  • Many critical applications require accurate real-time human action recognition. However, there are many hurdles associated with capturing and pre-processing image data, calculating features, and classification because they consume significant resources for both storage and computation. To circumvent these hurdles, this paper presents a recognition machine learning (ML) based system model which uses reduced data structure features by projecting real 3D skeleton modality on virtual 2D space. The MMU VAAC dataset is used to test the proposed ML model. The results show a high accuracy rate of 97.88% which is only slightly lower than the accuracy when using the original 3D modality-based features but with a 75% reduction ratio from using RGB modality. These results motivate implementing the proposed recognition model on an embedded system platform in the future.

  • As the Fourth Industrial Revolution era began, a variety of devices are running on the cloud. These various devices continue to generate various types of data or large amounts of multimedia data. To handle this situation, a large amount of storage is required, and big data technology is required to process stored data and obtain accurate information. NAS (Network Attached Storage) or SAN (Storage Area Network) technology is typically used to build high-speed, high-capacity storage in a network-based environment. In this paper, we propose a method to construct a mass storage device using Network-DAS which is an extension technology of DAS (Direct Attached Storage). Benchmark experiments were performed to verify the scalability of the storage system with 76 HDD. Experimental results show that the proposed high performance mass storage system is scalable and reliable.

  • With the continuous development of cloud storage, plenty of redundant data exists in cloud storage, especially multimedia data such as images and videos. Data deduplication is a data reduction technology that significantly reduces storage requirements and increases bandwidth efficiency. To ensure data security, users typically encrypt data before uploading it. However, there is a contradiction between data encryption and deduplication. Existing deduplication methods for regular files cannot be applied to image deduplication because images need to be detected based on visual content. In this paper, we propose a secure image deduplication scheme based on hashing and clustering, which combines a novel perceptual hash algorithm based on Local Binary Pattern. In this scheme, the hash value of the image is used as the fingerprint to perform deduplication, and the image is transmitted in an encrypted form. Images are clustered to reduce the time complexity of deduplication. The proposed scheme can ensure the security of images and improve deduplication accuracy. The comparison with other image deduplication schemes demonstrates that our scheme has somewhat better performance.

  • Today distributed data storage service are being widely used. However lack of proper means of security makes the user data vulnerable. In this work, we propose a Randomized Block Size (RBS) model for secure data storage in distributed environments. The model work with multifold block sizes encrypted with the Chinese Remainder Theorem-based RSA (C-RSA) technique for end-to-end security of multimedia data. The proposed RBS model has a key generation phase (KGP) for constructing asymmetric keys, and a rand generation phase (RGP) for applying optimal asymmetric encryption padding (OAEP) to the original message. The experimental results obtained with text and image files show that the post encryption file size is not much affected, and data is efficiently encrypted while storing at the distributed storage server (DSS). The parameters such as ciphertext size, encryption time, and throughput have been considered for performance evaluation, whereas statistical analysis like similarity measurement, correlation coefficient, histogram, and entropy analysis uses to check image pixels deviation. The number of pixels change rate (NPCR) and unified averaged changed intensity (UACI) were used to check the strength of the proposed encryption technique. The proposed model is robust with high resilience against eavesdropping, insider attack, and chosen-plaintext attack.

  • In recent crime scene, there is the captured crime scene video at least one. So video files recorded on storage media often provide important evidence. Criminals often attempt to destroy storage saved crime scene video. For this reason recovery of a damaged or deleted video file is important to resolve criminal cases in aspects of digital forensic. In the recent, there is a study to recover video file based on video frames, but it is very poor time efficiency when the connecting video frames. This paper proposed advanced frame-based recovery technique of a damaged video files using time information. We suggest a new connecting algorithm to connect video frames using recorded time information in front of video frame. We also evaluate performance in aspects of time and experiment result shows that proposed method improves performance.

  • Video surveillance data, which is used for preemptive or post-emptive action against any event or accident, is required for monitoring the location, but is reducing the capacity of the image data by removing intervals for cost reduction and system persistence. Such a video surveillance system is fixed in a certain position and monitors the area only within a limited angle, or monitors only the fixed area without changing the angle. At this time, the video surveillance system that is monitored only within a limited angle shows that the variation object such as the floating population shows different status in the image, and the background of the image maintains a generally constant appearance. The static objects in the image do not need to be stored in all the images, unlike the dynamic objects that must be continuously shot, and occupy a storage space other than the necessary ones. In this paper, we propose a mechanism to analyze the image, store only the small size image for the fixed background, and store it as image data only for variable objects.

  • Recently, the diverse needs of the drivers for in-vehicle infotainment systems are increasing rapidly. As a result, the infotainment systems are equipped with more convenient and human-friendly high-tech features. In this paper, we designed and implemented in-vehicle multimedia infotainment system based on embedded system that was applied various multimedia to in-vehicles. The proposed system can support independent display on each screen for the multi-channel multimedia source based on one processor(1 CPU). Therefore, our system can be reduced costs compared to other systems. This system not only displays the video and audio data in storage devices but also displays CAM, T-DMB, and DVB-T multimedia contents which are supplied in real-time services. Also, our system could multi-screen displays multimedia data in smart phone using Wi-Fi. We expect that in-vehicle infotainment systems like AVN(Audio video navigation) and RSE(Rear Seat Entertainment) could be used in various applications and reduced costs.

  • Few studies have been systematically pursued on a multimedia data mining in despite of the overwhelming amounts of multimedia data by the development of computer capacity, storage technology and Internet. Based on the preliminary image processing and content-based image retrieval technology, this paper presents the methods for discovering association rules from recurrent items with spatial relationships in huge data repositories. Furthermore, multimedia mining algorithm is proposed to find implicit association rules among objects of which content-based descriptors such as color, texture, shape and etc. are recurrent and of which descriptors have spatial relationships. The algorithm with recurrent items in images shows high efficiency to find set of frequent items as compared to the Apriori algorithm. The multimedia association-rules algorithm is specially effective when the collection of images is homogeneous and it can be applied to many multimedia-related application fields.

  • As the number of large size multimedia files increases and the importance of individual's digital data grows, storage devices have been advanced to store more data into smaller spaces. In such circumstances, a physical damage in a storage device can destroy large amount of important data. Therefore, it is needed to verify the robustness of various physical faults in storage device before certain systems are used. We developed SOAR(Storage Reliability Analyzer), Storage Reliability Analyzer, to detect physical faults in diverse kinds of HDD hardware components and to recover the systems from those faults. This is a useful tool to verify robustness and reliability of a disk. SOAR uses three unique methods of creating physical damages on a disk and two unique techniques to apply the same feature on file systems. In this paper, we have performed comprehensive tests to verify the robustness and reliability of storage device with SOAR, and from the verification result we could confirm SOAR is a very efficient tool.
