  • Compared to a terrestrial communication, the high BER(Bit Error Ratio) and low channel bandwidth are the major factor of throughput degradation due to characteristics of underwater channel. Therefore, a MAC protocol must be designed to solve this problem in UWASNs(Underwater Acoustic Sensor Networks). MAC protocols for UWASNs can be classified into two major types according to the contention scheme(Contention-free scheme and Contention-based scheme). In large scale of sensor networks, a Contention-based scheme is commonly used due to time-synchronize problem of Contention-free scheme. In the contention-based scheme, Each node contends with neighbor nodes to access network channel by using Back-off algorithm. But a Slot-Time of Back-off algorithm has long delay times which are cause of decrease network throughput. In this paper, we propose a new scheme to solve this problem. The proposed scheme uses variable Slot-Time instead of fixed Slot-Time. Each node measures propagation delay from neighbors which are used by Slot-time. Therefore, Slot-Times of each node are optimized by considering node deployment. Consequently, the wasted-time for Back-off is reduced and network throughput is improved. A new mac protocol performance in throughput and delay is assessed through NS3 and compared with existing MAC protocol(MACA-U). Finally, it was proved that the MAC protocol using the proposed scheme has better performance than existing MAC protocol as a result of comparison.

  • Increasing using multimedia services as VoIP, Video conference, DMB, IPTV, etc, it is necessary to increase network traffics and develop the mechanism about a flow control for real time traffic transmission. In order to transfer realtime multimedia data, the transfer rate can be control on network state data measuring packet losses of a receiver and delay time of packets through getting periodical feedback RTP/RTCP packet. This paper describes using efficiant flow control on multicast that can reduce errors according to getting feedback tranfer delay and proposes the mechanism that can adapt dynamic change of network. In simulation, the transfer rate can efficiently be control on dynamic change of network and it makes the maximum of the use of a bandwidth and the minimum of packet losses.

  • Proposal algorithm in this thesis introduced cells, units of router group, for distributed processing of previous genetic algorithm. This thesis presented ways to reduce search delay time of overall network through cell-based genetic algorithm. As a result of performance analysis comparing with existing genetic algorithm through experiments, the proposal algorithm was found superior in terms of costs and delay time. Furthermore, time for routing an alternative path was reduced in proposal algorithm, in case that a network was damaged in existing optimal path algorithm, Dijkstra algorithm, and the proposal algorithm was designed to route an alternative path faster than Dijkstra algorithm, as it has a 2nd shortest path in cells of the damaged network. The study showed that the proposal algorithm can support routing of alternative path, if Dijkstra algorithm is damaged in a network.

  • The controlled load service defined within the IETF's Integrated Services architecture for quality-of-service (QoS) in the Internet requires source nodes to regulate their traffic while the network, in combination with an admission control strategy, provides a guarantee of performance equivalent to that achieved in a lightly loaded network. Packets sent in violation of the traffic contract are marked so that the network may assign them a lower priority in the use of bandwidth and buffer resources. In this paper, we define the requirements of a scheduler serving packets belonging to the controlled load service and present a novel scheduler that exactly achieves these requirements. In this set of requirements, besides efficiency and throughput, we include an additional important requirement to bound the additional delay of unmarked packets caused due to the transmission of marked packets while dropping as few marked packets as possible. Without such a bound, unmarked packets that are in compliance with the traffic contract are not likely to experience delays consistent with that in al lightly loaded network. For any given desired bound ${\alpha}$ on this additional delay, we present the CL(${\alpha}$) scheduler which achieves the bound while also achieving a per-packet work complexity of O(1) with respect to the number of flows. We provide an analytical proof of these properties of the CL(${\alpha}$) scheduler, and we also verify this with simulation using real traces of video traffic. The scheduler presented here may be readily adapted for use in scheduling flows with multi-level priorities such as in some real-time video streams, as well as in other emerging service models of the Internet that mark packets to identify drop precedences.

  • One of the big differences between Network-on-Chip (NoC) and the existing parallel processing system based on an off-chip network is that data packet routing is performed using a centralized control scheme. In such an environment, the best-effort packet routing problem becomes a real-time assignment problem in which data packet arriving time and processing time is the cost. In this paper, the Hungarian algorithm, a representative computational complexity reduction algorithm for the linear algebraic equation of the allocation problem, is implemented in the form of a hardware accelerator. As a result of logic synthesis using the TSMC 0.18um standard cell library, the area of the circuit designed through case analysis for the cost distribution is reduced by about 16% and the propagation delay of it is reduced by about 52%, compared to the circuit implementing the original operation sequence of the Hungarian algorithm.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient packet forwarding method for an IP-based wireless Internet access network. Packets are forwarded along with a flow, that is a kind of connection-oriented connection and established before delivering packets. For this purpose, we also propose a flow resolution method and a modified IPv6 header for delivering packet in the wireless Internet access network. In addition, the method to support the mobility of mobile stations is explained, and the implementation issues are discussed. In order to estimate the performance of the proposed method, we analyzed the delay time to deliver packets in the wireless Internet access network. The numerical results show that the proposed method is very efficient, in the view point of delay.

  • There are emerging many eScience applications. More and more scientists want to collaborate on their investigation with international partners without space limitation by using these applications. Since these applications have to analyze the massive raw data, scientists need to send and receive the data in short time. So today's network related requirement is high speed networking. The key point of network performance is transport protocol. We can use TCP and UDP as transport protocol but we use TCP due to the data reliability. However, TCP was designed under low bandwidth network, therefore, general TCP, for example Reno, cannot utilize the whole bandwidth of high capacity network. There are several TCP variants to solve TCP problems related to high speed networking. They can be classified into two groups: loss based TCP and delay based TCP. In this paper, I will compare two approaches of TCP variants and propose a hybrid approach for high speed networking.

  • The DMR-II shared-medium access control protocol was developed for the ATM access network users to supper the isochronous traffic and the non-isochronous traffic simultaneously under the bandwidth-skating environment. In this paper we analyze the performance of the DMR-II protocol by using both the analytical analysis and the simulation method. Under the ATM access network environment, the performance analysis result shows that the DMR-II protocol maintains the delay variation of the isochronous traffic beyond the threshold value, and satisfies the delay time criteria of the non-isochronous traffic by supporting the priority service. Moreover the result shows high network utilization over 130% due to the destination release mechanism of the DMR-II protocol.

  • This letter proposes a new distributed scheduling scheme combined with routing to support the quality of service of real-time applications in wireless mesh networks. Next, this letter drives average end-to-end delay of the proposed scheduling scheme that sequentially schedules the slots on a path. Finally, this letter simulates the time division multiple access network for performance comparison. From the simulation results, when the average number of hops is 2.02, 2.66, 4.1, 4.75, and 6.3, the proposed sequential scheduling scheme reduces the average end-to-end delay by about 28%, 10%, 17%, 27%, and 30%, respectively, compared to the conventional random scheduling scheme.

  • This paper provides a new approach to analyze the stability of a general multi-link TCP Vegas, which is a kind of feedback-based congestion algorithm. Whereas the conventional approaches use the approximately linearized model of the TCP Vegas along equilibrium pints, this approach models a multi-link TCP Vegas network in the form of a piecewise linear multiple time-delay system. And then, based on the exactly characterized dynamic model, this paper presents a new stability criterion via a piecewise and multiple delay-dependent Lyapunov-Krasovskii function. Especially, the resulting stability criterion is formulated in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs).
