  • We present performance of artificial neural network multivariate classifier in identifying non-astrophysical origin noise transients from the gravitational wave channel of Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO). LIGO has successfully conducted six science runs, achieving the sensitivity as planned and producing many fruitful scientific results. It has been well observed that the detector noise is non-Gaussian and non-stationary, which results in large excess of noise transients called glitches arising from instrumental and environmental artifacts. Great efforts have been committed to reduce the glitches by tuning the detector instruments and by vetoing them but further improvement is still needed. To this end, there have been efforts to incorporate data from hundreds of auxiliary, physical and environmental channels into identifying the glitches in the gravitational wave channel. We introduce a multivariate classification method using Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) that efficiently handles large number of variables. In this poster, we present preliminary results of the application of our ANN algorithm to data from LIGO's Science Run 4 and compare its performance with conventional vetoing method.

  • The analysis of the radiation effect on matter has been performed using stochastic methods. Recently, It was discovered that the detector pulses of radiation can be analysed using deterministic method that utilizes the chaotic behaviour with an attractor found in a noise region. We acquired a time series for pulse tram of Am-241 using scintillation detector and reconstructed a phase space, then performed new analysis for the radiation detection signal by applying embedding theory, Lyapunov exponent, correlation dimension, autocorrelation dimension, and power spectrum.

  • In this paper, optical noise effect is reduced by using the loss characteristics of plastic fibers in an optical wireless system. The attenuation coefficient of a plastic fiber for the signal is different from that f3r the noise light, and the length difference between two fibers to the 2PD's behaves like a discriminative element. It is possible to eliminate the optical noise effect and detect only the signal without optical filters. The signal to noise ratio in a differential detector using fibers was 9.7 dB higher than in a single photodiode without optical fiber.

  • This paper presents a new impulsive noise detection algorithm in speech signal. The proposed method employs the frequency domain characteristic of the impulsive noise to improve the detection accuracy while avoiding the false-alarm problem by the pitch of the speech signal. Furthermore, we proposed time-frequency domain impulsive noise detector that utilizes both the time and frequency domain parameters which minimizes the false-alarm problem by mutually complementing each other. As the result, the proposed time-frequency domain detector shows the best performance with 99.33 % of detection accuracy and 1.49 % of false-alarm rate.

  • In this ppaer, we propose a new detector based on the median-shift sign, and then investigate its asymptotic and finite sample-size performance. We call it the median-shift sign (MSS) detector, which is an extension of the classical sign detector. First, we consider the asymptotic opti$$\mu$ median shift values and their characteristics. Next, we consider the asymptotic relative efficiency of the MSS detectors. we then consider the problem of detecting known signals in noise of known probability density function, and the problem of detecting known signals when only partial information is available on the noise.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient scene based non-uniformity correction algorithm which performs the offset correction using the uniform obtained from input scenes for Infrared camera. In general, pixel outputs of a infrared detector can not be uniform. Therefore, the non-uniformity correction procedure need to be performed to make the image outputs uniform. A typical non-uniformity correction method uses a black body at the laboratory to obtain the output of the infrared detector's pixels for two temperatures, HOT and COLD, and calculates the non-uniformity correction parameters. However, output characteristics of the Infrared detector changes while the Infrared camera is operated, the fixed pattern noise of the Infrared detector and dead pixels are generated. To remove the noise, the offset correction is generally performed. The offset correction procedure usually need the additional device such as a thermo-electric cooler, shutter, or non-uniformity correction lens. Therefore, we introduce a general scene based non-uniformity correction technique without additional equipment, and then we propose an improved non-uniformity correction algorithm based on image to solve the problem of the existing technique.

  • Dual-energy X-ray imaging (DEI) techniques can provide X-ray images that a certain material is suppressed or emphasized by combining two X-ray images obtained from two different x-ray spectrum. In this paper, a single-shot DEI, which uses stacked two detectors (i.e., multilayer detector), is proposed to reduce the patient dose and increase throughput in angiography. The polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) and aluminum (Al) were selected as two basis materials for material decomposition, and material-specific images are reconstructed as a vector combination of these two materials. We investigate the contrast and noise performance of material-decomposed images using iodine phantoms with various concentrations and diameters. The single-shot DEI shows comparable performances to the conventional dual-shot DEI. In particular, the single-shot DEI shows edge enhancement in material-decomposed images due to the different spatial-resolution characteristics of upper and lower detectors. This study could be useful for designing the multilayer detector including scintillators and energy-separation filter for angiography purposes.

  • Readout circuit is to convert signal occurred in a defector into suitable signal for image signal processing. In general, it has to possess functions of impedance matching with perception element, amplification, noise reduction and cell selection. It also should satisfies conditions of low-power, low-noise, linearity, uniformity, dynamic range, excellent frequency-response characteristic, and so on. The technical issues in developing image processing equipment for focal plane way (FPA) can be categorized as follow: First, ultraviolet (UV) my detector material and fine processing technology. Second, ReadOut IC (ROIC) design technology to process electric signal from detector. Last, package technology for hybrid bonding between detector and ROIC. ROIC enables intelligence and multi-function of image equipment. It is a core component for high value added commercialization ultimately. Especially, in development of high-resolution image equipment ROIC, it is necessary that high-integrated and low-power circuit design technology satisfied with design specifications such as detector characteristic, signal dynamic range, readout rate, noise characteristic, ceil pitch, power consumption and so on. In this paper, we implemented a $8\times8$ FPA prototype ROIC for reduction of period and cost. We tested unit block and overall functions of designed $8\times8$ FPA ROIC. Also, we manufactured ROIC control and image boards, and then were able to verify operation of ROIC by confirming detected image from PC's monitor through UART(Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter) communication.
