concentrations tested in this study (lmM, 2.5mM and 5mM). However, cultures induced for AxeA production resisted the lethal effect, except at 5mM where cells were killed irrespective of the AxeA production. The axeA induction increased survival against 1.5mM hydrogen peroxide from 59% to 74%. In addition, AxeA producing E. coli showed increased survival at $45^{\circ}C$, near maximum growth temperature. Therefore, it was concluded that AxeA conferred a cross-resistance upon the bacterium against both oxidative- and heat stress.
The microbial contamination in contact lens care systems and conjunctivas of 40 asymptomatic cosmetic soft contact lens wearers was investigated. Patient ages ranged from 19 to 27(mean:22), most of them have used hydrogel contact lenses for less than 1 year, and the ages of lens cases were 1 weeks ~ 3 months (43 %) or 4~6 months (52%). Twenty-seven patients (67%) chemically disinfected their lenses and 8(20 %) used hydrogen peroxide, and 5 used heat to disinfect. Fourteen patients used commercial non-preserved saline, and 26(65%) were using commercial preserved saline. Sixty-two percent of the patients had bacterial contamination of lens case, and 17% had conjunctival contamination. The bacterial contamination rate was highest in lens cases, followed by unpreserved salines, disinfecting chemicals(non-hydrogen peroxide), and conjunctivas. The fungal contamination rate of cases and conjunctivas was 67% and 15%, respectively, and lens case, unpreserved saline, and conjunctiva seemed more susceptible to contamination. The use of hydrogen peroxide for disinfection rather than chemical disinfection was associated remarkabley with decreased contamination of solution itself, and there was no significant difference in contamination rates between hydrogen peroxide care system and other disinfecting systems. Five of lens cases(13%) and 2 conjunctivas(5%) were contaminated with Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Candida albicans were isolated from 11cases (27%) and 5 conjunctivas (12%). Of the organisms that were contaminated lens cases and conjunctivas, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Candida albicans, and Aspergillus fumigatus were isolated from lens cases, whereas Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida albicans, and Aspergillus fumigatus were recorvered from conjunctivas. Fortunately all of the these tested samples showed 0% of Acanthamoeba in this investigation.

The study was based on a three-stage, non-repetitive factorial experiment in which chemical-rotted kenaf fibers were treated separately with hydrogen peroxide concentrations of $0.5\%,\;1\%\;and\;2\%$, with pH solutions of 7, 9 and 11, and treatment times of 30, 60 and 90 minutes. Under optimal conditions, the study was conducted to determine the strength and elongation of kenaf fibers by the addition of chelators, penetrants and surfactants. The hydrogen peroxide concentration, solution pH and treatment time directly affected the strength of kenaf fibers. The hydrogen peroxide concentration, solution pH affected the elongation of kenaf fibers. It was found, however, that the interaction between pH and treatment time, concentration and treatment time, concentration and treatment time and pH affected the strength of kenaf fibers. Also, It was found that the interaction between pH and concentration, concentration and treatment time, concentration and treatment time and pH affected the elongation of kenaf fibers. Under the hydrogen peroxide conditions of $2\%$ concentration, pH 11 and a treatment time of 60 minutes, there were no effects on the strength and elongation of kenaf fibers with the addition of chelator SP, CA.

The surface of various mechanical pulp fibres including thermomechanical pulp (TMP), chemithermomechanical pulp (CTMP), and alkaline peroxide mechanical pulp (APMP) fibres, were characterized using SEM, AFM, and XPS. With SEM and AFM, middle lamella material was observed to be non-fibrillar, patch-like, while fibre secondary wall was observed to have a microfibrillar structure. It was found that after the first-stage refiner, lignin-rich middle lamella remainders are present on the fibre surface of all three pulps, although most of the fibre surfaces expose microfibrillar structure. After the final-stage refining, large amounts of granules are present on the TMP fibre surface. In contrast, most middle lamella remainders remain on the surface of CTMP fibres after final stage refining and even after peroxide bleaching. XPS results have confirmed that the non-fibrillar surface material is the lignin-rich middle lamella remainder., and the remainders of middle lamella contribute to the high surface lignin concentration.
In order to study antioxidative acton of garlic, alliin, scordinin, garlic oil, ethanol fraction and non-kaolin fraction which have been discovered from garlic until now were extracted and isolated, and each fraction was utilized as the experimental materials. Antioxidative action of each fraction was compared through the in vitro and in vivo experiments. Electron donatingability on $\alpha$, $\alpha$-diphenyl-$\beta$picrylhydra-$\chi$yl, the inhibitory effect of lipoperoxide formation by TBA and peroxide value were measured and analyzed. RESULTS : 1. When observed antioxidative ability by EDA value, ethanol fraction of garlic components showed the strongest reaction as 15.25. 2. In vitro experiment with TBA value, garlic oil, alliin and ethanol fracton showed distinctive effect on inhibitory effect of lipoperoxide formation. 3. Comparing with the inhibitory effect of lipoperoxide formation with TBA value in vivo, the ethanol fraction was the most effective in the blood or liver by intraperitoneal administration, whereas the ethanol fraction in the blood and non-kaolin fraction in the liver was most effective each other by orally administration. 4. In vitro experiment with peroxide value, garlic oil was distinctive effect on the inhivitory effect of lipoperoxide formation, which was a similar to the trend of TBA value in vitro. 5. Examining the induction time for the first period of lipoperoxide formation in vitro, garlix oil, ethanol fraction and alliin were effective, which was a similar to the trend of TBA value and peroxide value in vitro.
It has been reported that cigarette smoking increases free radical generation, which can also increase lipid peroxides and deplete antioxidants. The purpose of this study was to determine whether cigarette smoking and other lifestyle choices may affect serum lipid peroxide concentrations, serum antioxidant concentrations such as tocopherol and vitamin C, and serum antioxidant enzyme activity such as glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase. Dietary intakes were assessed by 24-hour recall and survey questionnaires from 48 male non-smokers and 52 male smokers. Overnight fasting blood was collected and measured for individual antioxidant status. The daily vitamin C intakes of smokers tended to be lower than those of non-smokers, and the intakes of both groups were under the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA). Vitamin E intake was sufficient for smokers and non-smokers. Serum lipid peroxide concentrations were no difference among all subjects. The serum $\alpha$-tocopherol concentrations of all subjects were in a normal range, and they were highest in mild smokers (p<0.05). Mean serum vitamin C levels were lowest in heavy smokers (p<0.05). The activities of serum glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase were not significantly different in smokes and non-smokers. In conclusion, smoking did not increase oxidative stress in heathy young men. However, it is desirable for heavy smokers to consume more vitamin C than the RDA sine their serum vitamin C concentrations are relatively low.

Treatment with the enzyme pectinase has been reported to lower the cationic demand of thermomechanical pulp(TMP) bleached with alkaline peroxide in the laboratory. We have extended this discovery to bleached TMP produced industrially, and shown that commercial enzyme preparations can treat pulp within 15 minutes at the at the temperature and pH values prevalent in paper mills. About half of the cationic demand in the bleached pulp can be destroyed by pectinase. Dynamic drainage jar experiments show that the enzyme treatment improves the effectiveness of several cationic polymers to increase retention in the absence of retention aids or with non-ionic polymers, and does not damage the strength properties of the pulp. Pectinase could be easily incorporated into paper machine stock preparation systems to lower the charges of cationic retention aids needed in furnishes containing peroxide-bleached mechanical pulp.

The third stage of the KSLV-II is equipped with the reaction control system that performs three axis-control during non-thrust coasting phase and performs a roll axis control during thrust phase. Toxic propellants such as hydrazine have been used for conventional rocket propulsions, however, recently, more studies have been conducted on the use of non-toxic eco-friendly propellants such as ADN and HAN. Especially, hydrogen peroxide has received a growing focus as an emerging propellant. It is considered an alternative of the toxic propellants because of economic advantage in producing the system, conducting operation test, and evaluation of the test result. In this paper, we describes the design, prototype, testing and evaluation of the test results with the 50 N-level hydrogen peroxide monopropellant thruster system which is currently under development.
