  • Zero Voltage Transition Pulse Width Modulation (ZVT-PWM) converter with active snubber circuit was proposed on this paper. The converter that has been proposed snubber circuit can be operated at the condition of light load range, and this converter is turned on and off near by Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) or Zero Current Switching (ZCS). If the stress of voltage and current are not occurred at the main switch and main diode, we subjected the allowed level of voltage and current on the auxiliary switch and auxiliary diodes. By proposed 750[W], 80[KHz] PWM boost converter to apply soft switching on the power of total output, the loss of main switch to compare with hard switching was reduced about 27[%], and the loss of total circuit was reduced about 36[%]. The total efficiency was increased about 6[%] to compare with general converter.

  • It is currently agreed upon that one of the major challenges in the construction industry is the energy efficiency of existing buildings. The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and United Nations (UN) have reported that the concentration of global atmospheric carbon dioxide has increased by an average of 50%, a record speed, from 2015 to 2016. The housing sector contributes to 45% of the UK's carbon emissions. To help tackle some of those issues the recast Energy Performance Building Directive (EBPD) has introduced Nearly Zero Energy Buildings (NZEBs) in the coming years (including buildings that will undergo refurbishment/renovations). This paper will explore the retrofitting of a UK residential dwelling using Thermal Analysis Simulation (TAS, EDSL) software by focusing on building fabric improvements and usage of on-site renewables. The CIBSE Test Reference Year (TRY) weather data has been selected to examine the performance of the building under current and future climate projections. The proposed design variables were finally implemented in the building altogether on TAS. The simulation results showed a reduction in the building's annual energy consumption of $122.64kWh/m^2$ (90.24%). The greatest savings after this were achieved for the annual reduction in carbon emissions and avoided emissions, which were 84.59% and $816.47kg/CO_2$, respectively.

  • The normal state of high-Tc superconducting materials has been believed to contain important clues to finding the correct mechanism of the high-Tc superconductivity. One example is the existence of pseudogap in the normal state even above Tc, as observed in various measurements such as photoemission spectroscopy and tunneling conductance. In this pseudogap regime the existence of preformed pairs only with local phase coherence has been debated. Recently Choi, Bang, and Campbell[1] have proposed the occurrence of the zero-bias conductance enhancement due to Andreev quasiparticle reflection from the preformed pairs even with the local phase coherence. In this study we examine the zero-bias enhancement of the differential conductance near or slightly above Tc, using c-axis tunneling in mesa structure of Bi2Sr20a0u208+d single crystals. In slightly overdoped samples zero-bias conductance enhancement (ZBCE) has been observed over a range of 2 K above Tc. In contrast, in underdoped samples with Tc${\sim}$72K the ZBCE appears over a range of 5-6 K above Tc, a much wider temperature range than in overdoped samples. This result may pose as positive signs of the existence of prefurmed pairs in the normal state of high- Tc superconducting materials.

  • For the last couple of decades, the Fenton (-like) systems have been extensively studied for oxidation of organic contaminants in water. Recently, zero-valent iron (ZVI) has received attention as a Fenton catalyst as well as a reducing agent capable of producing reactive oxidants from oxygen. In this study, the ZVI-based Fenton reaction was assessed for the oxidative degradation of phenol using $ZVI/O_2$, $ZVI/H_2O_2$, ZVI/Oxalate/$O_2$ and hv/ZVI/Oxalate/$O_2$ systems. Reaction parameters such as pH and reagent dose (e.g., ZVI, $H_2O_2$, and oxalate) were examined. In the presence of oxalate (ZVI/Oxalate/$O_2$ and hv/ZVI/Oxalate/$O_2$ systems), the degradation of phenol was greatly enhanced at neutral pH values. It was found that ZVI accelerates the Fenton reaction by reducing Fe(III) into Fe(II). The conversion of Fe(III) into Fe(II) by ZVI was more stimulated at acidic pH than at near-neutral pH values.

  • A code is developed to simulate a viscous flow field around a deformable body using the hybrid Cartesian/immersed boundary method. In this method, the immersed boundary(IB) nodes are defined near the body boundary then velocities at the IB nodes are reconstructed based on the interpolation along the normal direction to the body surface. A new method is suggested to define the IB nodes so that a closed fluid domain is guaranteed by a set of IB nodes and the method is applicable to a zero-thickness body such as a sail. To validate the developed code, the vorticity fields are compared with other recent calculations where a cylinder orbits and moves into its own wake. It is shown the code can handle a sharp trailing edge at Reynolds number of $10^5$ under moderate requirements on girds. Finally the developed code is applied to simulate the vortex shedding behind a deforming foil with flapping tail like a fish. It is shown that the acceleration of fluids near the flapping tail contributes to the generation of the thrust for propulsion.

  • In this paper we consider the evolution of the rolling stone with a rotationally symmetric nonconvex compact initial surface ${\Sigma}_0$ under the Gauss curvature flow. Let $X:S^n{\times}[0,\;{\infty}){\rightarrow}\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ be the embeddings of the sphere in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ such that $\Sigma(t)=X(S^n,t)$ is the surface at time t and ${\Sigma}(0)={\Sigma}_0$. As a consequence the parabolic equation describing the motion of the hypersurface becomes degenerate on the interface separating the nonconvex part from the strictly convex side, since one of the curvature will be zero on the interface. By expressing the strictly convex part of the surface near the interface as a graph of a function $z=f(r,t)$ and the non-convex part of the surface near the interface as a graph of a function $z={\varphi}(r)$, we show that if at time $t=0$, $g=\frac{1}{n}f^{n-1}_{r}$ vanishes linearly at the interface, the $g(r,t)$ will become smooth up to the interface for long time before focusing.

  • This study investigated the magnetic properties and frequency dispersion of complex permeability of Ni-Zn-Co ferrites used for magnetic shielding in near field communication (NFC) system. The sintered specimens of $(Ni_{0.7}Zn_{0.3})_{1-x}Co_xFe_2O_4$ composition were prepared by the conventional ceramic processing. The coercive force and saturation magnetization were measured by vibrating sample magnetometer. The complex permeability was measured by RF impedance analyzer in the range of 1 MHz~1.8 GHz. The coercive force increased and saturation magnetization decreased with increasing the Co substitution. The real and imaginary parts of complex permeability decreased and the resonance frequency increased with Co substitution, which was attributed to the increase in crystal anisotropy field and reduction in saturation magnetization. The effect of Co substitution could be found in reducing the magnetic loss to nearly zero at the operating frequency of NFC (13.56 MHz).

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the basic relationships between spectral reflectance and varying concentrations of sediment in surface waters. An experimental method for determining suspended sediment concentration (SSC) in the water by use of a spectroradiometer above the water surface, in visible and near-infrared (NIR) wavelengths, is applied. The main advantage of the method is the direct comparison of spectral reflectance and the SSC, but it requires an accurate knowledge of the water body and sediment. Therefore numerous spectroradiometric measurements are carried out in situ measurements, for SSC, ranging from zero to 100 percentage and two types of sediment applied in the water tank. The results indicate that the suspended sediment causes increasing spectral reflectance response in waters. We observed that spectral reflectance increases with SSC, first at the lower wavelengths (430-480 nm), then in the middle wavelengths (570-700 nm), and finally, in the NIR domain (800-820 nm); a characteristic maximum reflectance appears at 400-670 nm. Relationships between the wavelength, integral value, and the SSC were evaluated on the basis of the regression analysis. The regression curve for the relation between the wavelength, integral value, and the SSC were determined ($R^2$>0.98). Finally, the specular wavelength can be estimated to recognize the sediment and to improve SC estimation accuracy in the water.

  • Wheat is one of the most important cereal grain in the world, and also the staple next to rice in Korea based on its consumption. Although wheat planted area was dramatically decreased during late two decades in Korea compared to those of 1960s, fortunately there has been a continuous effort in recent to revive the wheat cultivating in this country by the non-government organizations such as Woorimil, Kanong etc. As the resusts, the cultivation area has increased to 3,792ha in 2004 from near zero ha of late 1980s. However there are many a pending problem that has to be solve In near future to enlarge the area more and more. The improvement of the postharvest technologies in wheat is one of the homeworks. This paper presents the numerous technologies that are applied to wheat as it moved from the field to final users. it investigated the technologies for harvesting, drying, storing and handling, insect management, and transporting, and blending in advanced wheat producing country..

  • Magnetic field induced structural transition has been systematically investigated for $La_{1-x}Ba_xMnO_3$ with the fine control of carrier doping $(0.15{\leq}x{\leq}0.20)$. Application of a magnetic field results in the suppression of the rhombohedral-orthorhombic transition temperature $(T_s)$ and the increase of insulator-metal transition temperature $(T_{MI})$. Near x = 0.17, where $T_S$ is similar to $T_{MI}$ at zero magnetic field, we found that the $T_S$ smoothly decreased with magnetic field even though it intersected the $T_{MI}$ near 3 T. Also, the magnetostructural phase diagram obtained from the temperature sweep and from the magnetic field sweep is not significantly modified. By comparing the magnetostructural transition in $La_{1-x}Sr_xMnO_3$, we have suggested that the large disorder originated from ionic size differences between La and Ba may weaken the sensitivity of the kinetic energy of $e_g$ electrons on the degree of lattice distortion in $La_{1-x}Ba_xMnO_3$.
