Detection The Behavior of Smartphone Users using Time-division Feature Fusion Convolutional Neural Network (시분할 특징 융합 합성곱 신경망을 이용한 스마트폰 사용자의 행동 검출)

  • Since the spread of smart phones, interest in wearable devices has increased and diversified, and is closely related to the lives of users, and has been used as a method for providing personalized services. In this paper, we propose a method to detect the user's behavior by applying information from a 3-axis acceleration sensor and a 3-axis gyro sensor embedded in a smartphone to a convolutional neural network. Human behavior differs according to the size and range of motion, starting and ending time, including the duration of the signal data constituting the motion. Therefore, there is a performance problem for accuracy when applied to a convolutional neural network as it is. Therefore, we proposed a Time-Division Feature Fusion Convolutional Neural Network (TDFFCNN) that learns the characteristics of the sensor data segmented over time. The proposed method outperformed other classifiers such as SVM, IBk, convolutional neural network, and long-term memory circulatory neural network.

Prediction of Various Properties of Soft Ground Soils using Artificial Neural Network (인공신경망을 이용한 연약지반의 지반설계정수 예측)

  • This study performed field and laboratory tests for poor subsoils taken in six regions of the country and determined undrain shear strength. Su values and preconsolidation pressure are predicted using Back Propagation neural network (BPNN) and the application of BPNN is verified. The result of BPNN shows that correlation coefficient between test and neural network result is over 0.9, which means high correlativity. Especially the neural network uses only 6 parameters such as natural water content, void ratio, specific gravity, rate of passing 200th sieve, liquid limits and plasticity index among various affecting factors to estimate value and the correlation coefficent is 0.93. The conclusions obtained in this paper are from the tests performed for poor subsoils taken in the several regions of the country. If there were more test results, the prediction and influence of various soil properties could be effectively performed by neural network.

  • Non-destruction examinations are required in medical sciences and various engineering now. We wish to emulate the examinations in very simplified experiments. It is an educational program. We show a neural network analysis to predict the locations of a sound-source or a body irradiated by sound-waves in audio-region. The sound is an interest flux, and it enables to clear local-structures in a non-transparent space. However, the sound-propagation equations are not solved easily, therefore, we consider to adopt multi-layer neural-networks instead of the direct solutions. We used detected intensities and coordinates for input data and teaching data. A neural network learned them. The neural-network analysis decomposed the distance of 50cm. The resolution is rather rough; however, it is caused by the limitation of our equipments. Since there is no problem in the neural network processing, if we could revise experiments, then, progress of the resolution would be got. Thus, the proposed method functioned as an educational and simplified non-destruction examination.

Indoor Localization based on Multiple Neural Networks (다중 인공신경망 기반의 실내 위치 추정 기법)

  • Indoor localization is becoming one of the most important technologies for smart mobile applications with different requirements from conventional outdoor location estimation algorithms. Fingerprinting location estimation techniques based on neural networks have gained increasing attention from academia due to their good generalization properties. In this paper, we propose a novel location estimation algorithm based on an ensemble of multiple neural networks. The neural network ensemble has drawn much attention in various areas where one neural network fails to resolve and classify the given data due to its' inaccuracy, incompleteness, and ambiguity. To the best of our knowledge, this work is the first to enhance the location estimation accuracy in indoor wireless environments based on a neural network ensemble using fingerprinting training data. To evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed location estimation method, we conduct the numerical experiments using the TGn channel model that was developed by the 802.11n task group for evaluating high capacity WLAN technologies in indoor environments with multiple transmit and multiple receive antennas. The numerical results show that the proposed method based on the NNE technique outperforms the conventional methods and achieves very accurate estimation results even in environments with a low number of APs.

Effective Prediction of Thermal Conductivity of Concrete Using Neural Network Method

  • The temperature distributions of concrete structures strongly depend on the value of thermal conductivity of concrete. However, the thermal conductivity of concrete varies according to the composition of the constituents and the temperature and moisture conditions of concrete, which cause difficulty in accurately predicting the thermal conductivity value in concrete. For this reason, in this study, back-propagation neural network models on the basis of experimental values carried out by previous researchers have been utilized to effectively account for the influence of these variables. The neural networks were trained by 124 data sets with eleven parameters: nine concrete composition parameters (the ratio of water-cement, the percentage of fine and coarse aggregate, and the unit weight of water, cement, fine aggregate, coarse aggregate, fly ash and silica fume) and two concrete state parameters (the temperature and water content of concrete). Finally, the trained neural network models were evaluated by applying to other 28 measured values not included in the training of the neural networks. The result indicated that the proposed method using a back-propagation neural algorithm was effective at predicting the thermal conductivity of concrete.

  • This paper presents an feed-forward neural network design instead PI controller for the speed control of an Induction Motor. The design employs the training strategy with Neural Network Controller(NNC) and Neural Network Emulator(NNE). Emulator identifies the motor by simulating the input and output map. In order to update the weights of the Controller. Emulator supplies the error path to the output stage of the controller using backpropagation algorithm. and then Controller produces an adequate output to the system due to neural networks learning capability. Therefore it becomes adjustable to the system with changing characteristics caused by a load. The speed control based on neural networks for induction motor is implemented by a vector controlled induction motor. The simulation results demonstrate that actual motor speed with neural network system well follows the reference speed minimizing the error and is available to implement on the vector control theory.

  • A major concern at present is the simultaneous control of transverse thickness profile and flatness in the finishing stages of hot rolling process. The mathematical modeling of hot rolling process has long been recognized to be a desirable approach to investigate rolling operating practice and the design of mill equipment to improve productivity and quality. However, many factors make the mathematical analysis of the rolling process very complex and time-consuming. In order to overcome these problems and to obtain an accurate rolling force, the predicted model of rolling force using neural networks has widely been employed. In this paper, Radial Basis Function Network(RBFN) is applied to improve the accuracy of rolling force prediction in hot rolling mill. In order to verify and analysis the performance of applied neural network, the comparison with the measured rolling force and the predicted results using two different neural networks - RBFN, MLP, has respectively been carried out. The results obtained using RBFN neural network are much more accurate those obtained the MLP.

  • This paper addresses cancer prediction based on radial basis function neural network optimized by particle swarm optimization. Today, cancer hazard to people is increasing, and it is often difficult to cure cancer. The occurrence of cancer can be predicted by the method of the computer so that people can take timely and effective measures to prevent the occurrence of cancer. In this paper, the occurrence of cancer is predicted by the means of Radial Basis Function Neural Network Optimized by Particle Swarm Optimization. The neural network parameters to be optimized include the weight vector between network hidden layer and output layer, and the threshold of output layer neurons. The experimental data were obtained from the Wisconsin breast cancer database. A total of 12 experiments were done by setting 12 different sets of experimental result reliability. The findings show that the method can improve the accuracy, reliability and stability of cancer prediction greatly and effectively.

An Intrusion Detection System using Time Delay Neural Networks (시간지연 신경망을 이용한 침입탐지 시스템)

  • Intrusion detection systems based on rules are not efficient for mutated attacks, because they need additional rules for the variations. In this paper, we propose an intrusion detection system using the time delay neural network. Packets on the network can be considered as gray images of which pixels represent bytes of them. Using this continuous packet images, we construct a neural network classifier that discriminates between normal and abnormal packet flows. The system deals well with various mutated attacks, as well as well known attacks.
