  • Delay and jitter are critical factors in the real-time video services over ATM network. Mostly, delay and jitter problem are generated in input buffer when video are multiplexed. In this paper, we analyze delay and jitter of input buffer, and consider efficient control and flexible bandwidth allocation of video traffic. Also, we analyze decision of buffer size related maximum allowable delay.

  • This paper describes a development of the integrated controller system for car electrical signal and sensor input/output control with CAN communication protocol. In order to improve the system reliability and effectiveness for the conventional controller using the wiring harness, a detailed integrated control system is introduced and discussed. The CAN communication protocol is a robust control method with serial bus system for the control of distributed module in the multiplexed network. Therefore, this has high reliability and flexibility in the overall control system implementation. This paper proposes an integrated system with high reliability and stability for control of various car signal, and evaluates the effectiveness of the system using the actual implementation. For these purposes, after a brief of the main features of the CAN will be addressed, this paper presents the result of development of the integrated hardware system and overall control program.

  • Increase of hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP)-based video popularity causes that broadband and Internet service providers' links transmit mainly multimedia content. Network planning, traffic engineering or congestion control requires understanding of the statistical properties of network traffic; therefore, it is desirable to investigate the characteristic of traffic traces generated, among others, by systems which employ adaptive bit-rate streaming. In our work, we investigate traffic originating from 120 client-server pairs, situated in an emulated laboratory environment, and multiplexed onto a single network link. We show that the structure of the traffic is distinct from the structure generated by first and second generation of HTTP video systems, and furthermore, not similar to the structure of general Internet traffic. The obtained traffic exhibits negative correlations, anti-persistence, and its distribution function is skewed to the right. Furthermore, we show that the traffic generated by clients employing the same or similar play-out strategies is positively correlated and synchronised (clustered), whereas traffic originated from different play-out strategies shows negative or no correlations.

  • In an IP network, various types of traffics are statistically multiplexed to utilize efficiently the network resources. The DiffServ-aware-MPLS supports a wide variety of communication services with different QoS requirements. The DiffServ-aware-MPLS based on QoS architecture had become one of the most promising ways to guarantee QoS Multi-service IP network. But how to manage IP network with QoS guarantee is still an open issue. In this paper, we propose DiffServ-aware-MPLS buffer management technique using the specified policing, queuing, and scheduling

  • We propose and experimentally demonstrate an all-optical radio frequency (RF) spectrum broadening system based on time compression. By utilizing the procedure of dispersion compensation values, the frequency domain is broadened by compressing the linear chirp optical pulse which has been multiplexed by the radio frequency. A detailed mathematical description elucidates that the time compression is a very preferred scheme for spectrum broadening. We also report experimental results to prove this method, magnification factor at 2.7, 8 and 11 have been tested with different dispersion values of fiber, the experimental results agree well with the theoretical results. The proposed system is flexible and the magnification factor is determined by the dispersion values, the proposed scheme is a linear system. In addition, the influence of key parameters, for instance optical bandwidth and the sideband suppression ratio (SSR), are discussed. Magnification factor 11 of the proposed system is demonstrated.

  • Over ATM network, variable bit rate(or VBR) traffic is allowed. Control of VBR traffic is allowed. Control of VBR traffic becomes difficult if it is bursty. VBR video traffic becomes so much bursty during intra frame period that much cell loss would occur when satistical multiplexed in ATM swich. To aviod cellloss, extra communication resources should be allocated, which reduces the capability of an ATM channel. In this paper, we propose two methods which enable a channel limited in resources to serve more VBR MPEG video bit streams. Firstly, we could redue the bitrate fluction of a statiscally multiplexed bundle of VBR video bit streams by reducing the number of intra frames overlapped at the same frame period. This method can be used in ATM switch which controls multiple video sources. Secondary, in two layer enoding, statistical multiplexing gains can be icreased by letting peak bit rate durations of both layers not be overlapped. This results in more smooth traffic. The performance of proposed methods are demonstrated by a proposed calculation method of statistical multiplexing gains(or SMGs.) The proposed SMG is based on both delay and cell loss QoS requirements at the same time.

  • With the increasing complexity of cabling at sensory level in process control and manufacturing automation, field buses were introduced to replace the traditional point to point links from each sensor or acruator to its controlling equipments by a single link on which all information is transmitted seriall and multiplexed in time. In this papr, we introduce the BITBUS network as a field bus. For the service discipline of the BITBUS network, two service strategies are proposed to obtain the performance of the network. They are the equal priority cyclic service strategy and the non-equal priority cyclic service strategy. The former assigns equal priority to each node for polling and the latter assumes non-equal priority. The BITBUS network was modeled as a cyclic queueing model and it is analyzed by two methods: the Kuehn's and the Boxma's. Computer simulation was also done for the cyclic queueing model and simulation results were compared with those. Under mathematically non-analyzable environment, only the computer simulation was done. From the simulation result, in order to meet the response time requirement of 5 msec imposed by International Electrotechnical Commission when each node has the average traffic of 5000 messages/sec in manufacturing automation the number of slave nodes should be smaller than 10 at the transmission rate of 2.5 Mbps.

  • This paper presents the convergence time, SER(Symbol Error Rate), MSE(Mean Square Error), hardware complexity and step-size(${\mu}$) about various LMS(Least Mean Square) algorithms in FS-DFE(Fractionally Spaced-Decision Feedback Equalize) for Cable Modem based on MCNS(Multimedia Cable Network System) DOCSIS(Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) v1.0/v1.1 standards. We designed and simulated using ${SPW}^{TM}$ and synthesized using STD90 library through ${SYNOPSYS}^{TM}$. And also, we adopted the time-multiplexed multiplication and tap shared architecture in order to achieve the low hardware complexity. Simulation results show that DS-LMS algorithms[1][3] is the optimum solution about performace and hardware size. in high order QAM applications. Finally, we achieved area saving about 58% using DS-LMS algorithm compare with conventional equalizer architecture.

  • We compare the performance of a wavelength remodulated wavelength-division-multiplexed passive optical network implemented using Manchester-coded or inverse-return-to-zero (IRZ)-coded signal downstream and non-return-to-zero remodulated signal upstream. We investigate the effects of varying differences between downstream and upstream bit rates on the two coding schemes. When the bit rate ratio of upstream to downstream is less than or equal to 50%, the performance of Manchester coding is better than that of IRZ coding. However, when the bit rate ratio of upstream to downstream is higher than 50%, Manchester code requires appropriate time delay between upstream and downstream signals, whereas IRZ code needs reduced extinction ratio in the downstream signal.

  • Recently in telecommunication, BISDN ( Broadband Integrated Service Digital Network ) has received considerable attention for its capability of providing a common interface for future communication needs including voice, data and video. Since all information in BISDN are statistically multiplexed and are transported in high speed by means of discrete units of 53-octet ATM ( asynchronous Transfer Mode ) cells, appropriate traffic control needs. For traffic shaping of voice, the output cell discarding scheme has been proposed. We analyze the scheme with a MMPP/$D_1$, $D_2$/1/B queueing system to obtain performance measures such as loss probability and waiting time distribution.
