  • The reinforcing effect of C-shape carbon fiber was investigated as comparing to typical round-shape fiber with similar properties. The results show that C-shape fiber reinforced materials have better in almost all aspects of mechanical properties, or 218% in flexural strength, 223% flexural modulus, 157% interlamina shear strength, 227% impact strength, 184% transverse flexural strength and so on. Also in damping characteristics considerably concerned with fatigue life, friction/wear coefficient of a material, C-CF/EP had about 185% greater. In this research, we present the potential of non-circular fiber reinforcing materials by C-shape carbon fiber.

  • Objectives: To describe the progress and influencing factors of Hwa-byung. Methods: Data were collected from semi-structured interviews. The progress of and recovery from Hwa-byung were examined using the collected experiences of eight middle-aged women who suffered from Hwa-byung. For analysis of the data collected, a Consensual Qualitative Research (CQR) methodology was used. Results: Of the eight participants who thought they had Hwa-byung, six were actually Hwa-byung patients and two were non-Hwa-byung patients. Four years later, four of the six Hwa-byung patients recovered, while the Hwa-byung of one patient persisted, and the remaining patient had circular Hwa-byung. Over time, the symptoms of Hwa-byung declined substantially. However, the patients recognized that their disease continuously persisted. Moreover, they thought their symptoms had worsened. Many types of changes were observed during the recovery period, including environmental, physical, cognitive, and emotional changes, as well as changes in attitudes toward others. Recovery factors included the reduction of stimuli, social support, exercise, treatment, control of rumination, and some cognitive changes. Conclusions: To recover from Hwa-byung, it is necessary for patients to experience changes in environment, cognition, and emotion, and to employ self-management in everyday life.

  • In this study, we propose the automatic extraction method of Rescue Requests from Drone Images. A central object is extracted from each image by using central object extraction method[7] before classification. A central object in an images are defined as a set of regions that is lined around center of the image and has significant texture distribution against its surrounding. In this case of artificial objects, edge of straight line is often found, and texture is regular and directive. However, natural object's case is not. Such characteristics are extracted using Edge direction histogram energy and texture Gabor energy. The Edge direction histogram energy calculated based on the direction of only non-circular edges. The texture Gabor energy is calculated based on the 24-dimension Gebor filter bank. Maximum and minimum energy along direction in Gabor filter dictionary is selected. Finally, the extracted rescue requestor object areas using the dominant features of the objects. Through experiments, we obtain accuracy of more than 75% for extraction method using each features.

  • Platysiphon verticillatus and Punctaria glacialis are synonymized by mainly on the basis of shared genes, nine identical sequences. Our hypothesis is that synonymy is erroneous. We posit the many differences of biological features between the two species, their ecological preferences, and occurrences do not support synonymy. Arcticophycus (nov. gen.) is described and contains the new combination Arcticophycus glacialis. Asexual, vegetative, life histories are proposed. Novel reproductive structures are described including previously unknown features of thallus development in the life history of both species. Discovery of the novel Platysiphon cyst, and dual sporangia types in Arcticophycus, is critical in establishing a probable strategy for survival through the Arctic winter for each annual species. Pl. verticillatus is erect, tubular, ovoid to circular in X sections, flaccid, non-parenchymatous, light brown, 10-15 cm high with distinctive photosynthetic hairs in clusters or whorled on the upper one third of the thallus. A. glacialis is erect, planar, robust, parenchymatous, dark brown and hairs absent. The Halosiphon clade is named, consisting of four genera: Halosiphon, Platysiphon, Arcticophycus, and Stschapovia. Occurrence of these genera is identified. Emended are the genus Platysiphon, the family Platysiphonaceae and the order Stschapoviales.

  • There are 17,427 reservoirs in Korea, of which about 96% were built before the mid 1980s. Therefore, aging is severe and reinforcement are necessary. In addition, aged reservoirs, which are more than 50 years old, account for 70% of the total. Therefore, there is a problem such as the collapse of the reservoir and the decrease of the storage capacity due to progress of aging with time. The grouting method using cement is mainly used as maintenance and reinforcement method of old reservoir. However, the grouting method using cement has engineering and environmental problems. In order to solve the engineering and environmental problems of cement grouting method, an eco-friendly grouting material was developed that mixes circular resource grouting binder, high molar ratio sodium silicate and colloidal silica. The engineering and environmental properties of the developed injection materials were evaluated by conducting gel time, homo-gel strength, sea water resistance test and environmental stability evaluation. Also, examined the possibility of replacing OPC existing aged reservoir reinforcement methods. As a result, it was found out that it was better than the conventional cement method in terms of engineering and environment. However, since this study is the result of laboratory test, it is necessary of verify the application at field of aged reservoir.

  • Bacterial outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) typically contain multiple immunogenic molecules that include antigenic proteins, making them good candidates for vaccine development. In animal models, vaccination with OMVs has been shown to confer protective immune responses against many bacterial diseases. It is possible to genetically introduce heterologous protein antigens to the bacterial host that can then be produced and relocated to reside within the OMVs by means of the host secretion mechanisms. Accordingly, in this study we sought to develop a novel platform for recombinant OMV (rOMV) production in the widely used bacterial expression host species, Escherichia coli. Three different lipoprotein signal peptides including their Lol signals and tether sequences-from Neisseria meningitidis fHbp, Leptospira interrogans LipL32, and Campylobactor jejuni JlpA-were combined upstream to the GFPmut2 model protein, resulting in three recombinant plasmids. Pilot expression studies showed that the fusion between fHbp and GFPmut2 was the only promising construct; therefore, we used this construct for large-scale expression. After inducing recombinant protein expression, the nanovesicles were harvested from cell-free culture media by ultrafiltration and ultracentrifugation. Transmission electron microscopy demonstrated that the obtained rOMVs were closed, circular single-membrane particles, 20-200 nm in size. Western blotting confirmed the presence of GFPmut2 in the isolated vesicles. Collectively, although this is a non-optimized, proof-of-concept study, it demonstrates the feasibility of this platform in directing target proteins into the vesicles for OMV-based vaccine development.

  • We perform disk-halo decomposition of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) using a novel HI velocity field extraction method, aimed at better deriving its HI kinematics and thus mass distribution in the galaxy including both baryons and dark matter. We decompose all the line-of-sight velocity profiles of the combined HI data cube of the LMC, taken from the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) and Parkes radio telescopes with an optimal number of Gaussian components. For this, we use a novel tool, the so-called BAYGAUD which performs profile decomposition based on Bayesian MCMC techniques. From this, we disentangle turbulent non-ordered HI gas motions from the decomposed gas components, and produce an HI bulk velocity field which better follows the global circular rotation of the galaxy. From a 2D tilted-ring analysis of the HI bulk velocity field, we derive the rotation curve of the LMC after correcting for its transverse, nutation and precession motions. The dynamical contributions of baryons like stars and gaseous components which are derived using the Spitzer 3.6 micron image and the HI data are then subtracted from the total kinematics of the LMC. Here, we present the bulk HI rotation curve, the mass models of stars and gaseous components, and the resulting dark matter density profile of the LMC.

  • This paper presents the performance and problems in analysis method and testing system of Electronic Speckle Pattern Interfermetry(ESPI) method, in measuring two-dimensional in- plane displacement. The analysis result of measurement by ESPI is quite comparable to that of measurement by strain gauge method. This implieds that the method of ESPI is a very effective tool in non-contact two-dimensional in-plane strain analysis. But there is a controversial point, measurement error. This error is discussed to be affected not by ESPI method itself, but by its analysis scheme of the interference fringe, where the first-order interpolation has been applied to the points of strain measured. Further development of advanced first-order interpolation method is being undertaken for the more precise in-plane strain measurement.

  • Lactobacillus johnsonii 7409N31 was isolated from the feces of a healthy 11-day-old Hanwoo calf from a farm in Geochang-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do, Korea. The genome of the strain was completely sequenced using the PacBio RSII sequencing system, and it was confirmed that it was composed of one circular chromosome. The size of the entire genome was 2,198,442 bp, and it had 35.01 mol% guanine + cytosine (G + C) content and 2,222 protein-coding sequences, 24 rRNA, 3 ncRNA, and 112 tRNA genes. Strain 7409N31 possessed genes encoding enzymes involved in the hydrolysis of both fibrous and non-fibrous carbohydrates. These data provide a comprehensive theoretical understanding for developing industrial probiotic feed additives that improve nutrient digestibility.

  • In the present study, we investigated the velocity distribution, temperature distribution and condensation characteristics of steam jet issuing from four different orifice nozzles with a Reynolds number of approximately 79,000 using the phase Doppler particle analyzer system and a K-type thermocouple. The steam jet discharged from the orifice nozzle has a wider jet width compared to pipe nozzle because of the vena-contracta which can enhance the mixing of steam jet with the ambient air. Therefore, the orifice jet showed less condensation due to its wideness, resulting in small velocity decay rate and large temperature decay rate due to momentum conservation and decreased latent heat release compared to pipe nozzle, respectively. Also, the wider jet width of the orifice jet resulted in larger velocity and temperature spread rate compared to the pipe jet. In addition, the increase in the aspect ratio of the orifice jet led to more condensation and larger velocity spread rate and temperature spread rate due to both the vena-contracta and axis-switching effect, resulting in the increase of jet entrainment.
