  • The micro optical parts such as ferrules are required to be manufactured within very small tolerances, as the slight deviation of the tolerance would give very large amount of loss in communication efficiency. For efficient optical communication, outer diameter, fiber diameter, fiber separation and eccentricity are significant parameters to be inspected., Thus we developed an automatic inspection system to evaluate shape parameters of the optical fiber connectors(ferrule) upto submicron accuracy using machine vision. new optical probe of multi fields of views has been developed and the image processing and data analysis algorithms have been complemented in real time basis. The developed system is successfully used in the practical ferrule manufacturing industry, and about 0.1$\mu\textrm{m}$ accuracy can be obtained with very fast inspection time.

  • To allow multiple viewers to see the correct perspective and to provide a singh1 viewer with motion parallax cues during head movement, more than two views arc needed. Since it is prohibitive to acquire, process, and transmit a continuum of views, it. would preferable to acquire only a minimal set of views and to synthesize intermediate images. This paper presents how to synthesize the intermediate images using irregular quadtree decomposition and compares the proposed methods with full-search block matching. The image at the middle viewpoint between both viewpoints is synthesized and yields a 32.8 ㏈ peak-signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) which is 2.8 ㏈ high and has a running time 30% of that for conventional full-search block matching.

  • Engineering change (EC) objects are the data structure and related operations that can support applications for EC procedures or processes. Their functionalities include controlling management data, specifying related product structure, and archiving a history of product structure changes for EC management. In this paper we introduce a systematic approach to support the propagation of changes between different product structure views using the history of structure changes in EC objects. The change propagations supported by EC objects enable designers to maintain the consistency of multiple product structure views for engineering, manufacturing or even customer support applications. This paper also includes EC examples and experimental implementations for the proposed EC objects.

  • As web services have become an important architecture solution, web service composition applications are developed actively. A mobile application supporting multiple services requires a complex user interface so that the interface needs to consist of more than one view and to provide a way to navigate between views. In this paper, we presented a formal way to analyze a set of views for a given service specification, and a relation model between views and methods. We then provided an algorithm to generate codes for service method calls and navigation between views. Therefore, with an optional user configuration input, we could automatically generated XForms codes from the web service specifications. Finally, we developed a proof of concept implementation of XForms browser to show that the generated codes works well as an interface for web service compositions.

  • While previous studies have recognized and have researched the resistance of students' scientific conception to change and the difficulty of the change of a conception's status, few have investigated the idea of conceptual ecology as a context of conceptual change learning, including the role that affective and motivational aspects might play when students are exposed to conceptual change learning, The present study was conducted to describe in detail high school students' views about learning and knowing science by summarizing of students' conceptual ecologies. The study was interpretive, using multiple data sources to achieve a triangulation of data. Three students from a public high school for boys serve as cases representative of students' views about learning and knowing science. Students' enthusiasm to pursue science was closely connected to their views about learning and knowing science. Students' views about learning and knowing science are influenced by their views regarding science and science class including the nature of knowledge, learning, and their epistemological commitments, They influence students' self-efficacy and motivation on learning science.

  • Smart electronics are now widely used in everyday life, but the size of the screen of such devices is still too small to fully enjoy multimedia content. Therefore, if the display is comprised of multiple views produced by multiple smart devices, then the screen output size can increase. However, a time delay between the devices can generate a discordance in the video and sound. This paper compares two synchronization techniques that can be used to minimize such a time delay, and proposes a synchronization technique in which, the timing of the screen for each device is calculated by synchronizing the playback time, using the timing information transferred from the control device, and periodically adjusting the playback timing forward or backward. When multimedia content is reproduced using multiple views from multiple smart devices, we can minimize the time delay, regardless of the network quality or the differences in the devices used for this technique.

  • A data warehouse is an integrated and summarized collection of data that can efficiently support decision making process. The summarized data at the data warehouse is often stored in materialized views. These materialized views need to be updated when source data change. Since the propagation of updates to the views may impose a significant overhead, it is very important to update the warehouse views efficiently. Though various strategies have been proposed to maintain views in the past, they typically require too much accesses to the data sources when the changes of multiple data sources have to be reflected in the view. In this paper we propose an efficient view update strategy that uses relatively small number of accesses to the data sources. We also show the performance advantage of our method over other existing methods through experiments using TPC-D data and queries.

  • In determining the performance of OLAP database applications, the structure and the effective access methods to the underlying disk system is a significant factor. In recent years, hard disks are designed with multiple physical zones where seek times and data transfer rates vary across the zones. However, there is little consideration of multi-zone disks in previous works. Instead, they assumed a traditional disk model that comes with many simplifying assumptions such as an average seek-time and a single data transfer rate. In this paper, we propose a technique storing a set of materialized views into the multi-zoned disks in OLAP environment dealing with large sets of data. We first present the disk zoning algorithm of materialized views according to the access probabilities of each views. Also, we address the problem of storing views in the dynamic environment where data are updated continuously. Finally, through experiments, we prove the performance improvement of the proposed algorithm against the conventional methods.

  • Physical activity (PA) professionals and participants recognize enhanced quality of life (QoL) as a benefit of and motivator for PA. However, QoL measures are often problematic and rarely consider the participants' perspective. This paper focuses on recent findings from a larger project on the role of QoL in PA and health promotion. More specifically, we focus on the views of participants and potential participants to better understand the relationship of PA and QoL. In earlier stages of the project we began with a conceptual model of QoL and developed a survey. We now focus on participants' views and ask two questions: 1) what is QoL? and 2) how does PA relate to QoL? We first asked those questions of a large sample of university students and community participants as open-ended survey items, and then asked focus groups of community participants. Overall, participants' responses reflected the multidimensional, integrative QoL model, but the responses and patterns provided information that may not be picked up with typical survey measures. Findings suggest that PA contributes to multiple aspects of QoL, that social and emotional benefits are primary motivators and outcomes for participants, and that the meaning of QoL and PA benefits is subjective and contextualized, varying across individuals and settings. Programs that directly target and highlight the multiple dimensions and integrative QoL, while considering the individual participants and contexts, may enhance both PA motivation and participants' health and QoL.
