  • Nowadays, mobile users have a huge amount of multimedia contents and can use these contents anytime, anywhere by advance in computer and network techniques. However, users spend too much time for searching and managing these contents in web and local file system. Expecially, small and uncomfortable user interfaces of mobile devices make it difficult to search and manage multimedia contents. Therefore, an intelligent multimedia contents management technique is needed to use these contents more efficiently. In this paper, we propose a Personalized Mobile Multimedia Contents Provider (PMMCP) System which provides personalized multimedia contents based on users' psychological patterns and situations.

  • Digital watermarking techniques have been used as one of the means for copyright protection and authentication of multimedia data. Conventional Chinese Remainder Theorem(CRT)-based spatial domain watermarking techniques do not perform well under JPEG compression. However, it is seen that the CRT-based watermarking technique in Discrete Cosine Transform(DCT) domain performs well for JPEG compression. In this paper, an improved CRT-based image watermarking method in the DCT domain is proposed. The proposed method provides better robustness which decreases changes of absolute difference of residues against rounding errors due to DCT conversion and various attacks. Experimental results show that the proposed method has a good robustness against various attacks compared with the conventional CRT-based watermarking in DCT domain.

  • Multimedia data services have been widely developed with the recent progression of the Internet technology. Multimedia services, especially, must guarantee Quality of Service with restricted environment resources. The abrupt increase of transmission quanta, so called burst, and the number of client that access multimedia server, with limited network bandwidth will demage the quality of service and the utilization of network resource. Smoothing techniques can reduce the burst of a variable bit rate stream by transmitting data at a series of fixed rates. In this paper, we present a new smoothing algorithm using MPEG's characteristics in transmitting stored video data with VBR. The smoothing algorithm we present will be verified with assorted existing techniques in diverse environments.

Abstract Nowadays, many multimedia applications for the Internet are introduced as the network gets faster and many techniques manipulating multimedia data are developed. These multimedia applications, however, do not spread widely and are not fast as expected at their introduction time due to the poor quality of image and voice delivered at receivers. The poor quality is mainly attributed to that the current Internet can not carry data as fast and reliably as the real-time applications require. To improve the quality without modifying the internal structure of the current Internet, many researches are conducted. One of them is an end-to-end flow control of multicast traffic adapting the sending rate to the dynamically varying Internet state. This paper proposes two flow-control techniques which can improve the performance of the two conventional techniques; IVS and RLM. IVS statically adjusts the sending rate based on the network state periodically estimated. Differently from IVS in which a sender produces one single data stream, in RLM a sender transmits several data streams generated by the layered coding scheme and each receiver selects some data streams based on its own network state. The more data streams a receiver receives, the better quality of image or voice the receiver can produce. The two techniques, however, can degrade the performance since IVS increases its sending rate statically and RLM accepts one more data stream at arbitrary time regardless of the network state respectively. We introduce two new techniques called TCP-like IVS and Adaptive RLM; TCP-like IVS can determine the sending rate dynamically and Adaptive RLM can select the right time to add one more data stream. Our simulation experiments show that two techniques can achieve better utilization and less packet loss by 10-20% over various network topologies.

  • An image segmentation result depends on pre-processing steps such as contrast enhancement, edge detection, and smooth filtering etc. Especially medical images are low contrast and contain some noises. Therefore, the contrast enhancement and noise removal techniques are required in the pre-processing. In this study, we present an extension by a novel histogram equalization in which both local and global contrast is enhanced using neighborhood metrics. When checking neighborhood information, filters can simultaneously improve image quality. Most important is that original image information can be used for both global brightness preserving and local contrast enhancement, and image quality improvement filtering. Our experiments confirmed that the proposed method is more effective than other similar techniques reported previously.

  • In this paper, we propose a new method of eye, face, and lip makeup techniques on the target face image from several makeup examples without losing detail features such as eyelids, eyebrows, hair. After detection of the feature layer for the skin, we applied our makeup techniques to the target face by using a blending technique. We used a cartoon rendering using bilateral filter. In order to smoothly makeup the target face, we created two Gaussian Weight maps for natural skin makeup effects. Our method did not need to perform complex operations, so the makeup results are so natural. Our experimental results show good performances in various makeups.
