Methods : Twenty-seven children and adolescents and their caretakers who visited the Kangwon Sunflower Center participated in a cross-sectional study. Participants completed the Korean version of Kiddie-Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia-Present and Lifetime Version, Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL), and Child Health Questionnaire-Parent Form-50 (CHQ-PF-50). Their scores were compared with those of a age and sex-matched control group of 27 healthy children and adolescents. Results : Victims of sexual violence showed higher t score in Withdrawn, Social problems, Delinquent behavior, Externalizing problems, and Total problems in CBCL, compared with control group. In CHQ-PF-50, there were lower scores on Bodily pain/discomfort, Behavior, Mental health, Time impact in parents, and Family activities subscales in victims of sexual violence. While Behavior and Family activities subscale showed negative correlations with Delinquent behavior, Externalizing problems, and Total problems in CBCL. Mental health subscale showed negative correlations with Social problems, Delinquent behavior, Externalizing problems, and Total problems. In addition, Time impact on parent subscale showed a negative association with Delinquent behavior in CBCL. Conclusion : The current study provided evidence suggesting that victims of sexual violence had a higher level of psychopathology and lower level of quality of life.
This study investigated the changes of consciousness and ambivalent attitudes about the important environmental issues among the teachers who enrolled the environmental education training. Experimental and control groups were composed with 47 and 30 person, respectively. Environmental issues were constructions of sea-wall, nuclear power plant and dam. Cronbach alpha of the self-developed questionnaire was $0.6909{\sim}0.8992$. Score were made with 5 Likert scales for consciousness, and with semantic differential half scale for ambivalent attitudes. Almost teachers(94.0% and 97.1%) have above 10 years teaching career. Strangers in environmental program were 53.2%. After environmental training, teachers' consciousness was significantly changed to negative about the construction of sea-wall for the farm field and industry complex area(p=0.019), and about the construction of dam for disaster like flood(p=0.026), and for adverse effects of citizen by fog(p=0.042). They were also significantly changed to negative about the construction of nuclear power plant for economical energy(p=0.004)', no-emission of greenhouse gases(p=0.033)', 'alternative energy(p=0.000)', 'destruction of ecology(p=0.052)' and 'social fear(p=0.009)'. The consciousness of teachers who have the experience of environmental training, were significantly changed to negative about the construction of nuclear power plant. Scores of teachers' ambivalent attitudes were made lower in experimental than control group about the construction of sea-wall and nuclear power plant. After education training, they were made lower so much as -10.0% in control, but higher much as +4.4% in experimental, and severely higher much as 86.5% in teachers who had experienced the environmental training about construction of sea-wall. Their scores were made lower so much as -3.3% in control, but much as -6.4% in control.
Objective: This study examined the relationships among attention deficits/hyper activities problems(ADHD problems), executive function difficulties, and social capital inside the family, especially with the mediating effect of social capital inside the family, in children from dual-income households. Methods: The participants were 401 children from dual-income households from the eighth wave of the Panel Study on Korean Children. They belonged into lower and higher ADHD problems groups that showed below 25% or more than 75% of ADHD screening items' total score. The data were analyzed by t-test, correlation analysis and mediating effect test by PROCESS macro 3.5.3.. Results: Children's executive function difficulties and social capital inside the family were significantly different between the two lower and higher ADHD problems groups. A mediating effect was found based on the negative relationships between the social capital inside the family including mother's warm childrearing behavior and positive coparenting, and children's executive function difficulties. Children's ADHD problems had a negative influence on each of the two social capital variables and each of the two variables had a negative influence on the executive function difficulties. Conclusion/Implications: These results emphasize the meaningful role of social capital inside the family in the development of first graders with ADHD problems from dual-income households.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the overall levels of the middle-aged employed men's attitudes toward retirement and plans for post-retirement life, and to explore the relative effects of personal, family, and job characteristics on retirement attitude and the level of retirement plan. The data were collected from the 438 middle-aged (ranging from 41 to 50) employed men through the structured questionnaires. The data were analyzed using frequency, percentile, average, standard deviation, and multiple regression analysis. The results of the data analysis show that most of the respondents had neither positive nor negative attitude toward retirement and the level of planning for post-retirement life was slightly higher than average score on the scale. Next, the positive attitudes of middle-aged employed men toward retirement were observed from those who have higher education, larger household income, higher job security and lower job stress respondents who hold professional, administrative, or official jobs were more positive toward retirement than those who hold professional, administrative, or official jobs were more positive toward retirement than those who hold manufacturing or sales job. A well-planned post-retirement life was found among those who have better health, higher job satisfaction, job security and job orientation. Job characteristic variables such as job security and job satisfaction showed stronger impact than personal or family ones on the attitude toward retirement and the level of retirement planning. Household income and health also had significant effects.
The purpose of this study was to compare weight control behaviour, eating habits and health-related life habits according to the obesity degree by body fat percentage (%Fat) among middle-aged women. The subjects were 170 middle-aged women who lived Gunsan City, and they were assigned to one of the following groups based on their %Fat; normal weight group (18% - < 28%), overweight group (28% - < 33%) and obesity group (over 33%). The height, body weight, %Fat, the circumference of waist and hip of them were measured. Eating habits and health-related life habits were evaluated based on questionnaires. The results were as follows. Their weight, %Fat, body mass index (BMI), relative body weight (RBW), waist, hip, and waist-hip ratio (WHR) were significantly higher in the obesity subjects when compared to the normal and overweight subjects. Self-perception for weight (p < 0.001), desire for weight control (p < 0.01), and reasons of weight control (p < 0.05) were different among three groups. The main skipped meal was breakfast (67.9%), reasons of skipping meals were different among three groups (p < 0.05), and main reasons were "lose one's appetite" and "have not enough time". Food habits score for each food was not significantly different among three groups, but eating the meal on thinking with food combination in normal group was higher than overweight and obesity group (p < 0.01). Correlation coefficients of food habits score and anthropometric measurements were that salty of food was negative and food habits scores were positive correlation for anthropometric measurements and obesity index (p < 0.05 - p < 0.001). Frequency of exercise and fitting exercise for body were different among three groups (p < 0.05). Obesity group was lower frequency of exercise than the other groups. Regular diet was positive correlation with food combination (p < 0.01), taking fish (p < 0.05), taking vegetables (p < 0.01), taking bean products (p < 0.01) and food habits score (p < 0.01), frequency of eating out and snacks were negative correlation with taking fruits and fishes. Therefore, proper nutritional education for middle-aged women in obesity group is recommended regular diet, good food habits and exercise. The middle-aged women must decrease the frequency of eating out, snack and the salty foods, and increase the fruits and vegetables. They must have healthy life styles for exercise, smoking, and drinking.
The purposes of this study were to investigate stress responses of senior high school students(examines) preparing for college entrance examination and to identify the relationship between stress responses and self-esteem. The subjects of this study were 261 senior high school students from three high schools located in three different Gu Seoul Korea. Data were collected from 19th to 27th march, 1998. Stress responses were measured by SOS (symptoms of stress) inventory and self- esteem was measured by Rosenberg's self-esteem scale. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation coefficient. The results were as follows : 1. The mean SOS score of subjects was 1.22 and that showed statistically significant according to gender difference (t=-6.00, P<0.0001) and father's occupations (F=3.10, P=0.006). 2. The mean self-esteem score was 2.77 and that showed statistically significant difference according to economic status(F=3.96, P=0.02) and father's occupations (F=2.71, P=0.01). 3. There was significant negative correlation between the mean SOS score and the mean self-esteem score(r=-0.31, P=0.0001). In conclusion, the examines had very high physiological and psychological stress responses and especially female showed higher stress responses than male. For this reason, school nurses are recommended (1)to develop appropriate stress management technique, (2) to provide more intensive care for health of female examines Nursing intervention should be developed for enhancing self-esteem of examines because self-esteem is negatively correlated with SOS.
This study was carried out to investigate perceptions of body image, body satisfaction, and dietary habits of beauty art major and non-major college students in Gyeonggi province. A total of 312 self-administered questionnaires (beauty art majors=145; non-majors=167) were analyzed. The means for height, weight, and BMI were 161.7 cm, 51.4 kg and 19.7, respectively. There were more majors who were underweight according to BMI classification than non-majors. Sixty-six percent of the subjects had previous weight control experience, and there was no significant difference between the majors and non-majors. The mean score for current body image was 4.61 out of a possible 9 points in the majors, which was significantly lower than 4.95 in the non-majors, and their perception of an ideal body image was thinner than their current body image. Those with more weight control experience had currently heavier perceptions of their body. The mean score for body satisfaction was 2.60 out of a possible 5 points, which was lower than the mean score for their attitudes toward the importance of their bodies. The mean score for dietary habits was 2.80 out of a possible 5 points, and there was no significant difference with dietary habits according to weight control experience or BMI classification. In both the majors and non-majors, there was a significant positive correlation between BMI and perception of current body image (p<0.001, p<0.001), and a negative correlation between BMI and body satisfaction (p<0.01, p<0.001). In the major students, there were significant positive correlations between dietary habits and body satisfaction (p<0.01), and attitudes toward the body importance (p<0.05); therefore, the greater their body satisfaction and body importance, the higher their scores for dietary habits.
