Efficient routing algorithm is required to transmit data from source to destination by multi-hop transmission in wireless sensor networks. In the multi-hop transmission, multipath routing can be one of the solutions to cope with the traffic congestion and unstable link condition. In this paper, we propose partial multipath routing which does not establish a secondary full routing path but a partial multipath to complement some poor links, and it can enable stable data transmission and reduce the number of nodes in routing path and the required total power compared with conventional multipath routing.

This paper shows that the OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex) system is robust to multipath than CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) system and it has a strong possibility to be utilized as a supplementing wireless location system for the forthcoming portable internet network. The OFDM system based on IEEE 802.16e is a wireless TDD (Time Division Duplex) OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) system providing portable internet services in 2.3 GHz frequency band and is scheduled in service in Korea starting in 2006. In this paper, multipath error is calculated using a two-ray model and compared with that of a CDMA system which is following IS-95. The OFDM system shows a maximum multipath error of 3 m while a CDMA system shows a maximum multipath error of 61 m. For this simulation, an early-late technique is used. This technique is usually used to match synchronization of signal in DLL(Delay Lock Loop).
This paper investigates schemes to improve TCP performance in multipath forwarding networks. In multipath routing, packets to the same destination are sent to multiple next-hops in either packet-level or flow-level forwarding mode. Effective bandwidth is increased since we can utilize unused capacity of multiple paths to the destination. In packet-level multipath forwarding networks, TCP performance may not be enhanced due to frequent out-of-order segment arrivals at the receiver because of different delays among paths. To overcome this problem, we propose simple TCP modifications. At the sender, the fast retransmission threshold is adjusted taking the number of paths into consideration. At the receiver, the delayed acknowledgment scheme is modified such that an acknowledgment for an out-of-order segment arrival is delayed in the same way for the in-order one. The number of unnecessary retransmissions and congestion window reductions is diminished, which is verified by extensive simulations. In flow-level multipath forwarding networks, hashing is used at routers to select outgoing link of a packet. Here, we show by simulations that TCP performance is increased in proportion to the number of paths regardless of delay differences.

In this paper, the multipath effect on underwater acoustic channel bandwidth and BFSK and BPSK bit error dependancy on channel bandwidth are analyzed. The multipath is modeled as a discrete multipath and a continuous multipath and the channel bandwidth is expressed as a function of multipath delay spread constant. Bit error characteristics on the channel bandwidth and the criteria of the multipath delay spread constant are found through the numerical simulation. The transmission bit rate of less than 100bps in the water tank which has a channel bandwidth of 100Hz, is a consistent result with the numerical simulation.

IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) is an open standardized architecture for delivering multimedia service over IP network in a route-agnostic manner. With the increasing popularity of conversational class service, the delivery of a traffic flow with a certain bandwidth demand over a single network path is either not possible or not cost-effective. Multipath transmission is considered to be a promising solution to provide high-quality delivery service. This paper proposes a software defined service overlay network (SDSON) based multipath transmission framework for IMS, which is complementary to existing network architecture. The framework transforms original two-party session negotiation into three-party session negotiation that supports participants to negotiate multipath transmission capacity and path information by signaling message. Based on existing IETF standards, SIP and SDP are scalable to support these functions. Finally, the proposed framework is fully implemented on open source platform and examined by experiments. Experimental results show that multipath-enabled IMS is an effective way to improve the delivery performance of conversational class service.

For a wireless sensor network in general, efficient routing decision is important because wireless connections are not stable, sensitive to external interference, and topology changes dynamically. RPL standard of IETF is not flexible to various environmental changes and causes packet loss and delay due to topological imbalance. Sending packets through multipath can partially remedy this problem. The multipath routing, however, can introduce significant delay overhead by allocating unnecessary timeslots. This paper proposes an RPL using multipath adaptively according to network conditions. We show by simulations that the proposed algorithm is more efficient than the basic RPL and the multipath RPL.
This paper presents a method to overcome the problem of increasing elevation estimation error when estimating elevation in a multipath situation with radar. A multipath situation means that radar reception signals reflected from the same target come from multiple paths. In non-multipath, the monopulse method is accurate. For the opposite case, the least square error method is accurate. In multipath situation and when the elevation angle is very low, a singular occurs where the least square error estimate diverges. This singular was identified based on the propagation factor, and monopulse and least square error estimation methods were selectively used. As a result, we succeeded in increasing the accuracy of elevation estimation. MATLAB simulations were performed to verify the method proposed in this paper.

Multipath routing is one of challenging issues for improving the reliability of end-to-end data delivery in wireless sensor networks. Recently, a disjointedness and management of path have been studying to enhance the robustness and efficiency of the multipath routing. However, previous multipath routing protocols exploit the disjointed multipath construction method that is not to consider the wireless communication environment. In addition, if a path failures is occurred due to the node or link failures in the irregular network environment, they maintain the multipath through the simple method that to construct a new extra path. Even some of them have no a method. In order to cope with the insufficiency of path management, a hole detouring scheme, to bypass the failures area and construct the new paths, was proposed. However, it also has the problem that requires a heavy cost and a delivery suspension to the some or all paths in the hole detouring process due to the centralized and inflexible path management. Due to these limitations and problems, the previous protocols may lead to the degradation of data delivery reliability and the long delay of emergency data delivery. Thus, we propose a flexible disjoint multipath routing protocol which constructs the radio disjoint multipath by considering irregular and constrained wireless sensor networks. It also exploits a localized management based on the path priority in order to efficiently maintain the flexible disjoint multipath. We perform the simulation to evaluate the performance of the proposed method.

In the case of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) equipped with a GNSS sensor, a boundary line where the vehicle can actually exist can be calculated using a navigation error model, and safe navigation (e.g., precise landing and collision prevention) can be supported based on this boundary line. Therefore, for the safe operation of UAV, a model for the position error of UAV needs to be established in advance. In this study, the multipath error of a GNSS sensor installed at UAV was modeled through a flight test, and this was analyzed and compared with the error model of an existing manned aircraft. The flight test was conducted based on a scenario in which UAV performs hovering at an altitude of 40 m, and it was found that the multipath error value was well bound by the error model of an existing manned aircraft. This result indicates that the error model of an existing manned aircraft can be used in operation environments similar to the scenario for the flight test. Also, in this study, a scenario for the operation of multiple UAVs was considered, and the correlation between the multipath errors of the UAVs was analyzed. The result of the analysis showed that the correlation between the multipath errors of the UAVs was not large, indicating that the multipath errors of the UAVs cannot be canceled out.

Multipath routing technique is recognized as one of the effective approaches to improve the reliability of data forwarding. However, the traditional multipath routing focuses only on how many paths are needed to ensure a desired reliability. For this purpose, the protocols construct additional paths and thus cause significant energy consumption. These problems have motivated the study for the energy-efficient and reliable data forwarding. Thus, this paper proposes an energy-efficient cooperative multipath routing protocol with a small number of paths based on an inter path communication. The inter path communication (namely, cooperative multipath routing) in the proposed protocol helps to reinforce the multipath reliability and reduce the use of network resources. In addition, the proposed protocol provides a reliable end-to-end transmission time by using a transmission recovery method based on the local decision for the path or transmission failures.
