  • This is a preliminary study on the development of precast beam-column joints for dry construction methodology. Precast beam column joints with thru-connectors (BCJ_TC) using high strength bars or PS strands were developed and their seismic performance including strength degradation, stiffness degradation and energy dissipation capacity was experimentally evaluated. Test results showed that compressive failures at the end blocks of PC beam members occurred dominantly while PC columns including panel zones were free from any damage. However, the connections confined with CFRP at the end block showed much improved seismic performance than that of the unconfined connections. Connections with neoprene pad fillers between beam and column interfaces were better than the other connections in all the seismic performances except initial stiffness. To improve the seismic performances of BCJ_TC, compressive strength of the concrete at the end block need to be increased to compensate for the additional compressive stresses due to unbonded connectors and deformation of connectors should be controlled respectively.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a customized wrist brace using 3D scanner and 3D printer. This study included in-depth interviews with people who had wrist pain and ever used wrist braces. The wrist brace has been designed and modeled by the CAD program after 3D scanning the wrist of subjects. Based on the results of the in-depth interviews on wrist brace users and design investigation in the market, a prototype of the wrist brace has been created. The wrist brace does not compress the hand and is easy to put on. In addition, it is adjustable to the wrist of users, allowing them to move his or her wrist without any restrictions. A computer-modeling program produced solid files for the design of the wrist brace after 3D scanning ten subjects' hands. It features a lattice-patterned surface, a velcro adjustment and trimming to smoothen the surface. PLA filaments were used to 3D print the wrist brace. As for the assessment, the wrist brace has been evaluated to be easy to put on and adjust to user's wrist. However, when it comes to appearance and comfortability, it was rated 3.0 or slightly above. This is because 3D printing materials are firm and not flexible compared to other materials such as neoprene or stretchable bands.

  • The arterial supply to the eyeball of the Korean native goat has been described. Observations were made by dissection of ten Korean native goats fixed in embalming fluid and injected with neoprene latex. The results were as follows. 1. The eyeball and accessory ocular organ of the Korean native goat received its blood supply chiefly from the A. ophthalmica externa and partly from the branches of A. temporalis superficialis and A. malaris. 2. A. ophthalmica externa formed Rete mirabile ophthalmicum after giving off Ramus muscularis and A. lacrimalis, and continued to A. supraorbitalis. 1) A. lacrimalis was given off between Mm. rectus lateralis and dorsalis, and supplied lacrimal gland. 2) Rete mirabile ophthalmicum gave off A. ciliares posteriores longae and Rami musculares. A. ciliates posteriores longae gave off A. ciliates posteriores medialis and lateralis, Ramus anastomoticus cum A. ophthalmica interna, A. centralis retinae, Aa. ciliares posteriores breves and Aa. episcaeralis. Rami musculares supplied to M. rectus dorsalis, M. obliquus dorsalis, M. retractor bulbi, M. levator palpebrae superioris and M. rectus medialis, and continued Aa. ciliares anteriores after giving off A. episclerales and A. conjunetivales. 3) A. supraorbitalis supplied to M. rectus dorsalis. M. obliquus dorsalis and conjuntiva, and passed into supraorbital foramen. 3. A. malaris gave off A. palpebrae tertiae, A. palpebralis inferior medialis and A. palpebralis superior medialis, which supplied to third eyelid, medial aspect of the eyelids and conjunctiva. 4. A. temporalis superficialis gave off A. palpebralis inferior lateralis and A. palpebralis superior lateralis, which supplied to lateral aspect of the eyelids, M. orbicularis oculi and M. frontoscutularis.

  • In the present study, the materials, sizes, and designs of blind eye patch products of skin-adhesive type and glass-attachment type currently available in the market will be analyzed and ergonomically appropriate blind eye patches will be developed. Although these skin-adhesive type eye patches were easy to use, they had shortcomings such as skin troubles due to the adhesive used on the weak and sensitive skin of children and the fact that eyebrows are pulled out and the skin is irritated when the eye patches are detached after being attached. The non-adhesive type eye patches were blind patches to be worn by putting into glasses. These products were made using diverse materials such as neoprene, non-woven fabrics, and felt and showed differences in tactile impressions and irritation to the skin depending on material characteristics. In addition, most products were efficient in blocking light with three-dimensional oval designs comprising darts. In the present study, blind eye patches were designed to reduce skin troubles by using sweat-absorbing and quick-drying functional materials with soft tactile impressions. In addition, to increase the effect to block light and the degree of tight contact with the skin when the blind eye patches are worn compared to existing eye patch designs, the sides of the wings of the blind eye patches were widened, glass frame fixing plates were added, and the darts were made to be curved thereby making an ergonomic design reflecting the shape of the face. The non-adhesive type blind eye patches developed in the present study are considered to enhance the wearing sensation with the use of the material without skin irritation but with cushioning feelings and the ergonomic design reflecting the contour of the face.

  • This macroscopic observation was performed to investigate the aortic arch and their branches of the Korean native goat. Ten Korean native goats with black hairs ranging in body weight from 15 to 20kg were used. The findings were based on the latex cast of the vessels made by injection of neoprene latex. The results obtained were as follow; 1. The aortic arch of the Korean native goat gave off only one vessel, the Truncus brachiocephalicus. 2. The Truncus brachiocephalicus gave off the A. subclavia sinistra, the A. subclavia dextra and the Truncus bicaroticus. 3. The A. subclavia sinistra gave off the Truncus costocervicalis, the A. cervicalis superficialis and the A. thoracica interna, and continued as the A. axillaris sinistra. 4. The Truncus costocervicalis sinistra arose from the A. subclavia sinistra in all cases and gave off the A. scapularis dorsalis suprema and the A. cervicalis profunda, and continued as the A. vertebralis sinistra. 5. The branching pattern of the A. subclavia dextra was similar to that of the A. subclavia sinistra except the Truncus costocervicalis. The Truncus costocervicalis dextra was arisen together with the A. subclavia dextra in 8 out of 10 cases, while one of the remaining 2 cases arose as the first branch of the A. subclavia dextra and the other was given off directly from the Truncus brachiocephalicus. 6. The Truncus bicaroticus was continued from the Truncus brachiocephalicus after branching off the A. subclavia dextra in 8 out of 10 cases, but the Aa. carotidas communes sinistra and dextra were directly branched from the Truncus brachiocephalicus without forming the Truncus bicaroticus in the remaining 2 cases.

  • PURPOSES: The objectives of this study are to develop a new cold-applied crack sealant and to evaluate its properties and field applicability by comparing with other conventionally used crack sealants. METHODS : A new cold-applied crack sealant was developed by using neoprene latex to improve material properties. The fundamental properties such as viscosity, residue %, penetration, and softening point of the developed crack sealant were tested by TxDOT criteria to evaluate crack sealing capability. Moreover, the performance of the developed cold-applied crack sealant was evaluated under both laboratory and field conditions. In the laboratory, the bond property was evaluated using the developed cold-applied crack sealant and conventional hot-applied crack sealant by the bond-properties test standardized under ASTM D 6690. In the field, test sections were constructed on three areas: a trunk road, bus-only lane, and motorway, with the developed crack sealant and three conventional crack sealants. After construction, early field-inspection was performed on the test sections. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS : Overall, the developed cold-applied crack sealant demonstrates reasonable storage stability, durability, and bond property compared to conventional hot-applied crack sealants. From the test sections, it was established that the developed cold-applied crack sealant does not pose construction issues. Moreover, the early performance was verified through field inspection. However, as the field inspection was conducted a week after the construction, it is necessary to conduct an inspection of performance from a long-term point of view.

  • Consumer and property evaluation of wetsuit materials were conducted to obtain useful data for developing competitive products that meet consumer expectations and improving industrial competitiveness. Data were collected through online surveys of 213 domestic consumers who have experienced wearing wetsuit among marine leisure activities. Five types of commercial wet suit materials by brand and four types of commercial wet suit materials with the same quality by thickness were collected. Then, their physical properties, salt water resistance and thermal insulation rate were evaluated and compared. As a result, the most commonly used wetsuit material is 3 to 5 mm thick, and the basic jersey material is bonded on both sides. As a processing for imparting functionality, processing for improving warmth and reducing surface resistance are most frequently used. Consumers often feel uncomfortable when wearing a wetsuit, such as wearing comfort, weight, ease of movement, stretchability, and clothing pressure, which are different from those of casual wear. Also, mechanical strength and warmth were considered to be the most important criteria for selection of wetsuit material for purchase or rental. The mechanical properties of brand A and B were better than those of brand C, D, and E. Resilience and thermal shrinkage were better in brand C, D, and E. On the other hand, there was no significant difference in the physical properties due to the difference in thickness of the material at the same quality. Also, it was found that the thicker the material, the more stable it is in the heat. Brand A and B had superior salt water resistance than brand C, D, and E. In the thermal insulation test, brand A and B showed better insulation characteristics than brand C, D, and E, but the types of bonded fabric and surface finishing of materials were thought to have affected. In comparison of the thickness, the thicker the materials, the better the salt resistance and the thermal insulation.

  • EMSCT (Electrical Muscle Stimulation Conductive Textile) is an electrical muscle stimulation pad that can compensate for ease of use and comfort, which are disadvantages of conventional hydrogel pads used in electrical muscle stimulation (EMS). With the concentration with SWCNT (Single-Walled Carbon Nanotube) and the number of impregnation processes, EMSCT was tested by giving conductivity to five fabrics (radirons, neoprene, spandex cushions, poly100%, and vergamo). The padding process with SWCNT was performed, and the alternating current measurement indicated that the most similar alternating current with hydrogel was the Vergamo fabric of SWCNT:=2:1. Furthermore, the usability evaluation of convenience, usability, and psychological satisfaction results in increased usability of EMSCT compared with conventional hydrogel pads.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the concept of zero-waste design and to apply Sophia Vyzoviti's folding techniques to develop a zero-waste fashion design method that contributes to sustainable fashion design. In this study, we explore the method and characteristics of zero-waste fashion design based on the concept of folding described in Sophia Vyzoviti's book on folding techniques. Using the autonomy of Sophia Vyzoviti's folding technique, four changeable folding fashion designs were developed and produced, demonstrating zero-waste fashion design. The results were as follows. First, the development of fashion designs using Sophia Vyzoviti's folding techniques enabled the development and production of free and creative zero-waste fashion designs that were three-dimensional, continuous, fluid, and full of potential. Second, the production of zero-waste patterns was further developed into a transformable fashion design that can be used with geometric patterns. These folding techniques produced a fashion design method that could transform one piece of clothing, demonstration the potential for maintenance of creativity using a zero-waste design based on these folding techniques. Third, the double-faced fabric, Neoprene, was chosen as an appropriate material as it emphasizes the depth of folding with application of two colors and its cotton/polyester blend that is suitable for folding.
