Viral diseases have been a major limiting factor threating sustainable potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) production in Pakistan. Surveys were conducted to serologically quantify the incidence of RNA viruses infecting potato; Potato virus X (PVX), Potato virus Y (PVY), Potato virus S (PVS), Potato virus A (PVA), Potato virus M (PVM) and Potato leaf roll virus (PLRV) in two major potato cultivars (Desiree and Cardinal). The results suggest the prevalence of multiple viruses in all surveyed areas with PVY, PVS and PVX dominantly widespread with infection levels of up to 50% in some regions. Co-infections were detected with the highest incidence (15.5%) for PVX and PVS. Additionally the data showed a positive correlation between co-infecting viruses with significant increase in absorbance value (virus titre) for at least one of the virus in an infected plant and suggested a synergistic interaction. To test this hypothesis, glasshouse grown potato plants were challenged with multiple viruses and analyzed for systemic infections and symptomology studies. The results obtained conclude that multiple viral infections dramatically increase disease epidemics as compared to single infection and an effective resistance strategy in targeting multiple RNA viruses is required to save potato crop.
A novel asymmetric multiple-image encryption method using an octonion Fresnel transform (OFST) and a two-dimensional Sine Logistic modulation map (2D-SLMM) is presented. First, a new multiple-image information processing tool termed the octonion Fresneltransform is proposed, and then an efficient method to calculate the OFST of an octonion matrix is developed. Subsequently this tool is applied to process multiple plaintext images, which are represented by octonion algebra, holistically in a vector manner. The complex amplitude, formed from the components of the OFST-transformed original images and modulated by a random phase mask (RPM), is used to derive the ciphertext image by employing an amplitude- and phase-truncation approach in the Fresnel domain. To avoid sending whole RPMs to the receiver side for decryption, a random phase mask generation method based on SLMM, in which only the initial parameters of the chaotic function are needed to generate the RPMs, is designed. To enhance security, the ciphertext and two decryption keys produced in the encryption procedure are permuted by the proposed SLMM-based scrambling method. Numerical simulations have been carried out to demonstrate the proposed scheme's validity, high security, and high resistance to various attacks.
To improve the operation error caused by the thermal fluctuation of electrons, we propose a novel single-electron pass-transistor logic circuit employing a multiple-tunnel junction (MTJ) scheme and modulate a parameters of an MTJ single-electron tunneling device (SETD) such as the number of tunnel junctions, tunnel resistance, and voltage gain. The operation of a 3-MTJ inverter circuit is simulated at 15 K with parameters $C_g=C_T=C_{clk}=1\;aF,\;R_T=5\;M{\Omega},\;V_{clk}=40\;mV$, and $V_{in}=20\;mV$. Using the SETD/MOSFET hybrid circuit, the charge state output of the proposed MTJ-SETD logic is successfully translated to the voltage state logic.

Fungi of the Metarhizium genus are a very versatile model for understanding pathogenicity in insects and their symbiotic relationship with plants. To establish a co-transformation system for the transformation of multiple M. robertsii genes using Agrobacterium tumefaciens, we evaluated whether the antibiotic nourseothricin has the same marker selection efficiency as phosphinothricin using separate vectors. Subsequently, in the two vectors containing the nourseothricin and phosphinothricin resistance cassettes were inserted eGFP and mCherry expression cassettes, respectively. These new vectors were then introduced independently into A. tumefaciens and used to transform M. robertsii either in independent events or in one single co-transformation event using an equimolar mixture of A. tumefaciens cultures. The number of transformants obtained by co-transformation was similar to that obtained by the individual transformation events. This method provides an additional strategy for the simultaneous insertion of multiple genes into M. robertsii.
This paper presents a new approach in the design of multiple power output electronic ballasts for compact fluorescent lamps which power output range of 11W, 15W, 20W by using equivalent resistance and RLC equivalent circuit concept and frequency control. A multiple power output electronic ballast which adopts half-bridge inverter topology is set up to compare the results of PSpice simulation with experimental ones. Starting characteristics of lamp voltage, lamp current and light output are better than the existing electronic ballasts, and therefore is verified the validity of the proposed method.

Microorganisms causing bovine mastitis, swine diarrhea and swine pneumonia were isolated from farms in Chungbuk and Kyunggi Province and the isolates were identified using microbial identification system(MIS). The most common isolates from bovine mastitis were Staphylococcus sp.,Streptococcus sp., and Corynebacterium sp., those from swine diarrhea were Escherichia coli, Salmonella sp., and Clostridium perfringens, those from swine pneumonia were Bordetella bronchiseptica and Pasteurella multocida. Examination of 16 antibiotics against these pathogens revealed that the incidence of antibiotic-resistant microoganisms were very high and that many of these isolates had multiple resistance to various commercially available antibiotics such as penicillin, ampicillin, erythromycin, streptomycin, norfloxacin, and tetracycline. These results suggest that the use of antibiotics in a farm should be controlled in order to decrease the number of antibiotic-resistant microorganisms were very high and that many of these isolates had multiple resistance to various commercially available antibiotics such as penicillin, ampicillin, erythromycin, streptomycin, norfloxacin, and tetracycline. Antimicrobial susceptibility and multiple drug resistance patterns have been carried out on total of 364 isolates of Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis isolated from foodborne patients in Seoul from 2001 to 2005. Overall, the highest percentage of resistance was found to the following antimicrobial agents: streptomycin (46.7%), ampicillin (37.3%), ticarcillin (36.7%), tetracycline (36.0%), nalidixic acid (20.7%), chloramphenicol (13.3%), amoxicillin/clavulanic acid (6.7%) and Ampicillin/sulbactam (4.0%). Seventy five percentage of isolates were found to be resistant to one or more of the antimicrobes tested. The resistant rates to nalidixic acid and chloramphenicol in S. Enteritidis tested were annually increased but the resistant rate to tetracycline was decreased and the resistant rates to streptomycin, ampcilin and ticarcillin were remained steadily. The most frequent patterns of multiresistant isolates were only nalidixic acid resistant (18.0%) and streptomycin-tetracycline (18.0%), streptomycin-ampicillin-ticarcillin (10%), and ampicillin-ticarcillin (5.5%). Overall the resistant rates of 1 drug was 19.3%,2 drugs 24.7%, 3 drugs 6.7% and 4 or more drugs 24.0%. The resistant rates of 1 drug and 2 drugs in 2005 were increased dramatically.

Staphylococcus pseudintermedius is an opportunistic pathogen in dogs and is recognized as a zoonotic pathogen causing public health concern. Although canine-associated S. pseudintermedius has mainly been recognized for its antimicrobial resistance and ability to cause skin infections in dogs, information on antimicrobial resistance profiles and enterotoxigenicity of S. pseudintermedius in livestock is very limited. In this study, we investigated the prevalence of 18 different staphylococcal enterotoxin (SE) genes and toxic shock syndrome toxin gene (tst-1) in S. pseudintermedius strains isolated from dogs, pigs, and beef cattle. Moreover, antimicrobial resistance profiles of the strains were determined along with the presence of mecA and SCCmec types. Except for one bovine isolate, all S. pseudintermedius isolates from dogs and pigs were resistant to multiple drugs (≥ 4 different drugs). Four out of six canine isolates were methicillin resistant and carried SCCmec type V. In addition, 11 different SE genes (seb, sec, see, seg, sei, sej, sel, seo, sep, seq, and seu) and tst-1 were identified in S. pseudintermedius isolates from dogs, pigs, and beef cattle. Most S. pseudintermedius isolates (83%) harbored multiple SE genes, and sel (42%) and sep (42%) were most frequently detected in the isolates. Our results suggested that S. pseudintermedius isolates from livestock and companion animals may serve as a reservoir for SE genes and antimicrobial resistance.
