  • In this paper, I tried to take analog signal from LDP, VCR, Camcoder and to convert to digital data. Then I designed and implemented a system to edit the data and to reconvert the edited data to analog signal. For this study, I partiallyy used single image processing algorithms which were developped before my work and suggested algorithms of various transition effects which could be useful for video data editing. In conclusion, I compared the conventional professional video systems with mine and analyzed them.

  • Now that the complete genomes of numerous organisms have been ascertained, key problems in molecular biology include determining the functions of the genes in each organism, the relationships that exist among these genes, and the regulatory mechanisms that control their operation. These problems can be partially addressed by using machine learning methods to induce predictive models from available data. My group is applying and developing machine learning methods for several tasks that involve characterizing gene regulation. In one project, for example, we are using machine learning methods to identify transcriptional control elements such as promoters, terminators and operons. In another project, we are using learning methods to identify and characterize sets of genes that are affected by tumor promoters in mammals. Our approach to these tasks involves learning multiple models for inter-related tasks, and applying learning algorithms to rich and diverse data sources including sequence data, microarray data, and text from the scientific literature.

  • An understanding of performance of database driven network applications is critical in combating slow performance of e-commerce web sites, besides efficient web page design, and high quality and well-maintained web server equipment. This paper describes a method of measuring performance from the user viewpoint, which can help enormously in making realistic assessment of true performance of database driven applications. The performance measurements were taken at user locations by using several specially designed JavaScript functions along with ASP scripts. A performance study is presented in this paper, comparing performance of data access using stored procedures with the traditional way of querying a database. It is generally believed that stored procedures have performance benefits as they are pre-compiled. However, our study shows that the data access approach using stored procedures provides significant benefits(by about 30%) over the traditional approach for querying a commercial MySQL database, only when retrieving a substantial amount of data(at least 10,000 rows of data).

  • We constructed a photometric database system which is optimally designed for microlensing events from KMTNet (Korea Microlensing Telescope Network) observation. We developed a framework software for the convenience of archiving, uploading, searching, and downloading of processed photometric data. From various tests for optimal data archiving engines, we found that the MyISAM storage engine shows the best performance. For the high performance of database system, data types of each field are carefully suggested from various combinations of tests especially to correct round-off errors. The developed framework provides the convenience of access to the database server using query forms via web pages, and displays the light curve of selected target for a quick view.

  • DVB-MHP recommends that NPT(normal play time) be used as the times of stream events. NPT is the local time within an event(TV program). But we found that commercial transport stream (TS) generators and middlewares for DVB-MHP settop boxes are not ready to support the use of NPT by applications. In particular, TS generators do not create NPT reference descriptors needed to reconstruct NPT at the TV receiver. This situation is undesirable because program providers cannot experiment with the idea of synchronized applications. So we have implemented a TS generator that inserts NPT reference descriptors to TS and MyGetNPT API to approximately reconstruct NPT. STC (system time clock) is needed to reconstruct NPT, but Xlets are not allowed to read it. So, we approximate STC by using PCR (program clock reference) and the Java system tune. In this method, the stream generator extrats PCRs from an existing TS and inserts them into null TS packets in the form of MPEG sections, which can be read by Xlets. Because PCRs are displaced into new positions in TS, their values should be adjusted based on the time intervals between the original positions and the new positions. We implemented a synchronized application by using our TS generator and MyGetNPT API, where the task of stream events are to display graphic images. We found that graphic images are displayed where 240 ㎳ from their intended time, where 240ms is a human tolerance for the synchronization skew between graphic image and video.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate validation of the Recovery Assessment Scale(RAS) for Korean Version using Rasch analysis. This study included 60 patients who had chronic schizophrenia and were aged 18 or older. The data were analysed using a Rasch analysis to investigate whether the persons and items fit, the distribution of item difficulty and the appropriateness of the rating scale. 1 out of 60 subjects were found to not fit. 3 out of 24 items were also found to be misfit. The misfitted items was 'I believe that I can meet my current personal goals','Even when I don't care about myself, other people do. ','Coping with my mental illness is no longer the main focus of my life.'. Of the appropriate items, the most difficult was 'I can handle what happens in my life' and the easiest was 'Something good will eventually happen'. The RAS rating scale was shown to be appropriate for patients who had chronic schizophrenia. The item separation reliability was .70, and the person separation reliability was .94. Further studies are needed to investigate validity and criterion cut-off score for many patients with chronic mental illess.

  • With the boom of platform businesses, digital transformation has become the most important topic for businesses. Digital transformation has now become the most urgent strategy for survival, from a strategy considered as an option to choose in the past. Many companies are desperately seeking the ways to be digitally transformed. Even though there have been many studies on digital transformation, most of them are on strategic and conceptual model levels based on simple case analyses. In this study, we analyze the benefits of data integration and network effects from it, based on platform business model at the core of digital transformation. The change based on platform can be categorized into the internal one for the integration of data and better decision making, and the external one for the expansion of the businesses and better prediction of consumer behaviors through the integration of external data sets by the platform business model based enterprises. While the progress for digital transformation is not mature enough yet, financial industry is one of the most promising industries for the change and realization of the aim of it with its relatively much more advanced IT infrastructure. Many companies are making various efforts for the integration of external data, and if the good results can be accomplished, financial industry will contribute to the advancement of digital transformation in other industries as well. For "My Data" project by Korean government, we suggest the data structure and transaction of data (of Korea) should be advanced and established more quickly.

  • A Smart Grid is a system that can efficiently use energy by exchanging real-time information in both directions between a consumer and a power supplier using ICT technology on an existing power network. DR(Demand response) is an arrangement in which electricity users can sell the electricity they save to the electricity market when the price of electricity is high or the power system is crisis. In this study, we developed a power meter data transmission device and power IT system that measure the demand information in real-time using a smart meter and transmit it to a cloud server. The power meter data transmission device developed in this study uses alight sensor connected to a Raspberry Pi 3 to measure the number of blinking lamps on the KEPCO meter per unit of power, in order to provide reliable data without any measurement errors with respect to the KEPCO power data. The power measurement data transmission device uses the standard communication protocol, OpenADR 2.0b. The measured data is transmitted to the power IT system, which consists of the VEN, VTN, and calculation program, via the LTE WiFi communication network and stored in its MySQL DB. The developed power measurement data transmission device issues a power supply instruction and performs a peak reduction DR when a power system crisis occurs. The developed power meter data transmission device has the advantage of allowing the user to adjust it every 1 minute, where as the existing smart metering time is fixed at once every 15 minutes.
