Utterance Verification Using Anti-models Based on Neighborhood Information (이웃 정보에 기초한 반모델을 이용한 발화 검증)

  • In this paper, we investigate the relation between Bayes factor and likelihood ratio test (LRT) approaches and apply the neighborhood information of Bayes factor to building an alternate hypothesis model of the LRT system. To consider the neighborhood approaches, we contemplate a distance measure between models and algorithms to be applied. We also evaluate several methods to improve performance of utterance verification using neighborhood information. Among these methods, the system which adopts anti-models built by collecting mixtures of neighborhood models obtains maximum error rate reduction of 17% compared to the baseline, linear and weighted combination of neighborhood models.

  • Feature selection is the one of important issue in the field of data mining and machine learning. It is the technique to find a subset of features which provides the best classification performance, from the source data. We propose a feature subset selection method using the neighborhood rough set model based on information granularity. To demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed method, it was applied to select the useful features associated with breast tumor diagnosis of 298 shape features extracted from 5,252 breast ultrasound images, which include 2,745 benign and 2,507 malignant cases. Experimental results showed that 19 diagnostic features were strong predictors of breast cancer diagnosis and then average classification accuracy was 97.6%.

  • Variables representing neighborhood quality should be included in hedonic price models to control lfor the influences of negative or positive externalities from the quality of neighborhood on urban housing prices. This study proposes a GIS-based method to effectively measure the neighborhood quality variable when data on the neighborhood quality are aggregated by census sub area. This study also tests the superiority of the proposed neighborhood quality variable created by intensive use of GIS operations to a neighborhood variable not based on GIS operations in explaining the housing price variations by using Seoul's apartment sales data. The results from this study show that the neighborhood quality variable based on GIS-based operations shows better performance in explaining the urban housing price variations in Seoul's housing market. The implication from the results is that the potentials of GIS-based spatial operations in creating neighborhood quality variables should be well acknowledged by the researchers in the area of urban housing market study and GIS-based spatial operations should be more actively applied to generate better neighborhood quality variables for hedonic price models.

A Novel Filter ed Bi-Histogram Equalization Method

  • Here, we present a new framework for histogram equalization in which both local and global contrasts are enhanced using neighborhood metrics. When checking neighborhood information, filters can simultaneously improve image quality. Filters are chosen depending on image properties, such as noise removal and smoothing. Our experimental results confirmed that this does not increase the computational cost because the filtering process is done by our proposed arrangement of making the histogram while checking neighborhood metrics simultaneously. If the two methods, i.e., histogram equalization and filtering, are performed sequentially, the first method uses the original image data and next method uses the data altered by the first. With combined histogram equalization and filtering, the original data can be used for both methods. The proposed method is fully automated and any spatial neighborhood filter type and size can be used. Our experiments confirmed that the proposed method is more effective than other similar techniques reported previously.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide a basic information for the plan of neighborhood facilities as residential environment. For the purpose of this study, this paper is to investigate all criteria of neighborhood unit on the related laws and regulations, As a result, the legal criteria of neighborhood unit has come to no conclusion of terms(the neighborhood life facilities, the life benifit facilities, the neighborhood facilities, etc.) and ranges(the density of population, the number of floors, etc). Therefore a consistent neighborhood unit can be applied to the development plans of new cities as well as new residential areas for the future.

The Impact of Neighborhood Settings on Peer Risks among Delinquent Adolescents

  • The main purpose of this study was to identify the impact of neighborhood settings on peer risks experienced by delinquent adolescents. A convenience sample of 1,086 youth who came to the attention of four county juvenile courts was used for the present study. The peer risk levels were measured through use of version 1.0 of the Global Risk Assessment Device (GRAD); in addition, neighborhood information obtained from the National Census was utilized. The results of the HLM demonstrated that there were significant between-neighborhood variations in peer risks and the neighborhood economic disadvantage variable was associated with peer risks after controlling for the variables of individual characteristics. The findings of this study add to the literature on juvenile delinquency by providing empirical support for the proposed model that illustrates the significant relationship between a neighborhood setting indicator and peer risks experienced by delinquent adolescents when practicing treatment or intervention programs with delinquent adolescents.

A Fast CU Size Decision Optimal Algorithm Based on Neighborhood Prediction for HEVC

  • High efficiency video coding (HEVC) employs quadtree coding tree unit (CTU) structure to improve its coding efficiency, but at the same time, it also requires a very high computational complexity due to its exhaustive search processes for an optimal coding unit (CU) partition. With the aim of solving the problem, a fast CU size decision optimal algorithm based on neighborhood prediction is presented for HEVC in this paper. The contribution of this paper lies in the fact that we successfully use the partition information of neighborhood CUs in different depth to quickly determine the optimal partition mode for the current CU by neighborhood prediction technology, which can save much computational complexity for HEVC with negligible RD-rate (rate-distortion rate) performance loss. Specifically, in our scheme, we use the partition information of left, up, and left-up CUs to quickly predict the optimal partition mode for the current CU by neighborhood prediction technology, as a result, our proposed algorithm can effectively solve the problem above by reducing many unnecessary prediction and partition operations for HEVC. The simulation results show that our proposed fast CU size decision algorithm based on neighborhood prediction in this paper can reduce about 19.0% coding time, and only increase 0.102% BD-rate (Bjontegaard delta rate) compared with the standard reference software of HM16.1, thus improving the coding performance of HEVC.

  • Recently many researches on data analysis using spatial statistics have been studied in various field and the studies on small area estimations using spatial statistics are in actively progress. In analysis of lattice data, defining the neighborhood information system is the most crucial procedure because it also determines the result of the analysis. However the used neighborhood informal ion system is generally defined by sharing the common border lines of small areas. In this paper the other neighborhood information systems are introduced and those systems are compared with Moran's I statistic and for the comparisons, Economic Active Population Survey (2001) is used.

Neighborhood Search Algorithms for the Maximal Covering Problem (이웃해 탐색 기법을 이용한 Maximal Covering 문제의 해결)

  • Various techniques have been applied to solve the maximal covering problem. Tabu search is also one of them. But, existing researches were lacking of the synthetic analysis and the effort for performance improvement about neighborhood search techniques such as hill-climbing search and simulated annealing including tabu search. In this paper, I introduce the way to improve performance of neighborhood search techniques through various experiments and analyses. Basically, all neighborhood search algorithms use the k-exchange neighborhood generation method. And I analyzed how the performance of each algorithm changes according to various parameter settings. Experimental results have shown that simple hill-climbing search and simulated annealing can produce better results than any other techniques. And I confirmed that simple hill-climbing search can produce similar results as simulated annealing unlike general case.

The analysis of elderly using behavior and propinquity of neighborhood facilities (서울지역 노인들의 근린시설 이용실태와 근접정도에 대한 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine elderly using behavior and propinquity of neighborhood facilities and to analyze the relationship of propinquity and using behavior of each neighborhood facility. The results of the study indicated that the elderly are using more frequently and living more close to leisure facility such as sports/health facility, hobby/education facility, and entertainment facility. Age and health status of the elderly were the important factors on the use and propinquity of neighborhood facilities. On the other hand, the elderly having higher education and economic status were more likely to use and live close to leisure facilities. For the elderly, the need of physical propinquity to neighborhood facilities and providing information about the facility location were required. For the mid-aged people, the education about leisure culture of the later-hood years were suggested since the use of neighborhood facility is depending on one's habit.
