  • This research aims to analyze the ethical requirements and to find the problems for the publication guidelines of oriental medicine journals. A total of 13 domestic journals, related to oriental medicine and registered in 'National Research Foundation of Korea' list, were selected for the analysis of ethical requirements. We inquired the revised year of the publication guideline and the status of ethics committee of selected journals. The ethical requirements of publication guidelines were evaluated by categorizing them into Institutional Review Board(IRB), Helsinki Declaration, Informed Consent, confidentiality and anonymity of subjects, and conflict of interest. In the case of revised year of the publication guidelines, the year of the most recently revised journal was 2011. However, the revised year of publication guidelines were not announced for three journals and a few journals haven't revised the publication guidelines since 2002. In the case of ethics committee status, four journals out of 13 journals maintained the ethics committee. In the result of ethical requirement analysis, nine journals included the information for confidentiality and anonymity of subjects, and four journals included the information for Helsinki Declaration and Informed Consent. However, only one journal included the information for IRB and conflict of interest. Recently, the importance of clinical researches has been increased to prove the effect of oriental medicine scientifically and objectively. The clinical researches should be considered in scientific side and ethical side as well, because they have potential risks to human subjects. In this sense, announcing the ethical requirements in the publication guidelines can be one way to secure the morality of researches. Thus, it is required to prepare correct publication guidelines and ethical requirements in oriental medicine journals.

  • Sunken vessels accidents have harmful impacts on the marine environment because of oils and chemicals in the vessels. The government has managed them and developed risk assessment which can evaluate potential risk quantitatively since 1999. But the grades of present risk assessment has changed greatly depending on quantity of remaining fuel oils, and the list of remaining fuel oils omitted in status report of sunken vessels. Therefore, the aim of the study is to estimate and develop model for quantity of remaining fuel oils and verify the remaining fuel estimation comparison with active vessels. To accomplish the purpose of the study, apply this verified estimation model to current risk assessment and recommend guideline for an accurate sunken vessels risk assessment.

  • Background: Colorectal cancer is a major cause of morbidity and mortality throughout the world. Colorectal cancer screening is an optimal way for reducing of morbidity and mortality and a clinical decision support system (CDSS) plays an important role in predicting success of screening processes. DSS is a computer-based information system that improves the delivery of preventive care services. The aim of this article was to detail engineering of information requirements and work flow design of CDSS for a colorectal cancer screening program. Materials and Methods: In the first stage a screening minimum data set was determined. Developed and developing countries were analyzed for identifying this data set. Then information deficiencies and gaps were determined by check list. The second stage was a qualitative survey with a semi-structured interview as the study tool. A total of 15 users and stakeholders' perspectives about workflow of CDSS were studied. Finally workflow of DSS of control program was designed by standard clinical practice guidelines and perspectives. Results: Screening minimum data set of national colorectal cancer screening program was defined in five sections, including colonoscopy data set, surgery, pathology, genetics and pedigree data set. Deficiencies and information gaps were analyzed. Then we designed a work process standard of screening. Finally workflow of DSS and entry stage were determined. Conclusions: A CDSS facilitates complex decision making for screening and has key roles in designing optimal interactions between colonoscopy, pathology and laboratory departments. Also workflow analysis is useful to identify data reconciliation strategies to address documentation gaps. Following recommendations of CDSS should improve quality of colorectal cancer screening.

  • KISTI(Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information) has developed the $\boxDr$KISTI-ACOMS(KISTI-Article COntribution Management System)$\boxUl$ as part of the national project for automating the process of processing academic information by societies, in order to convert journals published by academic societies in Korea into an electronic from and make them accessible on the Internet. This system was developed in the year 2001 and has since been distributed to societies free of charge. The number of societies requesting the service has risen recently, which prompted us to take more recommendations of the societies that adopt this system into account in expanding and standardizing the area of service being provided by the system. This paper will investigate the functions of KISTI-ACOMS constructed for use in the Korean Society of Environment and Ecology and list the functions and requirements for the next system to enhance the on-line paper management system.

  • To see scientific potential of MIRIS Paschen-${\alpha}$ ($Pa{\alpha}$) Galactic Plane Survey (MIPAPS), we have selected a portion, Galactic longitude from $+96^{\circ}$ to $116^{\circ}$, and inspected $Pa{\alpha}$ detections for 212 sources in WISE H II region catalog. We also list up $35Pa{\alpha}$ large features and $32Pa{\alpha}$ point-like blobs, which have not been cataloged in WISE catalog. For all the sources, we have performed the photometry of $Pa{\alpha}$ emission line, and obtained their $Pa{\alpha}$ intensities and $Pa{\alpha}$ fluxes. For the quantitative comparison, we also make the $H{\alpha}$ mosaic image of the same region by using IPHAS data which have been globally calibrated and released recently. Comparing MIPAPS $Pa{\alpha}$ fluxes with the IPHAS $H{\alpha}$ fluxes enables us to estimate dust extinction and spectral types of ionizing sources. We present the results for some sources.

  • As technology gets developed, medical equipments are also modernized and leading-edge systems, such as PACS become popular. Many scientists noticed importance of medical image processing technology. Technique of region segmentation is the first step of digital medical image processing. Segmentation technique helps doctors to find out abnormal symptoms early, such as tumors, edema, and necrotic tissue, and helps to diagnoses correctly. Segmentation of white matter, gray matter and CSF of a brain image is very crucial part. However, the segmentation is not easy due to ambiguous boundaries and inhomogeneous physical characteristics. The rate of incorrect segmentation is high because of these difficulties. Fuzzy-based segmentation algorithms are robust to even ambiguous boundaries. In this paper a modified Fuzzy-based segmentation algorithm is proposed to handle the noise of MR scanners. A proposed algorithm requires minimal computations of mean and variance of neighbor pixels to adjust a new neighbor list. With the addition of minimal compuation, the modified FCM(mFCM) lowers the rate of incorrect clustering below 30% approximately compared the traditional FCM.

  • Objective : We did a comparative study about characteristics of oriental medical books. As a result, we took notice of classification in the nominal terms by semantic type of UMLS(Unified Medical Language System). By using classified nominal terms, comparative study can be more effectively. So, we selected another oriental medical book and classified nominal terms in it by semantic type of UMLS. By result of classification, we have attempted to study about comparison between oriental medical books and development of medical theories. Method :We have made a comparative study on classification in the nominal terms between "Biwiron(脾胃論)" and "Soayakjeungjikgyeol(小兒藥證直訣)" according to the below the procedure. (1) Making a nominal terms list of "Soayakjeungjikgyeol(小兒藥證直訣)" and grasping contextual meaning of nominal terms of it. (2) Modification and supplementation about semantic type of UMLS for "Soayakjeungjikgyeol(小兒藥證直訣)". Using the modified classification system, we classified nominal terms. After this process, we arranged classified nominal terms by Haansoft Hangul 2007. (3) Comparing classified nominal terms between "Biwiron(脾胃論)" and "Soayakjeungjikgyeol(小兒藥證直訣)". Result : In the "Soayakjeungjikgyeol(小兒藥證直訣)", there are more than 2,519's nominal terms and different categories of semantic type of UMLS classification from "Biwiron(脾胃論)". Through comparison between their classification of nominal terms, we can understand the characteristics of the two and their development of medical theories.

  • The purposes of this study were to establish the scope of population groups to be set and nutrients to be included for Codex Nutrient Reference Values (NRVs). Examination of a variety of documents and reports on the principles of scientific evidence was gone through to choose representative groups from a variety of population groups and kinds of nutrients for setting Codex NRVs. Also, hearings from the groups of NRVs expertise has been formed and was gone through by e-working process. The differences of food and foods being consumed in general and by specific population groups and limited actual space on packages for food labeling were considered. This paper suggest the options on the scope of population groups to be set and nutrients to be included for Codex NRVs on the basis of the above procedures. Also, the advantages and disadvantages of these options are commented when the options are applied for establishment and revision of the Codex NRVs.

  • Objectives : Based on a national sample survey, we present an analysis of the current situation in the use of moxibustion therapeutics by qualified medical practitioners in Korea. Methods : The survey population of 11,737 hospitals is stratified by administrative regions, and 331 of them are randomly selected from the list of hospitals. The same number of Korean medical doctors is interviewed under the computer-assisted telephone interviewing(CATI) system. The bound on the error of estimation is ${\pm}\;5.0%$ point. Results : Of the 331 Korean medical doctors surveyed, 69% have used moxibustion therapy for remedial treatment. About half of those doctors have employed the therapy for their patients over 30%. The average number of acupuncture points per treatment using the therapy mostly ranges 1 between 5. The percent of practitioners, who have the number of average minutes less than 20 in treatment, is 74%. The number of practitioners who primarily use modified moxibustion is 4 times as many as that of those using traditional moxibustion. Conclusions : Considering the survey results, if the laser heater, alternative to conventional moxibustion, which not only gives high thermal effect but also reduces both the users inconvenience and side effects, are developed, it may benefit more patients as well as Korean medical doctors.
