  • Four external and 27 cranial characters of Korean field mice (Apodemus peninsuluek from nine localities in eastern Asia, representing ave subspecies, were analyzed by multivariate statistical methods. Three forms were recognized: a large-size form from Korea (subspecies peninsulael, southern Manchuria (praeto4, and northern Manchuria (majofi a middle-size form from urestern Siberia (tschergal and southuvestern China (sowerbyi); a small-size form from northeastern China (sowerbyi). It is also revealed that variations among the three forms are clinal rind circular. It is confirmed that Apodemus peninsuloe could be classified into two subspecies (peninsulae and sowerbyl) within the distribution range in the continent of Asia, as noted tv Corbel (1978). However, it is found that subspecies peninsulae includes praetor and moior and that subspecies sowerbyi includes tscherga, indicating that subspecies tscherga is not the synonym of subspecies peninsulae, but that of subspecies sowerbyi.

  • The tribe Quediini from Korea is examined. One new species, Velleius circumipectus, and one new subspecies, Quedius japonicus sachonensis, are described, and four species, Heterothops rotundiceps, Q. japonicus (s. str.), Q. simulans, and V. setosus, are recorded firstly in Korea. As a result, Korean fauna of the tribe Quediini comprises 10 species and one subspecies belonging to three genera.

  • In order to determine the taxonomic status of Apodemus agrarius chejuensis from Cheju island in Korea, three hundred and eleven samples of eight subspecies of striped field mice (subspecies, agrarius, ningpoensis , pallidior, chevrieri, insulaemus, manchuricus, coreae, and chejuensis of A. agrarius Pallas) in Asia, collected from Turkey , China, Taiwan, , Manchuria, and Koarea, were used. Four external and 27 cranial characters were measured and their measurements were utilized for multivariate analyses such as cluster, principal component, and discriminant analyses. Four forms were revealed . A largest-size from was chejuensis, whereas a large-size form was cheverieri. A medium -size from and a small-size from were coreae and other five subspecies (agrarius , ningpoensis, pallidior, insulaemus, and manchuricus) , respecitvley, but their differences were clinal. A discontinuous gap was revealed between chejuensis (a largest-size from) and six subspecies ( a medium-size from and a small-size form) Although chejuensis appeared to be a distinct species, it is concluded that molecular analyses are necessary in order to describe it as a new species.

  • An eumenid subspecies Pararrhynchium paradoxum koreanum Giordani Soika, 1986 is newly combined to the genus Pseudepipona de Saussure, 1856. Although tegula of this subspecies is similar to one of Allodynerus, shape of scutellar crest and related structures in both sexes and peculiar shape of mandible in male are critically justifiable for the genus Pseudepipona. This form is a discrete species in the genus, thus named as Pseudepipona koreanum (Giordani Soika, 1986) n. comb. The original description of this species was based on the sole male specimen and hardly diagnostic, just providing coloration compared with the nominotypical subspecies of P. paradoxum. A redescription of males and description of the hitherto unknown female are provided.

  • The Aphis solanella, had been classified as a subspecies of Aphis fabae, is currently recognized as a separated species with A. fabae. The A. solanella is morphologically similar to A. fabae and has the same primary host, but there are differences in the range of the secondary host, physiological and ecological traits, so it has been suggested as a separated species. Since it had not been covered when recording the A. fabae at least including three subspecies in 2006 from South Korea, we recently collected and reconfirmed A. solanella in Busan. Therefore, we report the Aphis solanella as a new record with its description and illustrations.
