  • We present a new approach to bale laydown grouping, which improves the laydown to laydown uniformities, compared to conventional approaches. In this approach, we use a frequency-relative picking method based on an HVI quality index for cotton bale selection and laydown formation. We demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach by computer simulation on real HVI data of 1500 cotton bales. Simulation results show that the proposed method significantly outperforms random picking.

  • In this paper a new theory is presented to treat the problem of stimulated absorption and emission of photons between energy levels from the standpoint of discrete quantum jumps. In order to implement the theory a scheme to avoid the quantum Zeno effect is proposed. Numerical simulations are performed to demonstrate that this approach does not contradict the principles of the standard wave mechanics. It is shown that with this approach one can obtain photon observation statistics as well.

  • A new approach to process optimal design in non-isothermal, non-steady state metal forming is presented. In this approach, the optimal design problem is formulated on the basis of the integrated thermo-mechanical finite element process model so as to cover a wide range of the objective functions and design variables, and the derivative based approach is adopted for conducting optimization by design iteration. The process model, the formulation for process optimal design, and the procedures for the evaluation of the design sensitivity and for design iteration for optimization are described.

  • A new grid-based approach is presented for automatic generation of hexahedral meshes for simulation of plastic deformation in metal forming. In this approach, special enveloping schemes are applied, to eradicate the sources of the degenerate elements that may appear in a generated mesh. The schemes are described in detail, along with a complete procedure for mesh generation. The capability of the approach to deal with an arbitrary, 3-D process geometry is demonstrated through application to a selected forming problem.

  • A new agreement measure for multivariate interval data by different sets of raters is proposed. The proposed approach builds on Um's multivariate extension of Cohen's kappa. The proposed measure is compared with corresponding earlier measures based on Berry and Mielke's approach and Janson and Olsson approach, respectively. Application of the proposed measure is exemplified using hypothetical data set.

  • This paper presents a new approach on genetic algorithms to economic dispatch problem for valve point discontinuities. Proposed approach in this paper on genetic algorithms improves the performance to solve economic dispatch problem for valve point discontinuities through combination in penalty function with death penalty, generation-apart elitism, atavism and heuristic crossover. Numerical results on an actual utility system consisted of 13 thermal units show that the proposed approach is faster and robuster than classical genetic algorithm.

  • In order to prevent the short-channel effects due to threshold voltage adjustment implantation in conventional n+ doped silicon gate process, a new approach involving automatic doping of polycide by boron during source and drain implantation is introduced. P-MOSFET devece fabricated by theis approach shows improved short channel characteristics than conventional device with n+ doped gate. Some concerns of adopting this approach in CMOS technology are addressed togetheer with some suggestions.

  • This paper describes a new approach for minimizing working memory spaces without loosing too much amount of computing time in the analysis of power system faults. This approach requires the decomposition of alrge power system into several small groups of subsystems, forms individual bus impedance matrics, store them in the auxiliary memory, later assembles them to the original total system by algorithms. And also the approach uses techniques for diagonalizing primitive impedances and expanding the system bus impedance matrices by adding a fault bus. These scheme ensures a remarkable savings of working storage and continous computations of fault currents and voltages with the voried fault locations.

  • This paper outlines our approach and the underlying design principles aimed at the generation of a theory of coordination. Such theory would assist in designing new Multi-Agent Systems(MAS) and provide trouble-shooting tools for suboptimally functioning MAS. This paper also describes the decisions that have been made in this endeavor. We have been able to show via a simplified model that approach is feasible and can produce results.

  • Since container throughput is continually increasing, the main issues facing decision-makers at port container terminals are how to expand the existing container terminals and construct new container terminals. Simulations that support user needs require modeling tools that are both easy to use and sufficiently to reflect real world system. The object-oriented approach provides for both reusability and modularity that best fits these requirements. This paper present the design procedure a simulator for port container terminal that was based on the object-oriented approach. The simulator in order to model and simulate the TC-based container terminals is developed.
