Flush Air Data Sensing system (FADS) estimates air data states using pressure data measured at the surface of flight vehicles. The FADS system does not require intrusive probes, so it is suitable for high performance aircrafts, stealth vehicles, and hypersonic flight vehicles. In this study, calibration procedures and solution algorithms of the FADS for a sphere-cone shape vehicle are presented for the prediction of air data from subsonic to supersonic flights. Five flush pressure ports are arranged on the surface of nose section in order to measure surface pressure data. The algorithm selects the concept of separation for the prediction of flow angles and the prediction of pressure related variables, and it uses the pressure model which combines the potential flow solution for a subsonic flow with the modified Newtonian flow theory for a hypersonic flow. The CFD code which solves Euler equations is developed and used for the construction of calibration pressure data in the Mach number range of 0.5~3.0. Tests are conducted with various flight conditions for flight Mach numbers in the range of 0.6~3.0 and flow angles in the range of -10°~+10°. Air data such as angle of attack, angle of sideslip, Mach number, and freestream static pressure are predicted and their accuracies are analyzed by comparing predicted data with reference data.
Coil embolization technique has been used recently to treat cerebral aneurysms. When a giant or a multilobular aneurysm are treated by roils, filling an aneurysm sac completely with coils is difficult and partial blocking of an aneurysm sac is inevitable. Blood flow characteristics, which nay affect the embolization process of an aneurysm sac, are changed by the locations of coils for the Partially blocked aneurysms. Blood flow fields are also influenced by the geometry of a parent vessel. In order to suggest the coil locations effective for aneurysm embolization, the blood flow fields of lateral aneurysm models were analyzed for the different coil locations and parent vessel geometries. Three dimensional pulsatile flow fields are analyzed by numerical methods considering non-Newtonian viscosity characteristics of blood. Flow rate into the aneurysm sac (inflow rate) and wall shear stress, which are suspected as flow dynamic factors influencing aneurysm embolization, are also calculated. Inflow rates were smaller and the low wall shear stress zones were larger in the neck blocked models compared to the dome blocked models. Smaller inflow and larger low wall shear stress zones in the distal neck blocked model imply that the distal neck should be the effective coil locations for aneurysm embolization.

The behavior of polystyrene in the strip cavity during the packing and cooling stages for an injection molding process is examined numerically. The mathematical model is based on the unified post-filling model and finite element/finite difference methods are used to solve simultaneously the continuity, momentum and energy equations coupled to an equation of state. Simulated results show that the density of the molded parts is lower in the core than at the skin, and that the hotter the melt or the higher the packing pressure, the higher the density in the core. The density variation during the packing stage comes up to 50% compared with the total density variation. Also, the density variation after gate sealing and the effect of cooling rate on the equation of state are negligible.
First, methods of numerical analysis of gas-particle flows is classified into micro, meso and macro scale approaches based on the concept of multi-scale mechanics. Next, the explanation moves on to discrete particle simulation where motion of individual particles is calculated numerically using the Newtonian equations of motion. The author focuses on the cases where particle-to-particle interaction has significant effects on the phenomena. Concerning the particle-to-particle interaction, two cases are considered: the one is collision-dominated flows and the other is the contact-dominated flows. To treat this interaction mathematically, techniques named DEM(Distinct Element Method) or DSMC (Direct Simulation Monte Carlo) have been developed DEM, which has been developed in the field of soil mechanics, is useful for the contact -dominated flows and DSMC method, developed in molecular gas flows, is for the collision-dominated flows. Combining DEM or DSMC with CFD (computer fluid dynamics), the discrete particle simulation becomes a more practical tool for industrial flows because not only the particle-particle interaction but particle-fluid interaction can be handled. As examples of simulations, various results are shown, such as hopper flows, particle segregation phenomena, particle mixing in a rotating drum, dense phase pneumatic conveying, spouted bed, dense phase fluidized bed, fast circulating fluidized bed and so on.
Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and poly(${\varepsilon}$-caprolactone) (PCL) blends with various components for melt-blown non-wovens were prepared by a twin-screw extruder. Tributyl citrate (TBC) was added in order to improve the miscibility between PLA and PCL. The results showed that small circular particles of PCL were dispersed in PLA matrix uniformly. The addition of PCL had the heterogeneous nucleation effect on the crystallization of PLA and decreased thermal stability of PLA. The flow of pure PLA and blends approached to Newtonian liquid at a low shear rate and expressed more obvious viscoelasticity at a high shear rate.
Superplastic deformation behavior of a Zn-0.3 wt.% Al was investigated. Grain sizes of $1{\mu}m$ and $10{\mu}m$ were obtained by a thermomechanical treatment. A series of load relaxation and tensile tests were conducted at various temperatures ranging from RT ($24^{\circ}C$) to $200^{\circ}C$. A large elongation of 1400% was obtained at room temperature in the specimens with the grain size of $1{\mu}m$. In the case of specimens with the grain size of $10{\mu}m$, relatively lower elongation at room temperature was obtained and, as the temperature increases above $100^{\circ}C$, a high elongation of about 400 % has been obtained at $200^{\circ}C$ under the strain rate of $2{\times}10^{-4}/s$. Dynamic materials model (DMM) has been employed to explain the contribution from GBS of Zn-Al alloy. Power dissipation efficiency for GBS was evaluated as above 0.4 and found to be very close to the unity as strain rate decreased and temperature increased, suggesting that GBS could be regarded as Newtonian viscous flow.
For the screening of a new functional exopolysaccharide, sugar composition and rheological properties of exopolysaccharide produced from Xanthomonas sp. EPS-1 were investigated. The average molecular weight of exopolysaccharide was determined to be approximately 2.l $\times$ 10$^{6}$ dalton. The new exopolysaccharide EPS-1 was composed of mannose, glucose, galactose and gluco- samine. IR analysis showed that the exopolysaccharide EPS-1 was assumed to be polymer with carbohydrates. NMR analysis showed that exopolysaccharide EPS-1 was presumed to be 4 units of sugar and trace of CH$_{3}$ group. Exopolysaccharide EPS-1 solution showed a characteristic of non-Newtonian fluid properties. At the concentration of 1.0%, the consistency index and the flow behavior index were shown at 10.8352 poise-sec and 0.4419, respectively. All dispersions were pseudoplastic fluids described accurately by Power-law model. Exopolysaccharide EPS-1 was highly viscous at low concentration, with good stability over a wide range of pH 5 to 13. The excellent compatibility of exopolysaccharide EPS-1 was represented with salts such as sodium chloride.

This study presents the application of a polymer behavior model that considers fluid mechanics and heat transfer effects in a deposition system. The analysis of the polymer fluid properties is very important in the fabrication of precise microstructures. This fluid behavior model involves the calculation of velocity distribution and mass flow rates that include the effect of heat loss in the needle. The effectiveness of the proposed method was demonstrated by comparing estimated mass fluid rates with experimental values. The mass fluid rates under various process conditions, such as pressure, temperature, and needle size, reflected the actual deposition state relatively well, and the assumption that molten polycaprolactone(PCL) is a non-Newtonian fluid was reasonable. The successful fabrication of three-dimensional microstructures demonstrated that the model is valid for predicting the polymer behavior characteristics in the microstructure fabrication process. The results of this study can be used to investigate the effect of various parameters on fabricated structures before turning to experimental approaches.
The slotted plate technique has previously been shown to be a successful method for directly measuring the static yield stress of suspensions. In this study, we further establish the usefulness of the slotted plate device as a rheometer especially at low shear rates, taking advantage of the extremely low speeds of the slotted plate technique. Newtonian fluids, a shear thinning fluid, and yield stress fluids were tested using the slotted plate device and the results were compared with those from a commercial rheometer using different standard flow geometries. The relationship between the stress on the plate and the viscosity for the slotted plate device obtained by dimensional analysis (drag) predicts a linear relationship between the force at the plate and the plate speed, consistent with the experimental data. The slotted plate device can measure viscosities at very low shear rates. The apparent viscosity - shear-rate data obtained from the slotted plate device are complementary to those obtained using a commercial rheometer. That is : the slotted plate can measure viscosity in the shear rate range $10^{-7}<\dot{\gamma}<10^{-3}\;s^{-1}$, while the commercial rheometer measures viscosity at shear rates higher than $10^{-3}\;s^{-1}$.
The surface of rutile titania nanoparticles was chemically modified by reacting with alkoxy silane. The surface and rheological properties in silicone oil having a wide range of viscosity were investigated. Total surface free energy($\gamma_S$) of the titania particles decreased from 53.12 to 26.94 mJ/$m^2$ as the silane used for surface treatment was increased from 0 to 5.0 wt$\%$. The surface free energy of neat silane was 25.5 mJ/$m^2$, which is quite close to that oftitania particles treated with 5.0 wt$\%$ silane. Due to the hydrophobic nature oftreated-titania, the contact angle was accordingly higher for polar solvent in the order of water>ethylene glycol> formamide>$\alpha$-bromonaphthalene. In sum of rheological behavior, as the applied shear stress or viscosity of the silicone oil increased, the titania particles tend to form layers and agglomerated clusters, showing shear-thinning and shear-thickening behaviors, sequentially. A good dispersion of discrete titania particles obeying a Newtonian flow behavior was achieved at a surface energy or low concentration of silane-treated titania particles in hydrophobic silicone oil.
