Standardization of MPEG Multimedia Middleware

  • Recently, MPEG (Moving Picture Experts Group) has started a new standardization activity called MPEG Multimedia Middleware (M3W). This activity covers the standardization for a middleware rrith a set of APIs. The standard middleware, called M3W, will support independent multimedia applications for hardware and software such as operating systems so that the portability and interoperability of multimedia applications are greatly improved. In this article, we will introduce the recent works on M3W standardization including the rationale that motivates the activity with the advantages of having the standardized middleware for multimedia application, component technologies being considered for the M3W, and the current status of the standardization.

Visualization System for Natural Disaster Data (자연재난 데이터 실감 가시화 시스템)

  • We introduces a system that enables fast and effective visualization of natural disaster data such as typhoons, tsunamis, floods, and flooding to help make informed decisions in disaster situations. Data containing disaster information consists of a few hundred megabytes to many tens and hundreds of gigabytes, which can not be handled by a PC. This system was implemented in the form of a client-server based service to generate and output results from high-performance servers. The server in a built-in, high-performance cluster handles client requests and sends the result of visualization to the client. Clients can receive the results in any form of images, videos, or 3D graphic model by specifying a desired time frame, effectively viewing the results with a user-friendly GUI.

  • 기존의 MuX 시스템은 분산환경에서 멀티미디어 데이터를 전송하기 위해서 PUSH 방식의 데이터 전송기법만을 제공한다. PUSH 방식의 데이터 전송기법은 자료 발생매체 중심의 데이터 전송기법으로 멀티미디어 데이터가 발생할 때 바로 자료 사용 매체로 전송하는 기법이다. PUSH 방식 데이터 전송 기법은 네트웍 대역폭이 크고 시스템 자원이 풍부한 경우 간단히 연출 QoS를 만족시킬 수 있다. 그러나 네트웍의 대역폭이 좁은 시스템에서는 PUSH 방식 데이터 전송기법으로 연출 QoS를 만족시키는데 한계가 있다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 PULL 방식 데이터 전송기법을 제안하였다. PULL 방식 데이터 전송기법은 자료 사용 매체 중심의 데이터 전송 기법으로 자료 사용 매체의 요구시점에 요구한 만큼의 데이터를 발생시켜 그 매체로 전송하는 방법이다.

Blockchain based Application to Electric Vehicle in IoT environment

  • Recently, research is being conducted on the rapid service provision and reliability of the instance-based rather than the existing IP-based structure. Research is mainly conducted through Block cloud, a platform that combines service-centric networking (SCN) and blockchain. In addition, the Internet of Things network has been proposed as a fog computing environment in the structure of the existing cloud computing. Fog computing is an environment suitable for real-time information processing. In this paper, we propose a new Internet network structure based on fog computing that requires real-time for rapid processing of IoT services. The proposed system applies IoTA, the third-generation blockchain based on DAG, to the block cloud. In addition, we want to propose a basic model of the object block chain and check the application services of electric vehicles.

  • In multimedia database system, it is very important issue how to query multimedia data and present the result of query. Also, in order to reuse the query result in other applications, multimedia database system must be considered to provide the query result which is more generalized form. In this paper, I propose a presentation model for presenting query result in multimedia database system and MMSQL based on the developed model for processing multimedia database query. This paper includes the design and implementation of MMSQL query processor. MMSQL query processor provides the presentation of query result which is SMIL (Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language) document. Therefore, MMSQL query result in this paper can be use to variant multimedia applications.

  • In this paper, we present an algorithm for adjusting the position of a user-specified object considering image aesthetics. Specifically, the user-specified object is positioned according to the rule of thirds by inserting or deleting unimportant seam lines from the image. To find such seam lines, a novel weight map is designed using the spatial and color distances from the object. We also design and analyze two approaches to seam carving and insertion. Experimental results show that the proposed method can be used as an effective semi-automatic image recomposition scheme.

Near-field Noise-emission Modeling for Monitoring Multimedia Operations in Mobile Devices

  • In this paper, an equivalent circuit model for near-field noise emission is proposed to implement a multimedia operation-monitoring system for mobile devices. The proposed model includes a magnetic field probe that captures noise emissions from multimedia components, and a transfer function for near-field noise coupling from a transmission line source to a magnetic field probe. The proposed model was empirically verified with transfer function measurements of near-field noise emissions from 10 kHz to 500 MHz. With the proposed model, a magnetic field probe was optimally designed for noise measurement on a camera module and an audio codec in a mobile device. It was demonstrated that the probe successfully captured the near-field noise emissions, depending on the operating conditions of the multimedia components, with enhanced sensitivity from a conventional reference probe.

  • This study focuses on the security issues of a handheld technology in auto vaccination scenario. Handheld or palm-based computing technology, commonly known as personal digital assistant (PDAs)are having tremendous impact in many personal, educational and business settings, the potential is particularly compelling for healthcare, specifically in the clinical settings. By exploring the development of the technology and its application, as well as the issue of its security would provide a better understanding of this technology.

  • 모바일 디바이스는 제한된 프로세서 및 저장 공간, 배터리 수명의 문제로 인해 새로운 대안으로 모바일 엣지 컴퓨팅이 연구되고 있다. 그러나 모바일 디바이스는 제한된 자원을 활용하기 때문에 전력 공급에 제약이 따른다. 모바일 엣지 컴퓨팅의 자원으로 활용 되려면 전력 소비량에 대한 관리가 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 모바일 엣지 컴퓨팅 기반 모바일 디바이스의 전력 소비량 감소를 위한 작업 할당 알고리즘을 제안한다.

  • Information superhighway and improvement of computing power result in increase of the requirements for distributed multimedia applications. But, developer of applications needs much time and efforts because of the difficulties of development, enhancement and maintenance of distributed applications. To solve this problem, CORBA is used widely. But, the definitions of CORBA services are required for the brief developments of distributed multimedia applications. Especially, collaboration service is required because multiple users use distributed multimedia service. Collaboration service manages user and group information of applications and makes the interoperability between of multi users. In this paper, we designed collaboration service for CORBA based distributed multimedia applications. Collaboration service is able to maintain group information and to present the ability for collaborative works between of multi users. Application developers can develop the applications easily because the ability of collaborative works is offered by collaboration service.
