Urban Road Extraction from Aerial Photo by Linking Method

  • We have seen rapid changes in road systems and networks in urban areas due to fast urbanization and increased traffic demands. As a result, many researchers have put greater importance on extraction, correction and updating of information about road systems. Also, by using the various data on road systems and its condition, we can manage our road more efficiently and economically. Furthermore, such information can be used as input for digital map and GIS analysis. In this research, we used a high resolution aerial photo of the roads in Seongnam area. First, we applied the top-hat filter to the area of interest so that the road markings could be extracted in an efficient manner. The lane separation lines were selected, considering the shape similarity between the selected lane separation line and reference data. Next, we extracted the roads in the urban area using the aforementioned road marking. Using this technique, we could easily extract roads in urban area in semi-automatic way.

도로종류별 교통사고 추세분석 및 시제열 분석모형 개발 (Road Accident Trends Analysis with Time Series Models for Various Road Types)

  • 우리나라의 도로는 종류별로 관리주체가 서로 다르다. 고속국도는 한국도로공사, 일반국도는 건설교통부, 지방도는 광역자치단체, 시 군도는 기초자치단체에서 건설 관리 및 운영 책임을 맡고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이렇듯 관리주체가 다른 우리나라의 도로에서 발생하고 있는 교통사고발생 추세를 도로종류별로 분석하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 과거로부터 축적된 도로종류별 교통사고건수, 사망자수, 부상자수의 자료를 기반으로 사고위험을 단순건수, 도로연장 당 건수, 그리고 대 km당 건수로 비교하였다. 그 결과 단순 건수에 의한 비교에서는 도시부 도로가 전 부문에서 가장 위험하고 고속국도는 전 부문에서 가장 안전한 것으로 분석되었다. 그러나 1km당 발생건수는 일반국도가 가장 위험하고 지방도가 가장 안전한 것으로 분석되었다. 교통사고 발생률을 가장 객관적으로 비교할 수 있는 지표인 10만 차량 대 km당 비교에서는 일반국도가 가장 위험하고, 고속국도가 상대적으로 안전한 것으로 분석되었다. 한편, 도로종류별 사망자수 추세를 설명하는 시계열 분석모형을 개발한 결과 고속국도, 지방도, 도시부도로의 경우 AR(1)모형이 추세를 잘 설명 할 수 있는 것으로 분석되었고, 일반국도의 경우 ARIMA(2, 3, 0)모형이 추세를 설명할 수 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 이러한 모형은 장래 교통안전계획의 목표치를 수립하거나 평가하는데 근거자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 보인다.

인공강우실험에 의한 임도노면의 지표유출량 및 토양유실량 평가 (Predicting Surface Runoff and Soil Erosion from an Unpaved Forest Road Using Rainfall Simulation)

  • Unpaved forest roads are common accessways in mountain areas being used for forestry purposes. The presence of forest roads produces large volumes of surface runoff and sediment yield due to changes in soil properties and hillslope profile. Rainfall simulation experiments were conducted to estimate the impacts of above-ground vegetation and antecedent soil water condition on hydrology and sediment processes. A total of 9 small plots($1m{\times}0.5m$) were installed to represent different road surface conditions: no-vegetation(3 plots), vegetated surface(3 plots), and cleared vegetation surface(3 plots). Experiments were carried out on dry, wet, and very wet soil moisture conditions for each plot. Above ground parts of vegetation on road surface influenced significantly on surface runoff. Runoff from no-vegetation roads(39.24L) was greater than that from vegetated(25.05L), while cleared-vegetation condition is similar to no-vegetation roads(39.72L). Runoff rate responded in a similar way to runoff volume. Soil erosion was also controlled by land cover, but the magnitude is little than that of surface runoff. Even though slight differences among antecedent soil moisture conditions were found on both runoff and soil erosion, runoff rate and soil losses were increased in very wet condition, followed by wet condition. The experiments suggest that vegetation cover on forest road surface seems most effective way to reduce surface runoff and soil erosion during storm periods.

일반국도 설계시간계수의 적정 확률분포 선정 및 추정 (The Selection of Optimal Probability Distribution and Estimation for Design Hourly Factor in National Highway Roads)

  • 본 연구는 도로의 기능 및 통행특성. 차로수, 연평균일교통량 등을 고려하여 설계시간계수와의 관계를 살펴보고 적정 확률분포형 선정과 K값을 추정하였다 이를 위해 2005년도 상시 교통량 조사지점에서 수집된 교통자료를 이용하여 14개의 확률분포형을 적용하였다. 각 확률분포형은 최우도법을 이용하여 매개변수를 추정하였으며 각 분포형별로 매개변수 적합성 조건을 검토하였다. 적정 확률분포형의 결정은 chi-square검정을 통하여 대상 분포형의 기각유무를 판단하였으며. 그 결과에 대해 우선순위를 정하여 적정 확률분포형을 선정하였다. 그리고 각 유형별 AADT에 따른 적정 K계수를 추정하였다. 그 결과, 지방부 2차로 및 4차로. 도시부, 관광부도로의 적정 확률분포형은 각각 Pearson V, LogLogistic, LogLogistic, Extreme value 분포로 분석되었으며 적정 K계수는 각각 $0.1{\sim}0.2,\;0.09{\sim}0.14,\;0.07{\sim}0.13,\;0.1{\sim}0.2$로 추정되었다.

깎기비탈면 안정성의 통계적 예측기법 (Statistical Estimate Technique of Cut Slope Stability)

  • The collapse of cut slope near national roads in Korea mostly occurs in every summer when typhoon or localized heavy rain comes. Such collapse brings about a loss of many lives and property and recently the damage is on rapidly increasing trend. Therefore, we may reduce the loss of many lives and property in great deals if we can predict and prepare for the collapse of cut slope. However, it is not easy to predict collapse because there are many factors causing collapse in combination and all they have different levels of contribution. Therefore, this study completed prediction formula by using a statistic technique for quantitative analysis on the interaction of those factors so as to predict the stability of slopes. Consequently, it is judged that effective slope management will be possible by selecting dangerous slopes quantitatively among cut slopes near national roads and by preparing for the collapse in advance.

안전 경로 탐색을 위한 실시간 교통 정보의 활용 방안 연구

  • 최근 불안정한 기상상태가 계속되며 집중호우, 태풍, 범람 등에 의한 수해가 늘어가고 있다. 특히 하천범람이나 도로침수 발생 피해가 속출하고 있으며 이로 인해 차량 통행의 제한으로 도심에서 교통이 마비되기도 한다. 본 연구에서는 집중호우로 인한 도로침수 및 도로 상에서 일어나는 사건 사고를 실시간 교통정보를 활용하여 돌발 상황을 우선 감지함으로 운전자와 보행자가 도로 상황에 즉각적으로 대처할 수 있는 방안에 대해 알아보고자한다.

야생동물-차량과의 충돌사고 발생위치분석과 도로주변에서 야생동물의 이동경로분석 (Analysis of wildlife-vehicle collisions and monitoring the movement of wildlife)

  • From 2006 through 2007, the highest need for the most urgent attention in Gangwon-do Wild Animal Rescue Center was wildlifevehicle collisions (WVC). The Korean Ministry of Environment reported 6543 WVC's in 2005 and 5565 cases of WVC's in 2006. In this study, data from the Gangwon-do Wild Animal Rescue Center was utilized to analyze WVC incidents and the movement of wildlife near roadways in Korea. From 2006 through the first half of 2008, the portable GPS device recorded accident location of the injured wildlife. Attempts were made to track and monitor the movements of four raccoon dogs and five Korean water deers near the roads. One raccoon dog and one Korean water deer were successfully tracked and monitored. Their locations were transmitted to cell phones. The amount of WVC's was highest amongst the roads near the forests of Gangwon-do. The devices installed on the nearby roads did not protect the wildlife from WVC's. Results using the CDMA-type GPS collar showed that wildlife often crossed the road even with devices installed to prevent this from crossing roads. This research analyzed the behaviors of different wildlife animals and WVC's. New preventative measures need to be established to avoid roadkill. It is suggested that new streets be built or for an appropriate speed limit be implemented.

Environmental Effects of Traffic Calming Devices on Residential Area using SUMO

  • Recently, the number of traffic accidents on trunk roads tends to decrease due to the performance improvement of passenger vehicles. In the commuter rush hour of morning and evening, vehicles via residential road increases without going along trunk roads. Therefore, there are many traffic accidents of pedestrians (or bicycles) and vehicles on residential roads. In order to safeguard residents against traffic accidents, traffic calming devices (TCD), such as chicane, speed hump, and school zone, etc. have been introduced. Investigating these effects repeatedly is not easy since many times and efforts are required, such as observed at the place actually. In this paper, the effects of TCDs in residential areas, such as noise, speed, and emission of a vehicle, using Simulation of Urban Mobility (SUMO) are examined. As a result, it is found that it is possible to reduce the speed of the vehicle by TCD, and the level of noise at the location behind TCD becomes higher than the level of noise at the location of TCD implemented.

However, unlike the past, there is various typical and atypical data, and some fields make use of big data planning and analytical technique, which is opening a way to capture new opportunities. The present study analyzes an improvement plan for bicycle roads by using the public data of Seoul and proposes its implications.

포장도로 재비산먼지 배출계수 산정을 위한 silt loading의 실시간 측정시스템 개발과 적용 (Development and Application of Real-time Measurement System of Silt Loading for Estimating the Emission Factor of Resuspended Dust from Paved Road)

  • Resuspended dust from paved roads in Seoul and Incheon metropolitan areas is regarded as one of the major $PM_{10}$ sources in these areas, according to the recent emission estimates using the emission factors compiled in AP-42. It is well known that the AP-42 model for estimating $PM_{10}$ emissions from paved roads requires information on silt loadings of particular paved roads. The conventional AP-42 method (vacuum swept method) for road silt sampling, however, is expensive, time consuming, and dangerous. These drawbacks led us to develop a Mobile Dust Monitoring System (MDMS) capable of doing real time measurements of silt loading of paved roads, thereby we could get higher resolution silt loading data both in terms of time and space without too much human efforts and danger. In this study, for the real-time measurement of silt loading of paved roads, the principle used in the TRAKER method of U.S. Desert Research Institute was employed and the entire sampling systems including data acquisition system were designed for theses purpose and mounted on a SUV. The correlation between the silt loading measured by vacuum swept method and the speed corrected ${\Delta}Dust$ was derived for the vehicle-based silt loading measurements, and then the variations of silt loading on paved roads were surveyed using the MDMS in test routes of Seoul and Incheon. From the results of real-time measurements, temporal and spatial variations of silt loading data together with the existence of hot spots were observed for paved roads in Seoul and Incheon. The result of this study will be employed to estimate fugitive dust emissions from paved roads.
