The purpose of this study was to validate the effect that the job stress of the newly appointed dental hygienists would have on the organization effectiveness. In this study, 214 newly appointed dental hygienists in Daegu, Gyeongbuk, were surveyed from September to October, 2013 through the structured questionnaires, and the collected data were electro-statistically computerized under SPSS 17.0 program and analyzed based on the frequency analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The results of analysis showed that the dental hygienists with less than 3-year experience had the lower role conflict compared to other groups in relation to the job stress factors based on the clinical experience, and there was a significant difference. A negative(-) relation was found among the job stress, organization commitment, and job satisfaction, while a positive(+) relationship with the turnover intention was found. Moreover, it turned out that the job stress of newly appointed dental hygienists had a significant effect on the organization effectiveness. Thus, it is considered necessary to explore the specific measures that can help reduce the turnover rate of newly appointed dental hygienists and improve their adaptation to the organization in a more effective manner.
This study aims at analyzing of residents'attitudes and spatial structures in the rural villages reconstructed by the Rural Village Improvement Project(type A), and suggesting the guiding directions for planning rural villages. Six rural villages located in KyungGi province were selected for case study. The Major findings can be summarized as follows : 1) The ratio of type A project(newly planned village) in the total cases of the Rural Village Improvement Project has increased since 1990, In the majority(91.2%) of the type A project, the project area is below 2 ha and density of dwelling unit is below 40 households/ha. 2) The three spatial structures of newly planned rural village, i.e., Loop pattern, Cul-de-sac pattern, and Dendritic pattern, are identified. And the barns in the newly-build houses are categorized into the five types : the vertical addition type, the horizontal addition type, the vertical- horizontal addition type, the no- barn type, and the reused -barn type. 3) In the newly planned rural villages, the level of satisfactions for the quality of house and water & sewer system is remarkably higher than in the existing rural villages. These are the positive effects caused by the Rural Village Improvement Project. 4) The majority of the villagers think the improvement of the existing rural village, instead of redevelopment or newly planned village, is most desirable, which means the improvement of houses, roads, and sanitary facilities while preserving the spatial structures of the existing village.
Purpose: Among RF pulses, a sinc pulse is typically used for slice selection due to its frequency-selective feature. When a sinc pulse is implemented in practice, it needs to be apodized to avoid truncation artifacts at the expense of broadening the transition region of the excited-band profile. Here a sinc pulse tailored by a new apodization function is proposed that produces a sharper transition region with well suppression of truncation artifacts in comparison with conventional tailored sinc pulses. A multiband pulse designed using this newly apodized sinc pulse is also suggested inheriting the better performance of the newly apodized sinc pulse. Materials and Methods: A new apodization function is introduced to taper a sinc pulse, playing a role to slightly shift the first zero-crossing of a tailored sinc pulse from the peak of the main lobe and thereby producing a narrower bandwidth as well as a sharper pass-band in the excitation profile. The newly apodized sinc pulse was also utilized to design a multiband pulse which inherits the performance of its constituent. Performances of the proposed sinc pulse and the multiband pulse generated with it were demonstrated by Bloch simulation and phantom imaging. Results: In both simulations and experiments, the newly apodized sinc pulse yielded a narrower bandwidth and a sharper transition of the pass-band profile with a desirable degree of side-lobe suppression than the commonly used Hanning-windowed sinc pulse. The multiband pulse designed using the newly apodized sinc pulse also showed the better performance in multi-slice excitation than the one designed with the Hanning-windowed sinc pulse. Conclusion: The new tailored sinc pulse proposed here provides a better performance in slice (or slab) selection than conventional tailored sinc pulses. Thanks to the availability of analytical expression, it can also be utilized for multiband pulse design with great flexibility and readiness in implementation, transferring its better performance.
Background: Species in the heterokont genus Synura are colonial and have silica scales whose ultrastructural characteristics are used for classification. We examined the ultrastructure of silica scales and molecular data (nuclear SSU rDNA and LSU rDNA, and plastid rbcL sequences) to better understand the taxonomy and phylogeny within the section Petersenianae of genus Synura. In addition, we report the first finding of newly recorded Synura species from Korea. Results: We identified all species by examination of scale ultrastructure using scanning and transmission electron microscopy (SEM and TEM). Three newly recorded species from Korea, Synura americana, Synura conopea, and Synura truttae were described based on morphological characters, such as cell size, scale shape, scale size, keel shape, number of struts, distance between struts, degree of interconnections between struts, size of base plate pores, keel pores, base plate hole, and posterior rim. The scales of the newly recorded species, which belong to the section Petersenianae, have a well-developed keel and a characteristic number of struts on the base plate. We performed molecular phylogenetic analyses based on sequence data from three genes in 32 strains (including three outgroup species). The results provided strong statistical support that the section Petersenianae was monophyletic, and that all taxa within this section had well-developed keels and a defined number of struts on the base plate. Conclusions: The phylogenetic tree based on sequence data of three genes was congruent with the data on scale ultrastructure. The resulting phylogenetic tree strongly supported the existence of the section Petersenianae. In addition, we propose newly recorded Synura species from Korea based on phylogenetic analyses and morphological characters: S. americana, S. conopea, and S. truttae.
Fourteen new records of yeasts were screened from one hundred thirty-three yeasts strains which were isolated from wild flowers in east, west and south coast near areas and inland areas, Korea. Candida silvae, Cryptococcus terrestris and Auriculibuller fuscus were newly isolated from wild flowers collected at Donghae and Andong, respectively. Candida quercitrusa, Hanseniaspora opuntiae, Sporobolomyces carnicolor, Candida saopaulonensis and Sporobolomyces phaffii were newly isolated from wild flowers in Geumsan-gun and Taean-gun in Chungcheongnam-do, respectively. Candida oleophila and Jaminaea angkoriensis were newly identified from flowers in Yesan-gun and Hannaella zeae was also newly identified from flowers of Daecheon. Hanseniaspora vineae and two other yeast strains including Pseudozyma hubeiensis were newly isolated and identified from flowers collected at Gwangju and Wando-gun, respectively. Morphological and physiological characteristics of their new recorded yeasts were investigated.
The purpose of this study was to identify the influence of living factors on TVOC(Total Volatile Organic Compounds) concentrations and personal factors to reduce the Sick House Syndrome for newly-built apartments. The field measurements of TVOC concentrations were made totally 30 times(5 times per one subject house) in six apartment units in which residents recently moved. Those apartments authorized its business approval before May 2004, the Act of Indoor Air Quality Management for multi-use facilities. The Questionnaire surveys of residents' subjective responses on the Sick House Syndrome were carried out in 2nd measurement of each house. Respondents consisted of 20 residents living in the measured houses. The findings were as follows: The TVOC concentrations of the measured subject apartments ranged from about 1/10 of the recommended standard for multi-use facilities($400{\mu}g/m^3$) to up to 90 times as high as the standard. Since then, the Recommended Standard of Indoor Air Quality Management for newly-built apartment house was announced in December 2005. In accordance with this standard($2390{\mu}g/m^3$) it ranged from about 1/100 to up to 15 times as high as the standard. The subject house whose TVOC concentrations reduced below the recommendation standard in the shortest period had the largest amount of ventilation (all the windows were open for ventilation in the past three months) among all measured houses. The reason of another house whose TVOC concentrations were much higher than the rest was fronted with new furniture in the room. There turned out to be no apparent relations between the TVOC concentrations and the residents' individual responses of Sick House Syndrome. The responses were serious in those who stayed in their new houses for a long period or had disease like allergy. It's recommended that they should open all the windows for at least three months for ventilation in newly-built houses, and it would be better to avoid remodeling than needs be.

This study was conducted to compare food intakes between newly diagnosed diabetics and non-diabetics by food frequency questionnarie in adults in rural area. Food frequency questionnaire containing 65 food items was executed to 2,406 subjects over 30 years of age living inYeonchon-gun, Kyungki province. Frequency of consumption of each food items were divided into 9 categories ranging from 'over 3 tiemes a day' to 'never'. Fasting blood glucose levels were measured and 2-hour glucose tolerance test was administered for each subject. Newly diagnosed diabetics were identified as those with fasting blood glucose level ≥ 140mg/dl or 2-hour postprandial glucose level ≥200mg/dl and without previous diagnosis of diabetes. Intake frequencies of food items were compared between newly diagnosed diabetics and nondiabetics. For each food item examined, odds ratios for developing diabetes were calculated for people consuming more frequently, after adjusting for age, BMI and sex. Food intake frequencies were compared according to the occurrence of diabetes. Twenty four items were more frequently consumed by nonidabetics and 12 items were more frequently consumed by newly diagnosed diabetics. Odds ratios for diabetes were significantly lower for breads, biscuit, beef loin, beef tender loin, pork belly, fish paste, coffee, cola/cider, candy, beer, chongak kimchi, carrot, mushrooms and other white vegetables, banana, melon and juice. On the other hand, odds ratios for diabetes were higher for zucchini and garlic. Although this was a cross over prevalence study, the results indicate that consumption frequencies of several food items were related with the occurrence of diabetes in the study subjects.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the resilience experience and to identify in-depth the meaning of the resilience of newly graduated nurses. Methods: This study was a qualitative study using phenomenological research method and used data obtained from semi-structured in-depth interviews with 9 newly graduated nurses under 12 months of employment in tertiary general hospitals. The data were analyzed using Colaizzi's method. Results: As a result of analyzing the experiences of newly graduated nurses' resilience, there were totally 86 meaningful statements, 13 themes were derived from them, and they were integrated into 4 theme clusters. The four theme clusters were 'Acknowledging shortcomings and developing oneself', 'Enduring and tolerating', 'Support from people around oneself', and 'Freshening and sublimating oneself'. Conclusion: Understanding and enhancing the resilience of new nurses will help them improve nursing professionalism and reduce turnover due to reduced work stress.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors that can affect transition shock in newly-graduated nurses. Methods: The first descriptive written survey was conducted on 450 graduate students from five nursing colleges. After their employment, the second survey was conducted on 316 participants who had responded to the first survey. A total of 158 respondents were used for the final analysis. Data were analyzed using an independent t-test, ANOVA, Tukey test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis with the SPSS Win 25.0 Program. Results: The average age of the participants was 24.25±4.47. Of the participants, 126 (79.8%) were satisfied that they had majored in nursing. The average score for transition shock was 2.61±0.55 points. Factors influencing the transition shock of newly-graduated nurses were the working department, working period, and working environment. The more positively the newly-graduated nurses perceived the nursing work environment, the less of a transition shock they experienced. Grade point average, clinical competence, confidence in performing core nursing skills, and nursing professionalism did not affect their transition shock. It could be confirmed that there is a gap between college nursing education and the clinical field. Conclusion: In order to reduce the transition shock of newly-graduated nurses, it is necessary to improve the nursing work environment and apply educational and emotional support strategies according to the characteristics of each work department and the period of work.

Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk area in 2020 has caused difficulties in the daily life and hospital care of children with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). We detected an increase in blood sugar levels in these children and the number of patients hospitalized with more severe diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) compared to those before COVID-19. Methods: This single-center study was conducted at Kyungpook National University Children's Hospital. The following patient groups were included; 45 returning patients diagnosed with T1DM and undergoing insulin treatment for more than 2 years and 20 patients newly diagnosed with T1DM before and after COVID-19 were selected by age matching. Returning patients before and after the outbreak were selected, and changes in hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels were retrospectively reviewed. The HbA1c levels and severity of symptoms in newly diagnosed patients during hospitalization were examined. Results: HbA1c levels in returning patients with T1DM were significantly increased after COVID-19 (before, 7.70%±1.38% vs. after, 8.30%±2.05%; p=0.012). There were 10 and 10 newly diagnosed patients before and after COVID-19, respectively. The proportion of patients with drowsiness and dyspnea at the time of admission was higher after COVID-19 than before (before, 2 of 10 vs. after, 4 of 10). The HbA1c levels were higher in newly diagnosed patients hospitalized after COVID-19 than before (before, 11.15% vs. after, 13.60%; p=0.036). Conclusion: Due to COVID-19 in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk area, there was an increase in blood glucose levels in children with T1DM and in the incidence of severe DKA in newly diagnosed diabetes mellitus patients.
