  • This paper aims to evaluate works of Frege and G$\ddot{o}$del, who play the trigger role in development of logic, by Knowledge Change Model. It identifies where their positions are in the model respectively. For this purpose I suggest types of knowledge change and their criteria for the evaluation. Knowledge change are classified into five types according to the degree of its change: improvement, weak glorious revolution, glorious revolution, strong glorious revolution, and total revolution. Criteria to evaluate the change are its contents, influence, pervasive effects, and so forth. The Knowledge Change Model consists of the types and the criteria. I argue that in the model Frege belongs to the total revolution and G$\ddot{o}$del to the weak glorious revolution. If we accept that the revolution in logic initiated by Frege was completed by G$\ddot{o}$del, it is a natural conclusion.

  • Rafter is a member for roof and plays a role in protecting shaft members under rafter such as pillar, beam and girder from natural environment and to fix by supporting finished materials of roof. It is common in the Korean architecture that rafter cross-section is paired with circular form and Buyeon cross-section is paired with the square shape. However, while there are not many, some architectures have rafter end header in the square shape. The aim of this study is to examine the square shape cases of rafter end header with special reference to stone structure. As a result, among stone structure related to Bangyeon, the majority case is seen at Palgakwondang type Seungtap. It was shown in the Seungtap of monk of Gusanseonmun school in the later Unified Silla to the early Goryeo period that succeeded Seodang Jijang.

  • This study aims at the structural analysis of vibration and fatigue according to the tie rod configuration. The maximum displacement amplitude is happened at 156Hz by harmonic vibration analysis, this tie rod model can be broken as the weakest state. Among the cases of nonuniform fatigue loads, 'SAE bracket history' with the severest change of load becomes most unstable but 'Sine wave' becomes most stable. In case of 'Sine wave' with the average stress of 0MPa and the amplitude stress of 570MPa, the possibility of maximum damage becomes 70%. This stress state can be shown with 140 times more than the damage possibility of 'SAE bracket history' or 'SAE transmission'. The structural result of this study can be effectively utilized with the design on tie rod by investigating prevention and durability against its damage.

  • In this paper, we give answers to some interesting questions about a Confucian scholar and mathematician in the late Joseon Dynasty, CHOI Seok-Jeong(崔錫鼎, 1646-1715), who was inducted into the Science and Technology Hall of Fame (http://kast.or.kr/HALL) for his mathematical achievements in October, 2013. In particular, we discover that CHOI Seok-Jeong was able to devote his natural abilities and time to do research on mathematics, and that he frequently communicated with his friend and fellow scholar, LEE Se-Gu(李世龜, 1646-1700), who was an expert on the astronomical calendar and mathematics, based on at least 24 letters between the two.

  • This survey paper aims to compare two significant figures in the history of Haute Couture e.g, Paul Poiret and Coco Chanel, who played a leading role between 1910 and 1930. It is found here that they have common features with respect to giving freedom to body through costume, enlarging Garconne Mode, creating more value of Costume Jewelry, exploiting advertisement strategy using models, proving exotic styles, and last but not the least contributing to Haute Couture. The research shows, however, that Poiret differs from Chanel in that he made most of various natural colors whereas Chanel used black or beige colors that had been rarely used woman wear previously. They also differed in using fabric, permitting copy by others, ingredients and bottling of perfume, meaning of silhouette. This kind of comparative research is expected to provide more understanding of fashion history and to contribute to more rigorous analysis of key success factors of designers in his or her age of fashion.

  • River otter(Lutra lutra) are listed as endangered species and Natural monument in Korea, and this study examined the possibility of extinct of river otter in Hongchon river using with the application of Population Viability Analysis (PVA) technique. In Hongchon river areas population was estimated 9 individuals for the last 1999-2005 years and PVA analysis was done for the next 10 years using the average population of 9. Using the initial population the river otter was estimated 30% of extinct for the next 10 years. This estimation was quite low considering water pollution and construction of highways. Also PVA only used population size lacking in other life history information. Nonetheless river otter population can be in risk of extinction if the current construction of crossovers, cement bank are maintained. Long term information regarding life history needs essential.

  • Cooperative behavior may seem contrary to the notion of natural selection and adaptation, but is widely observed in nature, from the genetic level to the organism. The origin and persistence of cooperative behavior has long been a mystery to scientists studying evolution and ecology. One of the important research topics in the field of evolutionary ecology and behavioral ecology is to find out why cooperation is maintained over time. In this paper we take a historical overview of mathematical models representing cooperative relationships from the perspective of mathematical biology, which studies population dynamics between interacting biological groups, and analyze the mathematical characteristics and meanings of these cooperative models.

  • In the western culture, the definition of infinity and finiteness developed into various features, being combined with classical Hebraism and Hellenism, and after modernism, it has been paralleled with natural sciences within the circle of its tradition, whereas the definition of infinity has been showed in Buddhism, the traditional religion, which has been handed down without scientific consideration, in the eastern culture. This is the most notable characteristics between two hemispheres. In this paper, I will show sameness and differences of these two cultures in terms of defining infinity. Also in terms of examining the definition of infinity and finiteness in the Buddhist principles which has been handed down since 600∼500 B.C. I will show how the definition of Buddhist infinity connect with the mathematical definition of today.

  • In this study a procedure for evaluation of performance point using direct displacement-based design method was developed to enhance the applicability of the method. Parametric study has been performed for the natural period of the structure, yield strength, and the stiffness after the first yield. The proposed method was also applied to a 10-story steel frame. To verify the accuracy of the result, the results from capacity spectrum analysis and time history analysis were compared. The results of the proposed method turned out to match well with the results of capacity spectrum method and the time history analysis.
