This paper proposes a marine engine state monitoring system using a DPQ (Distributed Precedence Queue) mechanism which collects the state of bearings, temperature and pressure of engine through the CAN network. The CAN is developed by Bosch Corp. in the early 1980' for automobile network. The data from various sensors attached in the marine engine are converted to digital by the analog to digital converter and formatted to fit the CAN protocol at the CAN module. All the CAN modules are connected to the SPU (Signal Processing Unit) module for the efficient communication and processing. This design reduces the cost for wiring and improves the data transmission reliability by recognizing the sensor errors and data transmission errors. The DPQ mechanism is newly developed for the performance improvement of the marine engine system, which is demonstrated through the experiments.

This paper proposes a cluster-based PCS(Personal Communication Services) network architecture to support increased signaling and control traffic. The procedures are presented to serve the mjobility management and the efficient procesing of the call-control functional using distributed servers. Especially when call-setups are made within a cluster, this distributed servers. Especially when call-setup time and the amount of control traffic of H-HLS (High level Home Location Server) in the network as L-HLS(Low lever Home Location Server) serves the call on behalf of H-HLS. Performance and reliability of the architecture have been also cairried out.

Future combat systems can be represented as the NCW (Network Centric Warefare), which is based on the concept of Sensor-to-Shooter. A wireless video sensor networking technology, one of the core components of NCW, has been actively applied for the purpose of tactical surveillance. In such a surveillance sensor network, multi-composite sensors, especially consisting of image sensors are utilized to improve reliability for intrusion detection and enemy tracing. However, these sensors may cause a problem of requiring very high network capacity and energy consumption. In order to alleviate this problem, this paper proposes an image data transmission scheme based on resource reservation. The proposed scheme can make it possible to have more reliable image data transmission by choosing proper multiple interfaces, while trying to control resolution and compression quality of image data based on network resource availability. By the performance analysis using NS-3 simulation, we have confirmed the transmission reliability as well as energy efficiency of the proposed scheme.

In this paper, a home network gateway has been developed, which supports the ZigBee and power line communication methods at the same time. A conversion protocol for smooth information exchange between ZigBee module and power line communication module have been implemented on the gateway, and the performance and reliability of the gateway have been evaluated as good through field tests. The gateway can support various home networks.
Traditional operating systems use a virtual memory to provide users with a bigger memory than a physical memory. The virtual memory augments the insufficient physical memory by the swap device. Since disks are usually used as the swap device, the cost of a page fault is relatively high compared to the access cost of the physical memory. Recently, numerous papers have investigated the Network RAM in order to exploit the idle memory in the network instead of disks. Since today's distributed systems are interconnected with high-performance networks, the network latency is far smaller than the disk access latency In this paper we design and implement the Network RAM using block device driver on Linux. This is the first implementation of the Network RAM on Linux. We propose the new reliability method to recover the page when the other workstation's memory is damaged. The system using the Network RAM as the swap device reduces the execution time by 40.3% than the system using the disk as the swap device. The performance results suggest that the new reliability method that use the processor more efficiently has the similar execution time with others, but uses smaller server memory and generates less message traffic than others.

In this paper, we design a terminal sliding mode controller based on self-recurrent wavelet neural network (SRWNN) for the second-order nonlinear systems with model uncertainties. The terminal sliding mode control (TSMC) method can drive the tracking errors to zero within finite time in comparison with the classical sliding mode control (CSMC) method. In addition, the TSMC method has advantages such as the improved performance, robustness, reliability and precision. We employ the SRWNN to approximate model uncertainties. The weights of SRWNN are trained by adaptation laws induced from Lyapunov stability theorem. Finally, we carry out simulations for Duffing system and the wing rock phenomena to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.
High availability and reliability have been considered promising requirements for the support of seamless network services such as real-time video streaming, gaming, and virtual and augmented reality. Increased availability can be achieved within a local area network with the use of the virtual router redundancy protocol that utilizes backup routers to provide a backup path in the case of a master router failure. However, the network may still lose a large number of packets during a failover owing to a late failure detections and lazy responses. To achieve an efficient failover, we propose the implementation of fast detection with virtual router redundancy protocol (FDVRRP) in which the backup router quickly detects a link failure and immediately serves as the master router. We implemented the FDVRRP using open neutralized network operating system (OpenN2OS), which is an open-source-based network operating system. Based on the failover performance test of OpenN2OS, we verified that the FDVRRP exhibits a very fast failure detection and a failover with low-overhead packets.

The anti-collision system is one of units for effectual operation and safety in crane operation. Most of the system have used ultrasonic to measure position and to prevent collision of crane. But, the anti-collision system using ultrasonic is fallen the reliability of performance by the change of temperature and humidity. Hence, this study proposes neural network applied to anti-collision system to improve accuracy and stability of the measured distance data, and we evaluate performance of the system. In results of experiments, the proposed method was seen that stability and accuracy of data are improved than that of the temperature compensation method.
MANET, which does not have any infrastructure other than wireless nodes, has the advantage of being able to construct a fast network. However, the movement of nodes and wireless media are also the causes of security vulnerabilities of MANET. In particular, the damage caused by the attacking nodes existing on the network is considerably greater than that of other networks. Therefore, it is necessary to detection technique for attacking nodes and techniques to reduce damage caused by attacks. In this paper, we proposed a hierarchical structure technique to increase the efficiency of intrusion detection and collaboration-based intrusion detection technique applying a P2P mesh network configuration technique to reduce damage caused by attacks. There was excluded the network participation of the attacking node in advance through the reliability evaluation of the nodes in the cluster. In addition, when an attack by an attacking node is detected, this paper was applied a method of minimizing the damage of the attacking node by transmitting quickly the attack node information to the global network through the P2P mesh network between cluster heads. The ns-2 simulator was used to evaluate the performance of the proposed technique, and the excellent performance of the proposed technique was confirmed through comparative experiments.

This study was carried out for the reliability of PD(Partial Discharge) pattern recognition. For the pattern recognition, the database for PD was established by use of self-designed insulation defects which occur and were mostly critical in GIS(Gas Insulated Switchgear). The acquired database was analyzed to distinguish patterns by means of PRPD(Phase Resolved Partial Discharge) method and stored to the form with to unite the average amplitude of PD pulse and the number of PD pulse as the input data of neural network. In order to prove the performance of genetic algorithm combined with neural network, the neural networks with trial-and-error method and the neural network with genetic algorithm were trained by same training data and compared to the results of their pattern recognition rate. As a result, the recognition success rate of defects was 93.2% and the neural network train process by use of trial-and-error method was very time consuming. The recognition success rate of defects, on the other hand, was 100% by applying the genetic algorithm at neural network and it took a relatively short time to find the best solution of parameters for optimization. Especially, it could be possible that the scrupulous parameters were obtained by genetic algorithm.
