  • Virtualization is a promising approach to consolidating multiple online services onto a smaller number of computing resources. A virtualized server environment allows computing resources to be shared among multiple performance isolated platforms called virtual machines. Through server virtualization software, applications servers are encapsulated into VMs, and deployed with APIs on top generalized pools of CPU and memory resources. Networking and security have been moved to a software abstraction layer that transformed computing, network virtualization. And it paves the way for enterprise to rapidly deploy networking and security for any application by creating the virtual network. Stochastic reward net (SRN) is an extension of stochastic Petri nets which provides compact modeling facilities for system analysis. In this paper, we develop SRN model of network virtualization based on virtual switch. Measures of interest such as switching delay and throughput are considered. These measures are expressed in terms of the expected values of reward rate functions for SRNs. Numerical results are obtained according to the virtual switch capacity and number of active VMs.

  • Reinforcement Learning (RL) is a machine learning algorithm that repeat the closed-loop process that agents perform actions specified by the policy, the action is evaluated with a reward function, and the policy gets updated accordingly. The key benefit of RL is the ability to optimze the policy with action evaluation. Hence, it can effectively be applied to developing advanced intelligent systems and autonomous systems. Conventional RL incoporates a single policy, a reward function, and relatively simple policy update, and hence its utilization was limited. In this paper, we propose an extended RL model that considers multiple instances of RL elements. We define a formal model of the key elements and their computing model of the extended RL. Then, we propose design methods for applying to system development. As a case stud of applying the proposed formal model and the design methods, we present the design and implementation of an advanced car navigator system that guides multiple cars to reaching their destinations efficiently.

  • The Markov Chain approach is used to develop an economic adjustment model of a process whose quality can be affected by a single special cause, resulting in changes of the process mean by incorrect adjustment of the process when it is operating according to its capability. The $\bar{X}$ control chart is thus used to signal the special cause. It is demonstrated that the expressions for the expected cycle time and the expected cycle cost are easier to obtain by the proposed approach than by adopting that in Collani, Saniga and Weigang (1994). Furthermore, this approach would be easily extended to derive the expected cycle cost and the expected cycle time for the case of multiple special causes or multiple control charts. A numerical example illustrates the proposed method and its application.
