This study was conducted to investigate the change of starch, total sugar, nicotine, and total nitrogen contents in green leaves at various stages of maturity(50-106 days after transplanting), and to relate between chemical constituents for flue-cured tobacco (Cv NC82 and BY 4). For the two cultivars and all stalk positions, starch contents increased with maturation, but decreased with senescence. Nicotine contents increased, while total nitrogen contents decreased with delay of harvest. Total sugar contents had a tendency of decrease. For the two cultivars , starch correlated negatively with total nitrogen, and positively with nicotine. Total nitrogen correlated negatively with nicotine. A delay of 5 to 7 days than conventional harvesting time would reach to the better ratio of the reducing sugar to nicotine ratio.
CW-4Y was identified as Stenotrophomonas sp. by morphological and physiological characteristics, and phylogenetic analysis of its 16S rDNA gene sequence. Nitrogen removal by CW-4Y was analyzed in relation to the ammonium concentration, presence of organic carbon, carbon source, and carbon-to-nitrogen ratio (C/N). Stenotrophomonas CW-4Y has heterotrophic nitrification and aerobic denitrification abilities. Stenotrophomonas CW-4Y utilized only glucose as carbon sources, and heterotrophic nitrification and aerobic denitrification were observed regardless of the type of nitrogen source. The maximum ammonium removal rate of CW-4Y was 80 $mg-N{\cdot}L^{-1}{\cdot}d^{-1}$ and its denitrification rate of 192 $mg-N{\cdot}L^{-1}{\cdot}d^{-1}$ at $NO_3{^-}-N$ (about 280 ppm) in shake culture experiments at a C/N ratio of about 15 was about 30 times higher than those of other bacteria with the same ability.
Dry matter production, leaf area growth and total nitrogen changes were studied in Glycine max. soybean communities, which were grown in sandy loam soils controlled to provide various moisture levels, i.e., 5-7%(level 1), 8-10%(level 2), 11-13%(level 3), 14-15%(lev디 4), 17-20%(level 5) and 22-24%(level 6). A summary of the results is shown. The maximum dry matter production of leaves, stems and nodules and the maximum leaf area per unit area were at level 5, but the maximum of root dry matter production was at level 4. Total nitrogen content of the soybean plant decreased with growth, but each level of soil moisture content also showed a little difference. Water content of the plant decreased with plant age and soil water deficiency, especially in roots and nodules. Nodule formation increased in proportion to soil moisture content. total nitrogen content of the soil on which the soybeans grew, increased from 0.23% before sowing to 0.30% at 100 days after sowing. It seems that soil water content acts as a linear factor in the elongation or dry weight increase of shoots and roots until increasing to level 5. Considering the pattern of plant growth through analysis of the shoot and root dry weight ratio, or the photosynthetic organ and non-photosynthetic organ dry weight ratio, the asymptote of plant growth at a high soil water content exceeded that at a low soil water content.

A laboratory experiment was performed to investigate simultaneous removal of phosphorus and nitrogen from raw sewage by intermittently aerated activated sludge process packed with aluminum and silver plate. Two continuous experimental process, i.e. an intermittently aerated activated sludge process, and an intermittently aerated activated sludge process with an aluminum and silver plate packed into the reactor were compared. The pitting corrosion of aluminum does not affect the performance of the biological treatment. The amounts of Al eluted from aluminum plate 17 mg to 60.6 mg in this experimental conditions, and Al/P mole ratio were from 3.31 to 11.25. The total nitrogen removal efficiency in Run E were $60.6\%$ at the HRT of 12 hours. The effluent $PO_4-P$ concentration as low as $1.0\;mg/\iota$ could have been obtained during the continuous experiment in Run E at HRT of 12 hours.
AlN(Aluminium Nitride) thin films were prepared using by RF sputtering method on the Si(100) and Si(111) substrates as the parameters of the substrate temperature, RF power, sputtering duration and the $N_2$/Ar ratio and investigated by X-ray diffraction, IR spectrometry, n&k analyzer. For the Si(100) substrate, the AlN thin films of (101) orientation were obtained under the conditions of room temperature and the nitrogen of 60 vol.%. For the Si(111) substrate, the (002) AlN thin films were obtained under the nitrogen of 100 vol.%. In case of the thin film prepared in the condition of above 60 vol.% of the nitrogen, the average value of the surface roughness of the film was 151$\AA$. From the changes of the half widths of E$_1$[TO] phonon bands at the wavenumber of 680$cm^{-1}$ /, it were compared of the crystallinities of the films which were grown under the different conditions. The thicknesses of AlN films were decreased dramatically in the region of the nitrogen of 40~60 vol.%. Its due to the nitridation of the Al target surface and getting low of the sputtering yield by the $N_2$/Ar ratio being increased.
The objective of this study was to determine the optimal operation conditions in an anoxic oxic process to eliminate both organic and nitrogen matters in swine wastewater. For the purpose of this, the removal efficiency was evaluated with various HRTs and internal recycling ratio. During the whole 580 days of experiment, HRTs had been gradually decreased in an order of 20, 14, 12 and l0days, and the internal recycle ratio was kept at 20Q. So as to determine the effect of the internal recycle ratio on the nitrogen removal, the internal recycle ratio had been gradually increased from 20Q to 50Q while HRT was maintained at 12days. As a result, it was shown that the removal efficiency of organic matter was above 95% regardless of changing of HRTs. The average influent concentration of TCODcr and SCODcr were 24,854 mg/L and 18,920 mg/L, respectively. Average removal efficiency of TKN was shown to be nearly 98% when HRT was kept at 12days; however, the $NH_4{^+}-N$ concentration of effluent was shown to be increased when the loading rate of $NH_4{^+}-N$ was increased to $0.602 kgNH_4{^+}-N/m^3$-day by means of decreasing HRT to 10days. It was concluded that nitrogen loading rates should be more considered rather than organic loading rates in case of determining an optimal HRT. When gradually increasing the internal recycle ratio from 20Q to 50Q, the removal efficiency of organic matters and TKN were 96% and 98%, respectively so that no significant changes in removal efficiency was detected. However, when the internal recycle ratio was kept at 50Q, it was revealed that the $NO_3-N$ concentration of effluent seemed to drop and the average $NO_3-N$ concentration of effluent was around 52 mg/L.
A field experiment was conducted to find out the effects of field productivity, variety and nitrogen rate on the yield, quality, chemical constituents and physical properties of burley cured leaf in three field with different productivity(Degree of field productivity: A ; high, B ; medium, C : low) during successive two years(1988~89). The yield and quality were remarkably lowered when nitrogen fertilizer being applied much in low productive field. As compared with Burley 21, KB101 showed high yield, particularly the yield of KB101 in low productive field was relatively high. The effect of nitrogen rate on the yield was somewhat different according to field productivity and production year. When the nitrogen fertilizer being applied above 22.5kg/10a, the added nitrogen had no effect on the yield. Total nitrogen content of cured leaf grown in low productive field was high while total alkaloid was low, therefore total alkaloid/total nitrogen ratio was remarkably low. The lightness, red and yellow color of cured leaf grown in low productive field was remarkably low. As compared with Burley 21, the contents of total alkaloid and total nitrogen and shatter resistance index of cured leaf was somewhat low, while the filling power, lightness, red and yellow color were slightly high. Total nitrogen content of cured leaf was increased remarkably by nitrogen addition, but total alkaloid was not increased though the nitrogen fertilizer being applied above 22.5kg/10a. The filling power and shatter resistance index of cured leaf grown in high nitrogen plot, and the lightness and yellow color were low while the red color was relatively high. It comes into question that the visual quality being increased as well as increment of yield and nitrogenous compounds by nitrogen addition in high productive field. In low productive field, it is considerable that nitrogen addition for high yield should be prohibited because it causes the decrement of yield and quality, on the contrary.

The effect of the COD/N ratio on denitrification characteristics was evaluated for the development of a denitrification process. Activated sludge, acclimated to an anoxic condition, was used as the denitrifier consortium (mixture of denitrifying organisms) for enhanced nitrogen removal in a recirculating aquarium system. Synthetic wastewater containing nitrate was used as the influent solution and glucose was used as the carbon source for denitrification. The COD/N ratio varied within a range of 1.5-7.2. The denitrification efficiency was higher than 97% even at a COD/N ratio of 1.5. Under a theoretical COD/N ratio of 3.0, nitrite was detected, however, the amount was less than 1% of the total influent nitrogen. The number of both nitrate-reducing bacteria and denitrifying bacteria reached $3.5{\times}10^5/ml$ with a COD/N ratio of 1.5 after 45 days of operation.
This study was performed to provide the information of the combustion characteristics of n-butanol fuel in accordance with the n-heptane fuel mixing ratio. The closed homogeneous reactor model was used for the analysis. The analysis conditions were set to 800 K of the initial temperature, 20 atm of initial pressure and 1.0 of equivalence ratio. The results of analysis were compared in terms of combustion temperature, combustion pressure, CO, Soot and $NO_X$ emissions. The results of combustion and exhaust emission characteristics showed that ignition delay was decreased and the combustion temperature was increased as the n-heptane mixing ratio was increased. Also, the carbon monoxide(CO) was slightly decreased however, the soot and nitrogen oxides($NO_X$) increased a little in accordance with the n-heptane fuel mixing ratio. In addition, the pressure difference was almost the same in any conditions.
$TiO_2$ nanowires were grown by thermal oxidation of TiO powder in an oxygen and nitrogen gas environment at $1000^{\circ}C$. The ratio of $O_2$ to $N_2$ in an ambient gas was changed to investigate the effect of the gas ratio on the growth of $TiO_2$nanowires. The oxidation process was carried out at different $O_2$/$N_2$ ratios of 0/100, 25/75, 50/50 and 100/0. No nanowires were formed at $O_2$/$N_2$ ratios of less than 25/75. When the $O_2$/$N_2$ ratio was 50/50, nanowires started to form. As the gas ratio increased to 100/0, the diameter and length of the nanowires increased. The X-ray diffraction pattern showed that the nanowires were $TiO_2$ with a rutile crystallographic structure. In the XRD pattern, no peaks from the anatase and brookite structures of $TiO_2$were observed. The diameter of the nanowires decreased along the growth direction, and no catalytic particles were detected at the tips of the nanowires which suggests that the nanowires were grown with a vapor-solid growth mechanism.
