  • This paper presents a 3-level, 2-level SVPWM technique with 100 kHz switching using Verilog HDL, one of the languages of FPGA. In the case of IGBT devices mainly used in inverters, they have a switching frequency around 20kHz. Recent research and development of next-generation power semiconductor devices such as GAN has enabled switching of more than 100kHz, which can miniaturize power converters, and apply various new algorithms due to the injection of harmonics. In the existing system using the IGBT, the control using the DSP is common, but the controller configuration for 100 kHz switching requires the use of FPGA. Therefore, this paper explains the theory and implementation of SVPWM applied to two-level and three-level inverters using FPGAs and verifies the performance through the output waveform. In addition, this paper implements 3-level SVPWM by using only one carrier instead of using two carriers in the conventional method.

  • We prepared the PLT(28) thin film by using sol-gel method and investigated the structure and electrical properties of the film. With the XRD and AFM analyses, it is found that PLT(28) thin film annealed at 6sot has a complete perovskite structure and its surface roughness is about 22$\AA$. We prepared PLT(28) thin film on the Pt/TiO$_{x}$SiO$_2$/Si substrate, in which the specimen has a planar capacitor structure, and analyzed the electrical properties of PLT(28) thin film. In result, PLT(28) thin film has a paraelectric phase and its dielectric constant and loss tangent at 10kHz are 761 and 0.024, respectively. Also, the storage charge density and leakage current density of PLT(28) thin film at W are 134fC/$\mu$m2 and 1.01 $\mu$A/cm2, respectively. As a result of this, we concluded that the PLT(28) thin film is a promising material to be used as a capacitor dielectrics for next generation DRAM.M.

  • In this study, a hybrid metals such as copper (Cu) and nickel (Ni) coated carbon fibers (Ni-Cu/CFs) was prepared by wet laid method to develop a randomly oriented sheet material for high-efficiency electromagnetic interference shielding with the enhanced durability. The prepared sheet materials show a high electromagnetic interference shielding efficiency of 69.4 to 93.0 dB. In addition, the hybrid metals coated Ni-Cu/CFs sheets showed very high durability with harsh chemical/thermal environments due to the effective corrosive and mechanical resistances of Ni surface. In this context, the Ni-Cu/CF sheet possesses longer service life than the Cu/CF sheet, that is, 1.7 times longer.

  • Objective: The aim of this study is to provide a current knowledge of the multiple issues regarding motion effects on crew performance. Background: The motions of the ship may create motion sickness, nausea and vomit. Also, these motions also disturb the balance of crew members, increase the energy expenditure of crew for shipboard work, and result in increased levels of injury and fatigue. However, the motion effects of the ship on crew performance has not been thoroughly investigated. Method: Participants(N=10) were engaged in an experiment in 2 experimental environments(training ship and ship handling simulator) and 2 navigational conditions(day and night). The COP(Center of Pressure) data were recorded as an objective measure of postural balance control and the SSQ(Simulator Sickness Questionnaire) was used as a subjective measure of sickness. Results: The results showed that COP has a no significant difference based on experimental environments, but significant effect on SSQ. Conclusion: During the virtual simulator navigation, subjects showed significant SSQ level changes, which included decreased SSQ data. But, there is no significant difference of COP between training ship and ship handling simulator. Application: The results of this study could be applied to the next generation of ship design to decrease effect of motion at sea and to increase performance of ship crew.

  • Base isolation is considered as a seismic protective system in the design of next generation Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs). If seismic isolation devices are installed in nuclear power plants then the safety under a seismic load of the power plant may be improved. However, with respect to some equipment, seismic risk may increase because displacement may become greater than before the installation of a seismic isolation device. Therefore, it is estimated to be necessary to select equipment in which the seismic risk increases due to an increase in the displacement by the installation of a seismic isolation device, and to perform research on the seismic performance of each piece of equipment. In this study, modified NRC-BNL benchmark models were used for seismic analysis. The numerical models include representations of isolation devices. In order to validate the numerical piping system model and to define the failure mode, a quasi-static loading test was conducted on the piping components before the analysis procedures. The fragility analysis was performed by using the results of the inelastic seismic response analysis. Inelastic seismic response analysis was carried out by using the shell finite element model of a piping system considering internal pressure. The implicit method was used for the direct integration time history analysis. In addition, the collapse load point was used for the failure mode for the fragility analysis.

  • The response characteristics and suppression of flow-induced vibrations of rectangular prisms with various width-to-depth ratios were experimentally investigated. The prisms were rigid and elastically mounted at both ends to enable constrained torsional vibrations only. The present study focused on torsional vibrations, one of the three types of flow-induced vibrations generated in a rectangular prism. First, the response characteristics of torsional vibrations generated in rectangular prisms were investigated by free-vibration tests. It was found that the response characteristics of torsional vibrations generated in rectangular prisms could be classified into six patterns depending on the width-to-depth ratio. Next, the response characteristics of torsional vibrations observed in the free-vibration tests were reproduced by forced-vibration tests, and the mechanisms by which the three types of flow-induced vibrations, low-speed torsional flutter, vortex excitation and high-speed torsional flutter, are generated in the rectangular prisms were elucidated on the basis of characteristics of fluid forces and visualized flow patterns. Experiments were also carried out to establish an effective method for suppressing flow-induced vibrations generated in the rectangular prisms, and it was found that low-speed torsional flutter and high-speed torsional flutter could be suppressed by placing a small normal plate upstream of the prism, which results in suppression of the alternating rolling-up of the shear layers separating from the leading edges of the prism. It was also found that vortex excitation could be suppressed by placing a splitter plate downstream of the prism, which results in suppression of the generation of wake vortices.

  • The advent of massively parallel sequencing, also called next-generation sequencing (NGS), has dramatically influenced cancer genomics by accelerating the identification of novel molecular alterations. Using a whole genome sequencing (WGS) approach, we identified somatic coding and noncoding variants that may contribute to leukemogenesis in 11 adult Korean acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients, with serial tumor samples (primary and relapse) available for 5 of them; somatic variants were identified in 187 AML-related genes, including both novel (SIN3A, C10orf53, PTPRR, and RERGL) and well-known (NPM1, RUNX1, and CEPBA) AML-related genes. Notably, SIN3A expression shows prognostic value in AML. A newly designed method, referred to as "hot-zone" analysis, detected two putative functional noncoding variants that can alter transcription factor binding affinity near PPP1R10 and SRSF1. Moreover, the functional importance of the SRSF1 noncoding variant was further investigated by luciferase assays, which showed that the variant is critical for the regulation of gene expression leading to leukemogenesis. We expect that further functional investigation of these coding and noncoding variants will contribute to a more in-depth understanding of the underlying molecular mechanisms of AML and the development of targeted anti-cancer drugs.

  • The Internet of Things (IoT), which has recently attracted attention as next-generation IT industry, is based on a wired and wireless network platform that can connect various Things. However, it is challenging to implement the IoT platform because of the heterogeneity of the network. Particularly, the ZigBee transmission may be significantly harmed due to Wi-Fi with the relatively much higher power, and this is one of the reason making the platform implementation difficult. In this paper, the ZigBee transmission is measured and analyzed by the BEB algorithm for finding the slot time when ZigBee can transmit, and an actual transmission happens stochastically depending on the network environment. The simulation results show that it guarantees high success rate of the ZigBee transmission by overcoming Wi-Fi interference in the 2.4 GHz frequency band.

  • NGI(Next Generation Internet) is characterized by QoS(Quality of Service) and high speed transmission. Recently, DiffServ and MPLS become most influential NGI architecture. To guarantee end-to-end QoS, it is essential for NGI to interwork MPLS with DiffServ. Here, MPLS WG(Working Group) in IETF(Internet Engineering Task Force) proposed the method of E-LSP(EXP inferred-PSC LSPs) and L-LSP(Label-Only-Inferred PSC LSPs), but both of them have serious problems to satisfy perfect interworking. In this paper, we proposed an extended E-LSP architecture that supports Perfect DiffServ class and experimental function in MPLS such as ECN(Explicit Congestion Notification) capability. We verify that the proposed E-LSP architecture improves QoS in NGI by using ns2 simulator.
