  • Undeniably, endothelial cells (EC) contribute to the maintenance of the homeostasis of the organism through modulating cellular physiology, including signaling pathways, through the release of highly active molecules as well as the response to a myriad of extrinsic and intrinsic signaling factors. Review the data from the current literature on the EC role in norm and disease. Endothelium maintains a precise balance between the released molecules, where EC dysfunction arises when the endothelium actions shift toward vasoconstriction, the proinflammatory, prothrombic properties after the alteration of nitric oxide (NO) production and oxidative stress. The functions of the EC are regulated by the negative/positive feedback from the organism, through EC surface receptors, and the crosstalk between NO, adrenergic receptors, and oxidative stress. More than a hundred substances can interact with EC. The EC dysfunction is a hallmark in the emergence and progression of vascular-related pathologies. The paper concisely reviews recent advances in EC (patho) physiology. Grasping EC physiology is crucial to gauge their potential clinical utility and optimize the current therapies as well as to establish novel nanotherapeutic molecular targets include; endothelial receptors, cell adhesion molecules, integrins, signaling pathways, enzymes; peptidases.

  • This study was conducted to compare and analyse work-related injuries, physical and mental health status of nurses according to working environment. The subjects were 192 nurses working at a university hospital in Seoul. After analyzing each categories of health status by working environment and work-related injuries, meaningful differences were found physical and mental health status. And shift work was significantly related to work-related injuries compared to non-shift work. In addition, it was confirmed that nurses have negative influences from night work in physical and mental health compared to other work pattern. Thus, it would be necessary to improve working system with considering their health problems caused by working environment and work-related injuries. And we will have to be a study for effective night work and additional support for night workers.

  • This thesis was investigated on optical-and ion-induced characteristics in positive(a-$Se_{75}Ge_{25}$) and negative (Ag/a-$Se_{75}Ge_{25}$) resists for focused-ion-beam microlithogaphy. The a-$Se_{75}Ge_{25}$ inorganic thin film shows an increase in optical absorption after exposure to$\sim$$10^{16}$ dose(ions/$cm^{2}$) of Ga ions. The observed shift in the absorption edge toward longer wavelengths is consistent with that in films exposed to band-gap photons ($\sim$$10^{20}$ photons/$cm^{2}$). But, ion induced shift is twice as much as that in film exposed to optical radiation. This result may be related with microstructural rearrangements with in the short range of SeGe network. Due to changes in the short range order, the chemical bonding may be affected, which results in increased chemical dissolution in ion-induced film. Also, this resist exhibits good thermal stability because of its high Tg(~220$^{\circ}C$). The composition of deposited film measured by AES is consistent with that of bulk.

  • We report the case of a 30-year-old man who was presented with transient calcification on the graft shortly after anterior cruciate ligament(ACL) reconstruction using a autogenous bone patellar tendon. The patient underwent ACL reconstruction with two incisional technique and six month later, calcific density was seen radiologically around the graft. On postoperative 13 months follow-up radiographic films, the calcific density disappeared. After two months of operation, Lachman and pivot shift test were negative and one millimeter side to side difference was detected in KT-1000 with 20 Ibs strength. But 6 months after the reconstruction, mild anterior instability was detected with the calcific density around the grafted tendon. However the anterior stability was recovered according to the disappearance of calcific density.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the predictors of blood and body fluid exposure (BBFE) in multifaceted individual (sleep disturbance and fatigue), occupational (occupational stress), and organizational (hospital safety climate) factors, as well as infection prevention behavior. We also aimed to test the mediating effect of infection prevention behavior in relation to multifaceted factors and the frequency of BBFE. Methods: This study was based on a secondary data analysis, using data of 246 nurses from the Shift Work Nurses' Health and Turnover study. Based on the characteristics of zero-inflated and over-dispersed count data of frequencies of BBFE, the data were analyzed to calculate zero-inflated negative binomial regression within a generalized linear model and to test the mediating effect using SPSS 25.0, Stata 14.1, and PROCESS macro. Results: We found that the frequency of BBFE increased in subjects with disturbed sleep (IRR = 1.87, p = .049), and the probability of non-BBFE increased in subjects showing higher infection prevention behavior (IRR = 15.05, p = .006) and a hospital safety climate (IRR = 28.46, p = .018). We also found that infection prevention behavior had mediating effects on the occupational stress-BBFE and hospital safety climate-BBFE relationships. Conclusion: Sleep disturbance is an important risk factor related to frequency of BBFE, whereas preventive factors are infection prevention behavior and hospital safety climate. We suggest individual and systemic efforts to improve sleep, occupational stress, and hospital safety climate to prevent BBFE occurrence.

  • Proto-oncogene human cervical cancer oncogene (HCCR) functions as a negative regulator of p53 and contributes to tumorigenesis in various human tissues. However, it is unknown how HCCR contributes to the cellular and biochemical mechanisms of human tumorigenesis. In this study, we showed how the expression of HCCR is modulated. The luciferase activity assay indicated that the HCCR 5'-flanking region at positions -370 to -406 plays an important role in the promoter activity. Computational analysis of this region identified one consensus sequence for the TG-interacting factor (TGIF) located at -390 to -366 (TG). Mobility shift assays (EMSA) revealed that nuclear proteins from K562 bind to the TG site, but not to the mutated TG site. The reporter activity assay with promoter constructs carrying mutated TGIF sequences pGL3-mTGIF significantly increased reporter activities compared to wild type constructs pGL3-$406{\sim}+30$. In this study, we characterized the HCCR promoter and found that HCCR expression was partially regulated by the transcription repressor TGIF, which bound the promoter at positions -390 to -366.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to determine factors affecting workers' physiological somatic complain using the Job Stress Model proposed by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Method: Data were collected from the 1st to the 30th of December 1999. The subjects were 2.123 workers employed at 155 work sites. Collected date were analyzed through SAS/PC program. Result: According to individual characteristics, younger and women groups showed significantly higher physiological somatic complaint than elder men groups. By work condition, groups with higher physiological somatic complaint included workers of irregular shift work. Dark lighting, improper temperature in winter, improper ventilation, inappropriate humidity, unpleasant work environment and crowded work place were significantly related with physiological somatic complaint. By work-related factor, physiological somatic complaint was high in those with higher variance in work load, quantitative work load, role conflict, job burden, role ambiguity and future ambiguity. On the other hand, physiological somatic complaint was low in those with little underutilization of ability. As for the relationships between physiological somatic complaint and non-work related factors, physiological somatic complaint was high in workers who had a side job, were bringing up infants alone, cleaned the house alone, cared for the elderly and disabled persons, were studying, were volunteering at another organization, and were spending 5-10 hours in religious activities per week. Physiological somatic complain was in significantly negative correlations with overall social support, supervisory support and family support, but in significantly positive correlations with co-worker support. Conclusion: The main predictors of physiological somatic complain were gender, shift work pattern, overtime work, ventilation, role ambiguity, role conflict, future ambiguity, job control, variance in work load, overall social support, worker with side job, worker who cleans the house alone, worker who is studying. These predictors explained 19.10% of the total variance of physiological somatic complain.

  • The author performed this study to investige the relationship between condylar movements recorded with Pantronicⓡ and mandibular rotational torque movements with BioEGNⓡ. For this study 56 patients with Temporomandibular disorders(TMD) and 30 dental students without any masticatory signs and symptoms were selected as patients group and control group, respectively. The items recorded with Pantronicⓡ(Denar Corp., USA) were immediate side-shift, progressive side-shift, angle of orbiting path, protrusive path and PRI. BioEGNⓡ(Bioelectric gnathography, Bioresearch Inc., USA) were used to measure the amounts of mandibular rotational torque movements in frontal and horizontal plane, and the distance of mandibular translation at incisal area. Amount of mandibular rotational torque movement depicted between the condyles was automatically analysed by angle and difference in frontal and horizontal plane. The obtained data were processed with SAS program and the conclusion of this study were as follows : 1. Mean values of items between patients group and control group in Pantronic measurements were not significantly different except in left protrusive path and in Pantronic Reproducibility Index(PRI). There were no significant difference of condylar paths by preferred chewing side and affected side between the two groups. 2. The amount of mandibular rotational torque movements were differed in frontal angle and difference on protrusion, and in frontal and in horizontal difference on left excursion between the two groups. But the amounts of translatory movements were actually same on all eccentric movements. 3. The amount of mandibular rotational torque movements with splint mere almost not changed from those without splint, with the exception of in horizontal measurements on protrusion. 4. The correlations of items between in Pantronic measurements and in BioEGN measurements wert not consistently, significant, however, generally the ISS related significantly with horizontal torque movement positively, and with frontal torque movement negatively on the contrary, the PSS showed positive correlation with frontal torque movement, and negative correlation with horizontal torque movement.

  • The critical micelle concentration(CMC) of CTAB was determined with changes in absorbance at 202nm band of 4-biphenyl acetate($BPA^-$). With $BPA^-$ as a probe, the effect of temperature on CMC of CTAB has been observed between $30^{\circ}C{\sim}70^{\circ}C$. In this range of temperature the values of CMC are $1.18{\times}10^{-4}{\sim}2.02{\times}10^{-4}M$. The free energy(${\Delta}G^{\circ}m$) and enthalpy(${\Delta}H^{\circ}m$)for the micellization of CTAB was negative and the entropy(${\Delta}S^{\circ}m$) was a large positive value. The micellization of CTAB is considered as a spontaneous process and to involve a phase transition. The orientational binding of 4-biphenyl acetate anion to the CTAB micelle interface has been studied with $300MHz\;H^1-NMR$ data. The change in chemical shift of proton in CTAB as well as those of the protons in $BPA^-$ have been investigated by increasing the mole fraction of the anion in the mixed solutions. The changes in chemical shift with increasing mole fraction of anion($BPA^-$) indicate the formation of mixed micelle between CTAB and $BPA^-$. The changes in chemical shifts of methylene protons in CTAB, demonstrate the penetration of $BPA^-$ into the palisade layer of the CTAB micelle.

  • The effect of pressure and temperature on the stabilities of the charge transfer complexes of 1,3,5-trinitrobenzene, tetrachloro-p-benzoquinone and tetracyanoethylene with hexamethylbenzene in carbon tetrachloride has been investigated by spectrophotometric measurements. The equilibrium constants for the formation of the complexes were obtained at various temperature and pressure, and thermodynamic parameters for the formation of the charge transfer complexes are calculated from these values. The relative stabilities of charge transfer complexes with hexamethylbenzene increase in the order; 1,3,5-trinitrobenzene < tetrachloro-p-benzoquinone < tetracyanoethylene. This may be regarded as an order of relative acidity of these compounds in complexation with hexamethylbenzene and is explained in terms of the negative inductive effect of the ${\pi}$ acceptors. The red-shift at higher pressure, the blue-shift at higher temperature and the relation between pressure and oscillator strength are discussed on the basis of thermodynamic functions.
