This is a study on the application of a dialectic way of thinking in terms of design methods, and has contents about the formation of new visual and the ways of process that are triggered by cognitive introspection. A ccordingly, the study has its purposes in interpretation and recommendation of new methodological systems around dialectic principles and ways of thinking on the works of the Dutch Architecture Exhibition carried out in Korea in 2013, with the theme of "Reuse" among the aspects expanding since the reflexive modernization. Firstly, the basic features of Dutch designs were connected to dialectic ways of thinking. After studying the basic concepts of dialectics from Greek philosophies to Kant, Hegel, Marx and Benjamin, the aspects of applying them onto creative works such as art, architecture and design were methodologically systematized. Through this process, it was confirmed that the existing concepts are newly rearranged rationally, logically and scientifically based on dialectic ways of thinking rather than subjectively or emotionally. From the study of the 12 art works, it was confirmed that the value of use and potential obstacles have been used as a design solution. Also, the process which is juxtaposed with the result by itself has been expressed and causes the alienation effect. Therefore, such dialectic ways of thinking was organized into a procedural flow of contradictory recognition on situations, drive due to negativity, mutual penetration, mutual transformation, abstraction, verbalizing and creation of new concepts, and it was confirmed that such finding was valid in securing creative possibilities as 'New Uses' rather than 'Re-uses'.

The root of cultural and artistic diversity of modern society goes hand in hand with the appearance of new art concepts that started during the social and cultural turmoil. These concepts crossed the boundaries of traditional and universal aesthetic concepts and value criteria. Since there is a close relationship between the fashion industry and the cultural flow of its times, the purpose of this study is to investigate the influences and applications of conceptual art, which became one of the big frameworks of contemporary art on fashion. The study thus sets out to develop and analyze the collections of Hussein Chalayan and Martin Margiela, who were fashion designers that pursued conceptual and ideal values, from the perspective of conceptual art. The goal was to examine the conceptual thoughts they sought after, and to understand their expressive determinations that they pursued conceptually as well as the superficial formativeness of their works. The characteristics according to the expressive methods and conceptual intentions of conceptual art that specified concepts and ideas were as follows: readymade symbolized objects, expanded intervention, data form from process of changing and implementation, and language as visual metaphors. Then those characteristics of conceptual art were used in this study to analyze the collections of Chalayan and Margiela. As a result, both designers applied and mixed many characteristics of the expressive methods of conceptual art. In modern society, art and fashion share a cultural identity and it can be said that it is an accurate reflection of the time. They are not separate genres. Just like the unique flow of modern society that creates new concepts through mixture and infusion of different disciplines, fashion is included in the domain of art. In addition, understanding and studying other disciplines can make a huge contribution to the growth and development of fashion.

The design process becomes more difficult due to the increasing complexity of products. Thus, without any proper design experience, designer cannot handle his design problems systematically. Besides, the conventional optimal design method cannot be used effectively at the early design stage, since most design problems must be formulated in terms of objective and constraint functions based on the mathematical concepts of Operation Research. Thus, in this paper, new design concept based on FBS (Function-Behavior-Structure) design model is introduced to help the novice designer formulate the complex design problems systematically into a mathematical form. In this FBS model, function means the designer's new intents designer wants to create for, structure stand for a final product configuration and behaviour is a product's performance. FBS design model is thus rather totally different concept used for formulating design problem, compared with conventional optimal design method. To validate this new FBS model, 330K VLCC design case is performed, and we found, though it is one design example case, that this new design concept could be effectively used for future ship design problems since, during the formulating design problem, the only engineering terminology such as function, structure, and behaviour of design product is used based on the engineering concepts, instead of mathematical terminology such as objective and constraints.

This is a study on methods for designers of furniture and products to generate and develop design concept in consideration of design and existing conditions of the space when they design street furniture. In particular, in case when they participate in a process of designing new space, this study aims to reveal methods generating strategic elements and basic ideas for designing street furniture through cases study of projects by understanding and analyzing concept of overall space design and by extracting artistic elements for deployment of specific designs. First, Design DNA, which decides overall flow of design concept of street furniture, is extracted through analyses of basic concepts of space design. Next, by applying 3V Design Process, alternatives of the concept generation are suggested through methods of storytelling and design language under the two approach methods of verbalization stage and visualization stage. Also its methods were explored through suggestion of designs by developing each idea of the respective concepts into specific design vocabulary.

본 연구는 디자인 과정 중에 발생하는 디자이너의 사고행위를 해석하는 디자인 과학 연구의 하나로서 인지심리학의 이론을 바탕으로 디자인 과점에 대한 인지실험을 실시하여 은유사고를 이해하고자 하였다. 연구방법으로는 건축 디자이너를 대상으로 디자인 개념 설정 과정에 대한 디자인 리뷰(review)실험을 실시하여 겉으로 드러나지 않는 은유사고를 언어표현으로 끄집어내고 그 내용을 분석하여 디자인 과정에서 은유사고의 특성을 살펴보았다. 주어진 디자인 상황에서 디자이너가 문제를 해결하고 개념을 설정하는 사고과정을 회상해서 이야기한 내용을 분석하여 디자인 과정을 디자인 아이디어의 발생과정으로 재구성하고 이 과정에서 나타난 은유사고를 아이디어 발생 측면에서 분석하여 디자인에서 은유사고의 특성을 파악하였다. 연구결과 디자인 과정에서 발생하는 아이디어의 생성에 가장 중요한 접은 어느 시점에 다수의 새로운 아이디어가 생성되어 디자인 사고가 확산되는 젓이며 이러한 디자인 아이디어의 확산에 은유사고가 결정적인 역할을 담당하고 있는 것이다.

Le Corbusier planned and began to build space of new architecture expression around 1920s by connecting his theory of architecture of a great influence upon his creation of works with the puristic plincipes. The objective of this study consists in enguiring into the interior space of Le Corbusier's villa in 1920s and 1930s , especially into villa La Roche-Jeanneret , villa Terrasses, and villa Savoye. The constituents of the villas introduced new architectural concepts, including geometry, economics , and his new five architectural factors, and there appeared such phenomena as were shown in the paintings of the purist period, such as transparency, contrast , etc. We can see through this study, that Le Corbusider's architectural purpose is the realisation of his architectural and puristic. concepts.

This study aims at finding issues and ideas of waterfront planning through analysing planning concepts and characteristics of New York City Waterfront Comprehensive Plan(NYC WCP). The first NYC WCP in 1992 divided waterfront area as 4 functional areas which are natural, public, working and redeveloping waterfront. The characteristics of WCP in 1992 are zonning, height, setback, public access, visual corridor, floor area and so forth. After then NYC WCP revision in 2011 intergrated and developed the former plan through the eight visions which are expanding public access, enlivening the waterfront, improving water quality, restoring the natural waterfront, enhancing the Blue Network, improving government oversight and increasing climate resillience. In conclusion, NYC WCP successfully achieved both sufficient capacity of planning concepts and design guidelines for each region.

어느 시대나 사회의 세계관이란, 우주의 질서와 원리를 표명하는 당대의 시대 정신응ㄹ 그대로 반영하는 것이라 생각한다. 또한 디자이너의 가치관은 디자인 행위 및 그 결과로 함축되어 나타난다. 최근 디자인 학 연구에 있어 종래의 환원 적, 유클리트 적 디자인의 한계를 인식하고 그에 대응하는 새로운 사고와 방법을 모색하고 있으며, 새로운 패러다임을 지향해야 함이 강조되고 있다. 이러한 시점에서 본 연구는 새로운 과학 이론으로서의 카오스, 프랙탈 이론을 연구를 위한 준거의 틀로 삼고 있다. 연구결과 창조적 디자이너의 사고와 환경디자인 과정은 혼돈 속에 내재된 질서와 많은 개연성 중에서 가능성을 선택하는 일련의 혼돈 스런 개방시스템으로 설명되었다. 또한 과학, 예술의 상보적 관계 속에서 프랙탈 기하학은 자연인식과 디자인 사고에 새로운 개념과 언어를 제공하고 있으며, 환경디자인 방법에 무한한 조형적 가능성을 제시하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 결국 본 연구는 변화된 세계관과 패러다임을 지향하는 사고방식을 강조하였으며, 환경디자인에 있어 창조적 폭을 넓히는 데 기여하고자 하였다.

The fundamental philosophy underlying the seismic design of structures and systems are evolving into the performance based concept. The background and current status of this development in other countries are briefly summarized. The new code system which consists of two level seismic design criteria will be introduced. The implementation of the preformance based design concepts in the criteria will be explained.
